An instant, a moment was all it took for my life to be turned upside down. Everything I had known before was now challenged: Landon's and my love, the existence of vampires, my mind swooned at the thought of anything else. It was almost too much to take.

Certainly too much to think about; my head overflowed in tears on the steering wheel. I hadn't moved since I had gotten in the car; I knew I could drive like this. I was so confused, so scared, so terribly hurt.

How could Landon turn me away like that? If he loved me he wouldn't, or did he love me too much to do that to me like that chick said? Yes, that had to be it. My heart fluttered knowing he still loved me.

I loved him too, and just because he was a vampire now didn't mean he could turn me away like that!

My cries were replaced by anger.

How dare that vampire chick put silly ideas into my boyfriends head!

I had to go back to him and make it right; I had to make him see that I love him no matter what he is and as long as he's alive he's mine!

I wiped away the stray tears and got out of the car, slamming the door, and walked deliberately back into the old abandoned building.

“Landon?” I called, not seeing him.

“Kayri?” He replied, his voice coming from the shadows like before. “I thought I told you to leave.” I could tell by his voice that he had been crying.

“You did.” I smiled, “But I'm not going anywhere.”

He got up out of the shadows, drying his tears with his arm. Even though I had seen him earlier, his appearance still surprised me a little. I took in the wings and dark aura again.

“Why?” He asked softly, his gray eyes sparkled in hope.

“Because I love you.” I walked closer to him until I was nearly touching him. “I don't care if your a vampire; we'll find somehow to make it work.”

He put his hands on my arms gently and looked intently in my eyes, making sure I listened carefully. “I love you too Kayri, but now I also thirst for you.”

“Are you thirsty now?” I asked, tilting my head slightly to the side.

“No, but you still smell delicious.” He smiled.

I lifted my arms and draped them over his shoulders. “Can you resist?” I asked, still locked in his gaze.

“I don't know.” He replied playfully, then leaned down and kissed me.

Once again I found myself shocked at the amount of passion could be contained in a single simple kiss.

“So will you stay with me?” I questioned, hopeful.

He closed his eyes and turned his head slightly away. I took his gesture as a no; I fought to keep back the tears.

“I need you Landon.” I pleaded, a few tears broke away from my barrier and ran down my face. He noticed he agony in my voice and turned back.

“But you deserve a better life than the one I can give you now.” He stated, “And what if the thirst overcomes me like it did when I first turned, I couldn't live with myself if I...” killed you... He couldn't finish the sentence.

“Did you thirst for the other vampire?” I wondered.

He gave me a questioning look, “No, why?” He asked, then he figured out what I was getting at. He took a step back. “No Kayri!” He frowned at me.

“Why not? then we could be together and there'd be no problems!” I tried to convince him, edging forward to meet him again.

“I can't do that!” He declared, “I don't even know if biting would work, and what if I couldn't stop?” Sorrow spread across his face at the thought.

“But it's perfect!” I argued.

“Perfect? It wouldn't be perfect!” There was an edge to his voice. “There's nothing perfect about being a vampire, Kayri.”

“Yes there is – I'd be with you, and you wouldn't have to worry about killing me, AND we could be together forever! Perfect.”

He glared at me. “I don't want you to be a monster like me.”

“Landon, please.” I begged.

“What about your family?” He struck. “You'd never get to see them again.”

He was right- what about them? Yeah they weren't perfect, and a little annoying, but whose family isn't? I still love them, could I leave them? They'd all miss me, and I knew I'd miss them as well, horribly. They'd probably think I died. I felt my tears draw lines down my face.

He softened, bringing his hands up to my face to wipe away the tears. “I'm sorry, Kayri.”

I looked at him, blinking a few last tears out of my eyes and gave him a kiss.

“It's late though.” He said soothingly. “Don't you have school tomorrow?” School, I had totally forgot about that in all the excitement; I was going to be so tired. “You should probably get home, get some rest. You look tired.”

I was. “Will you be here tomorrow?”

“Yes.”

“Promise?”

“Promise.” Then he bent down to give me another intense kiss before leading me to the door. He led me to my car and opened the drivers seat door for me.

I gave him one last kiss before I got in. He shut the door, and I turned on the car. I looked out the window to get one last look at him, but he had already gone inside. I sighed and pulled away.

My thoughts rotated around Landon, vampires, and my family.

Then a sudden jolt pulled me out of my thoughts and I realized I wasn't paying much attention to the road. I had hit something; I could my heart pounding in my chest. I stood frozen as a dark shadow grew in from of my car. I could see the silhouette of it's wings- a vampire.
