The next morning the girls awoke to the sound of the bugle. They reluctantly got out of bed, dressed, and went to breakfast. In the cafeteria the campers ate pancakes and sausage while talking with their friends. Kaitlyn was sitting at a table with Candis, Michelle, and Amber. Between words and bites she looked around the cafeteria.

“Who you looking for?” Candis asked. “Oh, no one.” she replied. “I know you’re looking for Ben but he’s not in here. I heard him talking to his friends about skipping breakfast to unpack since he didn’t get a chance to last night.”

“Oh, ok…well I’m full. I think I’ll go back to the cabin for a while.” she said while getting up. Kaitlyn dumped her food in the garbage and walked out.

“She’s not going back to the cabin. She‘s going to find Ben.” Candis said. “How do you know that?” Amber asked. “Well, considering the fact that she was looking for him, when we told her he wasn’t here she left, and that she went towards the boys cabins instead of the girls. So she’s either going to his cabin or couldn’t read the sign.” The three girls laughed and continued to eat their breakfast.

Kaitlyn stood a few feet from Bens cabin. She stared at the sign that read ‘Cabin 2B’ trying to gain enough courage to approach the door. She took a deep breath, walked up one step, then two, and then the third. She looked through the window and saw that Bens back was towards her. He was busy unpacking from a box, and she was about to turn and leave but told herself that she was here and to just do it. She knocked on the door.

Ben turned to see it was Kaitlyn and said “Oh, hey. Come on in.” She entered his cabin as he stood up and walked over to her. “So, what are you doing here? Is breakfast over already?” he asked her. “No, I just left early. I was full so I was going for a walk until the others are done when I saw you were in here.” “Oh, well since you’re here do you wanna help me unpack?” he asked her. “Sure” she said while kneeling on the floor near his box of stuff.

They went through his things and talked about their childhood and family. Kaitlyn was really enjoying just being in the room with him.

Meanwhile at the cafeteria Candis, Michelle, and Amber were finishing their breakfast. “Hey, look over there.” Candis said while pointing to a hot guy at another table.

“I’m gonna go talk to him…..” she said as getting up from the table. “You go girl” Michelle called to her. Now Michelle and Amber were alone at the table. ”So……now what? Kaity and Candi are both after a guy while we sit here boyless.” Michelle stated. “Well actually….I have a boyfriend.” Amber said shyly. “You do? Why didn’t you ever tell us?” “I never told anyone because it’s not going to last much longer…..”

“Why not?” “Well, he’s back in Delaware and probably found another girl…. I thought we could have a long distance relationship but it’s hopeless. He’s gonna call any day now to break up with me.” Amber said sadly. “You don’t know that for sure. It could still work out, you just have to wait and see.” I guess you’re right, but enough of me, why aren’t you chasing a guy around?” Michelle sat for a moment thinking. She didn’t know the answer either.

She was always the outgoing one who would point out the hot guys but never seemed to flirt with them or at least talk. Then she realized that she never had a boyfriend before. Candis had a different one each month and Kaitlyn had one or two, but Michelle didn’t. Finally she replied “I really don’t know. I guess I’m just better at pointing out the guys than actually trying to hook one.” They laughed together then noticed Candis was walking back to the table.

“So…..how’d it go?” Michelle asked her. “You wanna know how it went? Look at this” she said while showing Amber and Michelle a piece of paper. It read “Matt Cabin 1B cell-401-0576” “That’s his name, cabin, and cell number! He asked me to come over tonight too!” “Wow, it’s the second day of camp and you already have a date, you really are boy crazy!” Michelle said. They giggled as they stood up to empty their trays.
