Amy Carlson was a gifted actress. By the age of ten she had already starred in over fifteen plays. By the age of twenty she had been offered scholarships to all of the finest acting schools. On her first day at acting school she met a guy named Adam. He showed her around the school and they slowly became good friends. But the way Amy felt about him wasn’t just as a friend, it was something more. What Amy didn’t know is that Adam felt the same way; he just didn’t have the courage to say something. When it came time for the graduation, he realized that he might never see her again, so he finally decided to tell her how he really felt. Just as he was about to say something, she got a call on her cell phone. It was her mother calling to tell her that her father is very sick and she must come to their home in Paris. It was a hard decision to make, but she decided to go to Paris to be with her father. Of course, she knew that this meant she might never see Adam again, but this was a sacrifice they were willing to make. After six months went by, everyone lost hope that her father would ever get well again; they were wrong. He slowly started to get better. Within three weeks, he was as good as new. Since he was feeling better, Amy decided to ask her parents to give her permission to go back to America. They agreed, and when she finally got back, she went directly to see Adam. She was nervous because, while in Paris, she accepted Jesus as her savior and she knew that Adam might not take the news so well. When Adam answered the door and saw her there, he got really excited and told her she had to come in right away and tell him everything that had happened in Paris. She told him everything except getting saved. She wanted to tell him so badly, but she just wasn’t sure how. As soon as she was done, he started telling her about how he had sent ideas for reality shows for MTV and how they liked his ideas so much, they put him in charge of it all.“Amy, since I’m in charge, I was thinking that you would be a good choice for some pilot episodes. What do you think?”“Adam, I can’t. There is one more thing I haven’t told you about yet. While I was in Paris, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and I’ve never been happier. But that also means that I can’t do stuff like that any more.”“But why would you do something like that? You’ve gone twenty years without him and you’ve done just fine! So why would you make a decision like that all of a sudden?”“Adam, you don’t understand. I’ve never really felt happy until I got saved.”“You were never happy?! Oh, so I wasn’t good enough for you. Is that what you’re saying? Is this just a way of breaking up with me?”“No, I would never do something like that.”“Obviously you would, because you’re doing it right now!”“Adam, I don’t want to break up with you, but I have to unless you get saved too.”“You can’t do that to me! You don’t know how miserable I’ve been without you! I’ve done some things I’m not proud of. And it’s because I was so depressed without you. So if you leave now, who knows what could happen!”“Adam, what sort of things have you done that are that bad?”“Nothing that you would care about. You know what? Just forget everything I said. Go ahead and leave. But leave knowing that you will never see me again.”“Fine, if that’s the way you feel, I will leave.”“Okay, but you are making a huge sacrifice.”“Adam, I’ve made other sacrifices that you will never understand. That’s what being a Christian is all about.”“Why join a religion where all you do is make sacrifices?”“I hope someday you will understand what sacrifice really means.”And, with that said, she walked out. He thought he would never see her again. In about two months, he would find out just how wrong he was. You see, after she left, his life started to get worse and worse. He started stealing, doing drugs, he even joined the toughest, meanest gang there was. Then one day, when he was thinking his life couldn’t be worse, Amy came to visit him.“Adam, I heard about everything that’s happened to you.”“You’re probably thinking you’re glad you dumped before all this happened, aren’t you?”“I didn’t want any of this to happen. I wanted you to realize that Jesus loves you. And so do---“All of a sudden, some of the gang members bust in!“Hey, Adam. We heard you tried to rat us out to the police.”“No, you guys are mistaken. It wasn’t me.”“I wish I could believe you. But you know what happens when someone is disloyal.”“Come on. Give me a chance to prove that it wasn’t me.”“Sorry. Rules are rules.”Just as he said that, he pulled a gun out of his jacket and aimed it at Adam, and said,“Goodbye. It was nice knowing you.”And just as he pulled the trigger, Amy jumps between Adam and the bullet. As he held her, tears running down his face, and the police siren wailing, they had a conversation he never forgot.“Why, Amy? Why did you save me?”“Because I know where I’ll go after I die and I wanted you to understand that Jesus died for us, too.”“Why?”“Because dying for someone you love is the greatest sacrifice of all.”
