The Paranoid Frog

Short Created on 1-3-08 Views(49) Story Rating G

There was once a dark green frog who was very racy and dramatic and was prone to falling in love with beautiful women on sight.  But he had not much belief in the fairy tales of old because he kissed many and still remained a frog. However, this didn't stop him charming many of them....

One rainy quite foggy day he was prancing about in the forest pond when he caught sight of a rather wistful looking young lady....she was by far not the prettiest he'd seen but there was something alluring about her. He leaped over towards her. 'Good evening young lady' he said with the best smile he could conjure. 'Is it....' she replied drearily. 'Sweetheart' said the frog. 'What could make such a pretty young thing as yourself so sad?' She slowely looked up at him as a shiny snail like trail of a tear glided down her face. She didn't reply...but her eyes met the very kind eyes of the frog and she felt an instant warmth from him.

The frog continued to meet that lady everyday for the next week. It is true that a love instantly grew between them. He found out her name. It was Frulita. But then after the 7th meeting it all became very messy. She wanted him to kiss her you see and the frog no longer did that after many embarrassing times in which he had disappointed many by not turning into a prince. Instead of explaining this to her he said 'Don't....I do not wish to kiss you although you are to me so lovely'. It was the first time he seen her cry in a week. He bid her farewell and leaped into a very dark part of the woods.

For two weeks he sat and stared out as he watched Frulita sit by the pond for an hour every day. He saw the disappointment on her face. He saw her clothes go from a dark shade to an even darker shade. He watched as she no longer cried but stared blankly out. But he knew what had happened before when he kissed the others. They never came back. At least this way he could see Frulita. How he loved her and longed to hold her and make her feel better.

After much time passed he grew weary and so thought about it a bit more deeply. It was then that he decided as much as he loved her he had to let her go and set her free from this marraige of sorrow. So the next day he made sure he was there before the time Frulita would be due to get there. He waited and waited and then he thought 'She is not going to turn up is she'. But those words like magic brought her to his side where once again she wept through a torrent of words. 'Sweetheart' said the frog. 'I shall bear you one kiss as I lied to you before'. She closed her eyes as he gently kissed her leaf like lips. When she opened them she was smiling and her eyes twinkled but he was crying.

'I hoped the fairytales weren't true because I didn't want to lose you' she said. 'But maybe they are.....' said the frog.

She took him home and together they lived as frog and wife for the rest of their years.
