Wings of Gold {part one}

She remembered the exact night it happened. That one night when that strange purple light fell from the sky and landed in her back yard in the woods.

“Look father! It’s a falling star!” Aerie yelled, looking out of her bedroom window.

“Hurry and make a wish.” her father replied

Then all of a sudden, a blue flash of light!

“Aerie take cover! Cover your eyes!” her father screamed.

But it was already too late, the flash had already affected her.

“Ah!!!” she screamed in pain, and placed her hands over her eyes and went and hid in the storm shelter.

I should be safe here. Father told me that this was safe.

She turned on the lamp and fell asleep on the cot. When she woke up she went inside to find everything gone. Where here house once stood was nothing but ground.

“what could have happened?”

She decided to look in the woods for her father.

“ Daniel!” aerie exclaimed.

“Aerie! How are you did you see that weird blue flash last night?!” Daniel asked

“Yeah. I went and hid in the storm cellar. My eyes still hurt a little.” she said covering her eyes.

“I was about to ask what happened, well, what happened to you? Your eyes are purple!”

“what do you mean my eyes are green not purple.”

“no, they are most certainly purple!”

It must have been that blue flash.

“ Will you come with me into the woods to help me find my father.” Aerie asked

“Well I have nothing better to do.” Daniel replied

“what is it?” Daniel asked

“looks like some kind of strange orb.” Aerie says

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!!!!” Daniel shouts

“it wants me to pick it up.”

“WHAT?!!! ARE YOU CRAZY?!!”

“NO, it’s calling me.”

“CALLING YOU?!! I DON’T HEAR ANYTHING!”

“well I can and it wants me, it needs me, it belongs to me.”

And with that she picks up the strange looking orb and it change to a yellow-green color and engulfed Aerie.

“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!”

“I’m inheriting my gift.”

“INHEIRTING YOUR GIFT YOU MUST BE CRAZY!!!”

“STOP!!!”

Suddenly the light disappeared the strange orb was gone too!!! As the smokes dissipates Daniel can make out a long tall figure. It looks kind of like Aerie!!!!!!!! When the smoke cleared Daniel could clearly see this figure, this ‘person’. it was in fact Aerie but she had changed. she now had white almost silver hair. Her eyes were now the purest blue you could ever imagine. Her lips were ruby red. On her forehead was a purple star shaped marking. On her wrist were markings of the same type. Wait! What is this? She has wings. In fact they were the most beautiful wings Daniel ever saw. They were of the purest white feathers with gold tips.

“now do you believe me Daniel?’

“yeah. I do.”

“oh right. How am I ever going to explain this to father? Where is my father?”

Aerie and her father, Nicolai were separated during the great flash. “the great flash” is now the name of that most curious blue flash that happened on that night. Just then Aerie heard a rustling in the woods.

“who’s there?” aerie demanded

“Micheal. And I am sorry to tell you Aerie but your father is gone. I am your guardian now. Come it’s time to move on.”

Micheal had midnight black hair, deep brown eyes, was tall, had strange markings on both of his wrist that matched the one he had on his forehead, and his wings were black with pure silver tips.

“Micheal?”

“yes, Aerie.”
“how did you know my name, and this was where I was, and why has all these changes happened to me?”

“Aerie, I will answer all of your questions plus more but this place right now isn’t safe. Plus we need to get Daniel home I am sure his father is looking for him.”

And with that they walked though the woods to Daniel’s home.

“Aerie. This is far as you can go to Daniel’s home. His father wouldn’t understand. And Daniel.”

“yes?”

“from this moment on you must promise never to tell anyone. And I trust that you have trained with swords before.”

“yes. Why?”

“because from this moment on you must carry a sword with you at all times. You are now the protector of Aerie. If anything is to happen to her while under your watch you will die. Understand?”

“wait. You and Aerie have powers, I can tell. How am I going to be of any help to you and Aerie?”

“ah yes. Since you have no powers I will have to give you some enable for you to protect Aerie. Give me your sword.”

“one moment. Here.”

Micheal took hold of the sword in one hand and the sheath in the other and recited something that they couldn‘t understand.

“here. It will obey you and only you now. It will act like a normal sword in any other hands. Only you and your heirs after you will be able to unleash its full power.”

“wow. Thanks!”

“with this now you have to begin to train tomorrow to control this power. Understand. These powers are to be used to protect.”

“I understand. See you tomorrow Aerie.”

“Aerie. Now we have to find a place for us to sleep.”

“okay lead the way.”

“well let your wings out. We are going to fly there.”

“oh…..Kay….if you think we should.”

“are you nervous?”

“NO!…. yes.”

“okay well I’ll just carry you until you learn.”

He picked her up bridal style and let out his wings, my gosh they were beautiful. They glided over Whispering Springs and landed near the water fall. this was like paradise.

“did you know Micheal, my dad brought me here a lot when I was younger.”

“no. then you must feel comfortable here then.”

“yes. I am. And you promised that you would answer my questions so would you be so kind?”

“okay. Well do you remember that falling star you saw? As I recall you made a wish on it right?”

“yes. Everyone does.”

“well what was your wish?”

“I wanted to be able to do something extraordinary.”

“you see your wish was so pure and so self less that she bestowed the gift to you. Only the ones who wish to do something for the greater good have been bestowed. But not all who wish something good receive the gift. Like your friend Daniel he wished that you would find true happiness.”

“really. He did?”

“now onward. Well I knew your name because Syria told me your name and assigned me to your guardianship. I knew that you were at that spot in the woods because the gift called to me just as it called to you. You heard her voice. Syria’s. she is the one who sent the gift to you. All these changes have happened to you because it was your destiny. Your fate. Your wish.”

“okay. Well goodnight Micheal.” Aerie says yawning and stretching her long arms out.

“goodnight to you Aerie, protector of the light.”

“good morning. Aerie do you want me to teach you to fly today before Daniel comes?”

“umm…what?”

“oh you must still be kind of sleepy.”

“umm….yeah.”

“alright well do you want me to teach you to fly today?”

“that will be fine.”

“good. Well eat some breakfast and meet me by the water fall.”

“okay.”

“are you ready?”

“where are you?”

“look up.”

Aerie looked to the top of the water fall and saw Micheal at the top hen he jumped off.

“Micheal!!!!!”

When was just inches from the ground he opened his wings and flew just past her.

“you scared me!”

“sorry Aerie.”

“well I won’t be doing that.”

“how do you know?”

Then he picked aerie up and flew her to the top of the water fall and set her down.

“well you either fly down or you fall down its your choice.”

“what if I fall?”

“I will catch you before you hit the ground.”

“you promise?”

“yes. I would never let anything happen to you.”

“okay.”

Then Micheal flew down to the ground. Aerie dived down toward the ice blue water below. Then she unfolded her wings half way down and began to fly.

“WOW!!! IT JUST KIND OF CAME NATURALY TO ME!!!!”

“I figured it would.”

“well when you first flew did you fall?”

“yes. In fact I fell a lot but as I kept jumping from water falls and mountains it was either I fly or I die trying.”

“wow. Determined eh?”

“yeah. Well enough about me let’s go pick up Daniel. Now that you can fly we will get there faster.”

“alright let’s go.”

They took off to Daniel’s house. When they got close Micheal told Aerie to call for Daniel. She shouted.

“DANEIL!!”

“what are you thinking?! Do you want Daniel’s father to see you like this?”

“oh right sorry.”

“guess I will have to do this myself.”

He then folded his hands and began to call Daniel through his sword.

“how are you doing that?” Aerie asked puzzled

“we are linked to Daniel by his sword and sheath it is only natural that we would be able to call to him through it.”

“oh. Will you teach me then?”

“yes I guess I will have to.”

“well all you do is well find a state of mind that is completely relaxed and pure. Have you found it?”

“I think.”

“well begin to think about who you wish to reach.”

Daniel.

“hello? Is someone calling my name?”

It was Daniel!! It had worked!

“Oh Daniel it’s me Aerie. I’m outside come on get dressed and bring your sword.”

“okay I’ll be right out.”

“Micheal. It worked I just told Daniel to get up and meet us outside.”

“Aerie? How old is Daniel. How old are you?”

“well Daniel is just one year older than me. And I am 16 years old.”

“oh so Daniel is 17. He will be moving out of his father’s house soon then huh?”

“yeah I guess he will.”

“yeah do you think he would like to live with us. I mean it would make sense seeing that he is your protector.”

“live with us?”

“yes. He will be with you for the rest of his life. It is his duty.”

“wait. I have a question. Do I age?”

“yes but once you reach power maturity you age slower.”

“how old are you if you don’t mind my asking.”

“I will be 359 next spring.”

“wow. So you have been around huh?”

“yes I have seen my share of war, love, and adventure.”

“DANEIL!”

“hum. Hey Aerie. Are you alright?”

“yeah I am just glad to see you.”

“oh…Kay.”

“well let’s get going. Did you want to walk or fly?”

“well I can’t fly.”

“then let’s walk. It’s a beautiful day anyway.”

“Aerie. Do you know why it is such a beautiful day?”

“Micheal, are trying to tell me that I have something to do with the weather?”

“yes and do you notice the vines growing around you?”

“wow! I have this much effect on the area around me?”

“yes, I have noticed it in your aura. You have such a positive energy that everything around you is effected.” Micheal comments as they walk though the thick woods.

“alright try to slice through that tree.”

“okay.”

He began to collect an energy flow.

“SILVER REAPER!!!!!”

The tree sliced like bread. Aerie flew close to the now dead tree and watched as a new sprout formed.

“there we go.”

“alright what now?”

“how about you try to part the river.”

“part the river?”

“yes.”

Daniel began to glow from all the energy he was collecting.

“careful Daniel don’t collect too much energy you might pass out with the excess.”

“ I think that I might know how much energy I need I have been at this for 10 hours now!”

“don’t yell at me!!”

The sky turned black and Aerie’s eyes began to change from those pure blue eyes to jet black. Her hair from white/silver to fire red with black streaks.

“AERIE YOU HAVE TO CALM DOWN!!!!”

Trees began to fall all around them and the wind was so strong it almost knocked Daniel off of his feet.

“why should I?”

“because he is sorry he was just frustrated. Just please calm down.”

“not until he has learned his lesson!”

“how can he learn anything if he is dead?!”

Her expression changed, the winds died down, her hair faded back to that beautiful white/silver, and her eyes changed back to pure blue. She fainted from the sudden change of aura and strong feelings of hate and frustration. Daniel quickly caught her and carried her to a spot under a tree next to the river. Flower began to grow around her creating a blanket.

“isn’t that convenient. It gives me a few good ideas.” Micheal says yawning.

“well you can go take a nap I think that you deserve it. I’ll watch over Aerie while you sleep.”

“okay.”

After that Micheal unfolded his wings and flew up to a cloud and laid back and fell asleep. Daniel walked over to where Aerie laid asleep and sat next to the river.

Let’s see if I can catch us some fish. Daniel walked into the river and reached down. Missed!!! Missed!!!

Maybe I’ll give him a hand and he just not know about it. Aerie thought to herself. So she called the fish. Come to me. Come to me. Then all of a sudden a whole school of fish swam toward Daniel. Wow look a whole school! He had finally caught all the fish he needed.

“so how long are you going to let him do all of this?” “don’t know. I think he needs to feel useful.”

“okay”

“well, how about you fly back up into the tree so that he doesn’t know we’re awake.”

“good idea”

Micheal muttered some spell to help start the fire, and wouldn’t you know it. A fire had been started up by the next strike of the river stones. Now to get these fish grilled. Daniel walked back into the woods to find some sticks. He found some nice sturdy sticks, stripped them and skewered the fish and set he fish-a-bobs around the fire. Please tell me that he knows how to cook. Aerie thought to herself. It turned out that he was a good cook after all because in fact he walked into the woods once again in search of some herbs. He came back with several hand-fulls. And rubbed the herbs onto the skin of the fish. She looks so beautiful when she sleeps like that. So graceful, elegant, beautiful, pure. She will never think of me like that.

“what is that smell? It smells sooo good.” aerie says as she rubes her eyes.

“oh that would be grilled fish-a-bobs.”

“oh I didn’t know you knew how to cook.”

“yeah my mom taught me how to make a few things before she died. How did you sleep?”

“just fine. It looks like the flowers made me a blanket.”

“yeah. You looked so peaceful.”

“well what did you and Micheal do while I was sleeping?”

“Micheal went and took a nap on a cloud. Tell you the truth, I have no idea where he is now.”

“we will find him later, but now I want to hear about your day.”

“well first I went down by the river to catch some fish, and when I almost gave up on catching some fish a whole school swam downstream! Then I tried to start a fire, but I had some trouble and I almost gave up on that too. Well as you can see I got the fire started. Then I began to cook the fish.”

“sounds like you have been working hard I think you deserve a reward.”

“what are you getting at?”

Then all of a sudden she grabbed his arm and she opened her wings up and they began to fly above the clouds.

“so this is what you were planning.”

“no this isn’t what I had in mind, we have to get as far away from Micheal as we can but, not too far from him I don’t want him to get worried.”

“so where are we going?”

“mystic mountains we are going to sit on some of the clouds surrounding the mountain and look out at the stars.”

“aerie. I don’t think I’ll be able to sit on a cloud like you and Micheal can.”

“sure you can, anyone can. All you have to do is keep your mind at ease. Trust me.”

“I do.”

On the rest of the trip they were both silent taking in the scenery below.

how beautiful. Daniel thought to himself. Aerie is just as beautiful as the land below.

“we are almost there.” aerie said after a whole trip without saying a word.

“aerie, you don’t have to do this for me. I was just doing what I thought needed to be done.”

“I know, tell you the truth I just want to be alone with you for a little bit before Micheal wakes up and comes for us.”

They fell silent.

“ah look! There it is! It’s so beautiful.” Aerie said

“I see.”

“now to find a comfortable cloud.”

“aerie?”

“yeah?”

“uhh… what cloud isn’t comfortable?”

“more than you think. They’re not all light and fluffy you know.”

“actually I wouldn’t.’

“oh yeah you’re right.”

They finally found the perfect cloud and she softly set Daniel down first then glided down shortly after flying around the mountain first to make sure they were alone.

“good no one to disturb us.” aerie said as she scoots closer to Daniel and rests her head on his shoulder.

“aerie.”

“what is it Daniel?”

“I love you.”

“you know what. I love you too.”

Her eyes, he could look into them forever. He began to run his finger through her hair. As he did so he put his free hand around her waist.

“you know we came here to look at the stars right?”

“yeah but I would rather just look at you.”

“oh Daniel you always did know the right thing to say.”

“shhh.” he said as he placed a finger over lips. Just as he did he lifted her chin and kissed her.

“yum. I like that.” aerie said

“thought you would.”

I’ll let them sit alone for a while. Micheal thought to himself. Apparently they didn’t notice him fly by and land on a tree branch. I thought I sensed that they liked each other. Now that his feelings toward her have grown so will his powers. I really do hope that he can control it and not give in. since he can’t fly how will he be able to keep up? OH! I know, I’ll get him a dragon. No. that will never work out. I wonder if Ryun still has those flying horses. I hear they are incredibly fast, easy to train, very loyal, and their strength is astonishing. Yeah that is what we need. Well we will begin the journey tomorrow. And now that they have ’claimed’ each other Daniel will never leave her side and proudly announce his independence.

“ah. Daniel I don’t ever want to leave your side. I wish we could stay here forever.” aerie says

“I know exactly how you feel. When we get back I am going to announce my independence and I will never leave your side.”

“oh Daniel you would do that for me?”

“yes and a thousand times over. I would die for you. In fact if I died protecting you I would die happy knowing that you were safe.”

They kiss even more passionately. She rolls over on her back as he begins to lean over her and kisses her. She begins to run her fingers through her hair.

Whoa! What the? Maybe I should break things up before they get out of hand. Maybe not I’ll just sit here a few more minutes and make sure nothing happens. After all I am her guardian. I’m like her ‘step’ father after all right? Yeah. And if she gets pregnant things will get really sticky. I mean she hasn’t even taken her place as princess yet. No she will have to wait. He will have to wait.

“Daniel I love you but I don’t want things to get too complicated right now. I haven’t even mastered my basic powers.”

“I know I wasn’t going to push things too far right now.”

Whew! Good they aren’t going too far. I knew she was a good girl. She is smart. Good. Alright I’m going to fly around and act like I’ve been looking for them. But I have to fly lower. Okay.

“AERIE!? DANEIL!? WHERE ARE YOU GUYS?!!!” Micheal screams as he flys around acting like he is looking for them even though he knows where they are.

“oh great. He is awake. And he is looking for us. I guess we have to go back to camp.”

“oh yeah and I hope the fish didn’t burn.”

“yeah I hate the taste of burnt fish. Its so nasty.”

“tell me about it.”

“well let’s get going.”

They dive off of the cloud and fly up next to Micheal.

“where have you two been?”

“we were sitting on a cloud looking out at the stars.”

Making out more like it. Micheal thought to himself.
