I quickly fell into a monotonous pattern. School, home, school, home. All the while loving every moment of Maths and Geography. This went on for a few weeks before I had something else to look forward to for once. The Harris twins were having a joint birthday party on Saturday night. This was a big thing for the small town, pretty much the whole of senior school was going.

A few days beforehand in Chemistry, I was sitting next to Phoebe and Dennis. Mr. Francis, the ancient teacher who took every senior science class was droning on at the front about our upcoming practical, giving us time to talk about the upcoming weekend.

"Got your eyes on anyone for this weekend Xen?" Phoebe asked innocently. To be honest, I'd actually thought about it. I hadn't hooked up since I'd gotten to this town and the only girl I truly had my eyes on was way out of my league. Not to mention she was my teacher and it was kind of illegal.

"Do you?" I retaliated, flashing her a coy smile.

"She'd have a list ready," teased Dennis, obviously wanting some sort of attention. "That way she's bound to get someone by the end of the night."

"Oh please! If I was that desperate I'd go straight for you Dennis"

"Ouch, burn!" I laughed. Putting my arm around Phoebe’s waist as Dennis looked away, back up to the front of the room.

"Don't" she muttered, wriggling herself free. But she smiled, giving herself away before turning her attention back to the front of the room.

Despite the smile, I still felt like she was serious. I wondered if she really did have her eye on someone. Someone other than me perhaps. I wasn't worried, there were bound to be a ton of girls there.

The days leading up to the party dragged. It was amazing how one simple party could have this effect on half a school. Only in a town this small I guess. It was all anyone talked about and people were making no secrets in their desire to get smashed off their face and whore around. In the preceding gossip I'd already found out that Phoebe actually liked Mike, one of my close friends from my Maths and Phys Ed class. Bianca still had her eyes on me, Josh was hoping to get Susannah and one of her friends in to bed and Dennis was going for the drunkest girl he could find.

None of this bothered me though. I was really looking forward to the party as well. Back home I'd go out every weekend or every other weekend at least. But there was no such luxury here. The only outside school socializing I'd done so far was have Isabelle over for an assignment and some movies. Isabelle was a girl in a couple of my classes. Not quite in the 'popular' group with everyone else, she was quiet, reserved, but very nice. I actually considered her my best friend here so far. Which was weird, I'd never had friends that were girls. But Isabelle was an exception and she didn't seem to want anything more out of it than my friendship and help in Geography.

Finally, it was Saturday afternoon. I'd made plans with Mike and Dennis to meet at my place, have a few quick drinks, and then get my brother to drive us over. We sat around for a bit at my place, having a couple shots before we left. My older brother, Derek was amused at the thought of a party in this town.

"Where the hell is it?" he asked, as we got in his car.

"Umm, you know the Harris place?" Dennis replied. Only in a town this big were houses noted by the family that lived in them. "No? Well it's kind of near the grocery store, one street back, near the train tracks."

"Whatever, it can't be too hard to find. Just tell me when we get there."

It wasn't hard to find. From two streets away we could hear it, and from one street away we could see it. People everywhere; it seemed that everyone from school was there. Not wanting to get too close, Derek dropped us off a few houses away and we walked up to the house. I spotted Phoebe, Susannah and Bianca straight away.

"Happy Birthday B! Where's Jake?" I asked, looking around. It seemed that every kid I'd ever seen in this town was here.

"Thanks Xen! Umm... he was off with Lucille last I saw." she said, not doing a good job of keeping the disapproval out of her voice. Lucille was two years older than us, yet still hung around a lot of people from school and was known for being exceptionally easy.

"Ah, ok. Well have fun! I'm going to go stash my drinks somewhere." I hugged her, smiled at Phoebe and Susannah and went for the house. I'd already lost Mike and Dennis. But inside I found Jake.

"Hey man! Happy Birthday! I heard you'd gone of with loose-y Lucille?" I joked, pulling him in for a one armed hug.

"Har har." he said, "But no, I just helped her over to the garden so she can throw her guts up. I got bigger fish to fry tonight" he winked and I followed him out into the yard. This sentiment was underlined as we stepped outside and looked over the yard, there was just so many possibilities. Tonight was going to be a good night.
