A Taste Of Life Under Heaven Ch5- Date: June 2nd (Saturday)
|
On their way to the park, AJ's cell phone rang:
"Hello?... Really?... One?... Sunday night?... alright... bye... probly--- well maybe not...secret... No. I am not a sneaky whore... good bye mom," AJ slammed her phone shut and started cursing under her breath.
"What's that about?" Ryan asked with a confused look.
"Nothing. Well, my mom 's just being a bitch again. She's accusing me for dumb stuff...again."
"A sneaky whore?" Ryan asked again quoting her phone conversation.
"Yep," she answered with a nod.
"Not trying to sound rude, but do you care to explain?" Ryan suggested as they both sat down on a bench.
"We have a while so why not... see, my mom went out to a bar earlier today and she can't drive home. So she's staying at a friends. She called to say she won't be home until tomorrow night, she also said I could have one friend stay if I wanted but one friend only. My mom suggested Spencer or Ivy. I said no and who I was inviting was a surprise. Finally she said 'Angelica. I didn't raise no sneaky whore.' And well, yeah."
"Angelica?" Again, Ryan was confused.
"Oh yeah. That's my actual first name. Parents have issues with nicknames."
"Ah, so... who's your surprise invitee?"
"Your full of questions aren't you? But that's what I was getting to. Do you want to stay?"
"Are you serious?! Yes! You would save my life!" Ryan exclaimed as he hugged AJ.
"Awesome! Now... wait... can you explain why I would save your life?" Aj asked as she looked at Ryan, still in a hug.
"If you insist," Ryan started. He let go of the hug but left one arm around AJ, "Well... see, me and my dad aren't the best two people to put in a room together. It won't turn out to pretty."
"Ah. I see. Sounds like me and my mom."
"Ew. Then I'm guessing your happy she's gone tonight?" Ryan asked as he looked at her.
"Oh god! Hell yes," AJ laughed a little then set her head on Ryan's shoulder, "Hey, you want to go back to my house now?"
"And ruin this moment? Not really."
"Good idea."
After about 15 minutes of Ryan and AJ just sitting there, Ryan broke the silence:
"Ya know what?"
"Hmn?" Aj answered, lifting her head up.
"I think going back to your house is a good idea."
"Yeah. I'm cold... let's go," she said as she stood up.
"Really? Here," Ryan slipped his jacket over AJ's shoulder and put his arm around her for a small hug, "Better?"
"Much. C`mon lets go."
"Yeah."
As they started to walk back, they heard soft music. AJ and Ryan glanced at each other with a curious look. They looked down the street and saw a boy sitting on a curb with a trumpet.
"C`mon," Ryan said as he pulled AJ by the hand.
"Hi. what's your name?" AJ asked quietly.
"Oh... ummm... I'm Brandon. And that's Anna," the boy said as he set down his trumpet down.
"What are you doing out here now? It's almost dark," Ryan asked as he looked at the two.
"We're orphans and we're trying to raise money for the other kids at the orphanage," Brandon answered.
"Aw. OK, here," Ryan pulled out his wallet and pulled out a bill, "Here take this. Try to get out of the streets before it gates to dark."
"Fifty?! Wow! Thanks!" Anna said as she looked over Brandon's shoulder at the money.
"Oh right. I'm Ryan and this is AJ," Ryan said.
"Hi," Brandon and Anna said in unison.
"So, what song were you just playing?" Ryan asked as he nodded towards the trumpet.
"Yeah Brandon! You never told me!" Anna said as she jumped up and down.
"Fine, I learned it when I was in school. It's called 'Stone Creek'." Brandon picked up his trumpet and started to play it again.
"Wow. That's really nice," AJ said as she listened to Brandon with wide eyes.
"Ha. I'm impressed. All I can play is the famous guitar," Ryan said with a laugh.
"Wow! Really? You never told me that," AJ said complained as she looked over at Ryan.
"Oh yeah. Hey AJ, guess what? I play guitar!"
"Ha ha. Very funny. Well--- Brandon, Anna, it was nice meeting you," Aj said as she shook their hands.
"Yes. And thank you for the money Ryan!" Anna said.
"No prob. You needed it more than me. So, yeah... bye guys. Good luck with the trumpet Brandon."
"Thanks," Brandon said
"Bye," Anna and Brandon said in unison.
"Bye guys."
Once Ryan and AJ got to the end of the street Aj said, " Here we are, C`mon. Hey look! My mom didn't lie! She's not home!"
When Aj got to the house, she turned the front door knob. It wouldn't turn, "Ugh it's locked. Come with me to the back," Aj tried the back door. No luck, "Locked still. Oh well, fun time!" AJ said as she stepped back. She raised her leg and struck the knob with her heel. They heard a loud pop,
"Tada!" she said as she turned the doorknob, opened the door, and walked in.
"I'm impressed," Ryan said in shock, "how'd you figure that out?"
"I'm just really good at rigging things."
"Ah. So... what are we going to do?"
"I was thinking we could...
