The Highway Man Chapter 3
|
The next morning I stood waiting for him while the ocean mist hit my face then Tim, the ostler came up to me. "What are you thinking about Bess?" he asked searching my eyes for an answer. "I…don’t really know." I said lying. I had been thinking of
him. "You’re lying Bess. I heard everything last night. He will get you in trouble you know. He’s a thief." "No he’s not Tim, I know it." I said turning around and walking back to the inn. "Why don’t you love someone like me?" Tim asked. "Because I don’t." I hissed and went up into my room. I stared at the sunlight. Hours passed. He never came. I was beginning to worry. Then I heard the drums and the coats of scarlett. The birtish had come and they marched up to our door. I begged my father not to answer it but he did. The british walked in and asked for some ale. Then I was cleaning and I went up into my room. Then the general saw me. "Hey pretty girl," he said and tied me to the bed. He put a barrel beneath my breast and muskets at my sides. What was going to happen to me? Where was
he?
