We stepped out of the castle and hurried on our way, the city of Perdition growing smaller the farther we went into the barren land. The scenery was the same as always, sad and depressing.
“We are Paladin. Much obliged to meet you.” Liame spoke as the whole of the mansion disappeared behind the terrain we passed.
“Thanks, you too. I’m really glad you came when you did, I don’t think I could’ve defeated them all without your help.” I replied.
“Haha yeah… You would have been soulless food.” Raexi laughed.
“Probably” I agreed, laughing along out of relief that I wasn’t Soulless food.
“How did you get yourself into that racket anyway?” Aleia wondered, tilting her head to the side a bit.
“My friend Zain got kidnapped while we were on our way to save the world. But then I was all alone, and decided to keep going. That’s when I ran into the Soulless’ village and got sucked in. Ugh it was terrible.” I explained, once again being overwhelmed with sadness for Zain. Oh Zain, I miss you…
“Zain got kidnapped?!” Zelai proclaimed in concern, her eyebrows shooting up.
“Do you guys know him?” I questioned.
"Yeah, we helped take care of him when he was a baby," Kieda elucidated. "He was such a trouble maker," She laughed. "But cute."
“But you guys can't be that much older than he is!” I inquired.
Liame responded, “Oh we are much older than we appear. You see, when you become a Paladin at age 18 they give you a special potion to stop the aging process. We're all actually 287 years old, and still rookies at this job.”
“But anyway dear, that isn't important. What's important is completing this task set before you.” Zelai announced.
“We'll take you as far as the edges of Lord Desolate's Realm, and no farther.” Raexi proclaimed.
“Then you’re on your own Hun, sorry.” Zelai apologized. “We have other people who need our help.”
On my own, the thought seemed so depressing after finally having company again, especially since I had no idea what I was doing. Even so, I didn't argue. They were kind enough to go with me that far, and maybe on the way they can help me devise a plan.
I hoped, “Do you think you guys could help me figure out how to defeat Lord Desolate?”
“Defeat Lord Desolate?” Kieda asked, wide eyed in surprise. Then she shook her head, “Nobody really knows how to do that, though many have tried.”
“However, we could tell you what DOESN'T work, will that help?” Aleia questioned.
“Anything will help, thanks.” At least it’s something.
“First of all, no physical weapon works: swords, guns, bombs, spears, flails, etcetera- all ineffective.” Aleia eliminated those possibilities. Well I don’t have any weapons anyway, I thought.
“Poison doesn't work either.” Raexi added.
“Nor does magic.” Kieda built up the list.
“Words are useless.” Zelai joined in.
“Tasers don't affect him the least.” Liame concluded.
“Honestly, I don't think there is a way to kill him. He's immortal in my opinion.” Raexi stated.
“Even immortals can be killed, Raexi.” Liame argued.
Zelai and Aleia rolled their eyes; it was evident that Raexi and Liame always get into these “I’m right” wars.
“How do you know?” Raexi reverted, she stopped walking and got in Liame’s face, but Liame didn’t budge.
We all stopped and watched.
“Oh seriously, just because they never die doesn’t mean they can’t be killed.” Liame regressed. “Plus, even if they figure out a way to deflect every single weapon, it’s impossible to guard one’s heart. The Intelligence has been trying to figure that out since they figured out that that’s our weakest part of our body.”
“How is it our weakest part?” I chimed in, curious.
“Feeling, you’d be surprised at the power of emotions.” Zelai replied, as we started walking again.
“How would you kill someone through their emotions?” I wondered.
“By breaking their heart of course.” Kieda replied.
I advanced, “And how exactly do you do that?”
“Well by getting them to love you then telling them it was all a lie (of course), but that isn’t just coochie coochie type love but any kind of relationship.”  Aleia included.
“Horrible risk for dating.” Raexi voiced with a frown. “Fall in love and risk death. That’s why you don’t see many couple’s around here. It sucks.” She ‘hmph’ed and crossed her arms.
“Hey, look!” Kieda pointed at a large rock in the distance. “It’s Ataraxis! We should drop in for a visit!”
At this I was utterly confused; I didn’t see any cities, and I didn’t think it was in or behind the rock.
“Drop in! Haha!” Aleia burst out laughing.
Liame smiled at Kieda’s little pun.
“A rest would be nice,” Zelai stated, “Do you remember the password?” She asked to no one in particular.
A password, so it’s a secret city! But where is it? I continued looking around.
            “I do.” Liame announced.
“Of course you do.” Raexi muttered, still upset.
Liame ignored her and walked up to the 2 ft tall rock, and with a series of taps and stomps the rock lifted itself up. The flat bottom of the rock started fuzzing like the television when you’re not on a channel and then a stern looking woman with an empty face appeared.
“Password.” She demanded. I was intimidated.
            “I am reposed.” Liame responded.
With that the ground below the rock opened up to reveal a whole in which Liame started climbing down, the other’s following suit. I entered last down the ladder into a tunnel.
The tunnel was skinny and brightly lit. I could hear lots of people chatting and laughing.
“This is Ataraxis, the underground city of The Resistance and The Opposed.”
