As I entered the kitchen , I am altogether impressed. "Wow, impressive mother," I said forming a michevious smile acrosee my lips. I shifted my gaze to my mother who was standing there biting down on her lower lip, pleading me with her eyes not to embarrass her. So I carelessly grabbed a chair and flopped down in it rudely. "Wow this is quite a lovely spread you have here , Diane," said Richard studying the table.
"This is quite a lovely spread you have here , blah ," I said mocking Richards words. "Excuse me?" replied Richard eyeing me from across the table. "You will have to excuse her," my mother said clearing her throat nervously. "She is quite a character," said Richard smiling brightly. I just rolled my eyes at my failed attempt to anger him. "Well , Honey, Richard and I have come to a final desciocion," said my mom smiling at Richard. "Yes Madame," I replied rolling my eyes and glaring at Richard.
"Well , um , Richard and Troy are going to come live with us," She said grinning. I quickly dropped my fork and stood up angrily. "Just when I think you can't get even more ridicoulous you always succeed , Diane," I replied darting up to my room. I slammed the door behind me and flopped myself forcefully on the bed. Tear after tear fell silently on my cheeks as I pulled my photo album from beneath my bed. As I glanced at every picture of my father my tears began to fall even more rapidly.
How could mom betray my father, by inviting some strange guy to take his place? A few moments later I heard a quiet knock at my door. "Go away," I replied burying my head deeper into the pillow. The knocking continued a little louder , but still very gently. "I don't need on of your pitiful mother to daughter speeches," I hollered at the door. "Its Troy," said the voice outside my door. "I guess you can come in," I yelled sitting up in my bed. I couldn't help but think I must look terrible with all that eyeliner running down my cheeks.
Very quietly Troy opened the door and closed it behind him. "You seemed pretty upset when you left the table , so I decided to come check on you," he said smiling warmly. "Oh Troy I just don't want a replacement father," I said releasing more tears. He slowly came over and took a seat on the edge of my bed. "I understand," He said wiping the tears from my cheeks. "My mother left me when I was only two," He said with his smile fading. "Oh," was my only reply.
"I had no idea ," I replied. "My father aint much , but he is a decent man, he raised me all by himself," He said gazing in my eyes pleading me to understand. "I know he will never replace your dad, but please don't treat him as a stranger," He said. I just lay there looking at the ceiling. "And if you give me a chance I will be a good friend," He said looking thoughtful. "I guess I could give Richard a chance," I said revealing a tiny smile. "Thank you," he said exiting my room. I quickly got up and started on my way downstairs.
When I entered the room mother's and Richard's eyes both fell sharply on me. All of my emotions seemed to catch up with me right then and there. I quickly darted towards Richard throwing my arms around him crying hysterically. "I'm sorry and I hope you will forgive me," I said crying on to his shoulders. He then squeezed me tightly and smiled warmly. "You are quite a charming young lady, and yes dear I accept your apology," He said smiling. I removed myself from his warm hug, and glanced over at mother.
She was wearing a look of appreciation. I quickly pulled up a chair and finished my dinner. "Kailee , Will you do me a favor and show Troy his room," She said with a handfull of dirty dishes. "Yes master," I replied with a giggle. "Somethings never change," she said with a half smile. She then rolled her eyes and continued the dishes."Are you ready to see your room?" I asked with a chuckle. "Why thank you mam," He said laughing. As we approached his room he suddenly gazed at it in shock. "It could use a little work," He said scratching his chin.
"What you mean?" I asked wearing a blank look. "I could hang some of my paintings," He said gazing at the empty walls. I quickly turned my head a giggled. "What?" he asked looking hurt. "I wasn't making fun, I just figured someone who looks like you would be a sportsy type person," I said staring blankley at him. "Nope , not this guy," He said following my eyes. "Well I'm going to bed," I replied. "Goodnight," he said with a warm smile. I quickly enetered my room and closed the door behind me.
Many thoughts were running through my brain at that moment. I stood nervously pacing my room. Something about Troy made my heart flutter. "Is it wrong to develop feelings for my mother's boyfriend's son?" I questioned myself.
