“It was awful!” I sobbed, as he rubbed my back. “She bit me.” I wasn't sure whether I was scared because of the dream, or from what had happened before, or both.

“I know, I know.” he soothed. “Your alright though.” He ran his hands through my hair and I pulled gently from his embrace and gave him a kiss. He always knew how to make me feel better.

Wiping the last stray tears from my eyes I looked around the room for the first time. It was dark but I could tell that I wasn't it a ratty old bed like my dream. The one I was in was soft and clean. I couldn't see much in the dim light but I could tell there was a dresser with a few objects on top. There was a television in the corner and I could just make out the outline of an open closet.

I knew where I was.

“Landon, why did you bring me here? What if your parents come home?” I asked frantic.

“They don't come home until Sunday.” He reassured me.

“What day is is today?” I wondered aloud.

“Tuesday.” He stated simply.

Good, so I had only been asleep for somewhere around a day.

Just then the memory hit me again, and I relived the frightful scene in the cave when Tiassale bit me. It seemed so real, I could feel her cool lips on my neck, and the piercing pain as her fangs seemed into me. I couldn't breath as I slowly faded back into reality, gasping for air.

“Kayri!” Landon called softly, leaning over me. I was laying down on the bed, looking up at him with fear filled eyes left over from the memory. Slowly, my throat loosened, allowing me to breath again.

Without realizing, I had lifted my hands to feel the two small puncture wounds on my neck, now scabbed over creating two bumps. They reminded me of Landon's bite marks. The bite marks he had gotten before he turned into a vampire.

I shot up. “Landon! She bit me!” I nearly yelled, my eyes wide.

“I know.” He said, looking slightly worried.

“Will I turn into a vampire?” I was torn. Part of me wanted to be a vampire so I could spend eternity with Landon, but I also didn't want to leave my family. I loved them. Tears involuntarily poured out of my face.

Slowly he brought a hand up to gently stroke my face, wiping away some of the tears. “I don't know.” He replied in sorrowful remorse.

“My family. They're probably worried about me.” I sobbed, suddenly missing them terribly. I hadn't seen then since Sunday. It was only two days ago and yet it felt like an eternity. I missed Lizzie's naive teenage banter, and the twins cunning remarks. I missed my parents too, and for the first time realized how much it hurt not to ave them around like they used to when I was a kid, before work took over their lives. They were probably frantic right now, wondering where I had gone. The last time they had seen me I had come home, a mess after a long day of searching for Landon, going straight to bed and not appearing in the morning. I could picture them crying hysterically to the police to find me. “They've probably got the whole town looking for me.” I laughed at the thought between sobs.

“Shh.” Landon consoled, wrapping his strong arms around me for another embrace. “Would you like me to take you home?”

I took a few deep breaths trying to calm the sobs. What would I do once I got home? What would I tell them? There was no way I could tell them the truth – they'd probably think I was going crazy and put me in a mental home.

But I couldn't stay away from them forever, and what if I turned into a vampire tonight? Then I'd have to leave. Did I want to give them hope with the possibility that I could crush it by disappearing again?

That would hurt them even worse, I deducted, it always hurts worse when hope gets shattered. I couldn't put them through that. So I decided to wait it out; I'd go back if I didn't change.

“No,” I muttered, shaking my head, my hand floating up to feel the bite marks again.

“You sure?” He held me in front of him, looking me straight in the eyes. I forgot how to speak again, his eyes were so intense. Like mist, they seemed to sparkle. There seemed to be a shadow behind them though, but I couldn't tell of what.

“Oh, yeah. Yeah I'm sure.” I murmured, suddenly aware of the long silence. I could feel the heat rising to my cheeks in embarrassment. I smiled, trying to hide it.

“Okay,” He said tenderly before planting a kiss on my lips, sending a surge of passion through my body. But before I could react, the doorbell rang.
