“Hey Aria, did you hear about Josh?” Ashley said in a sing-song voice.
“No, what about him?” Aria asked, seemingly uninterested.
“He likes you.” Ashley sighed, a bit rudely.
“I doubt it Ash.” Aria said, getting a bit too hopeful. “And if he did, wouldn’t he have asked me out?”
“Don’t be too sure about that.” She said, grudgingly. “I bet he’ll ask you within the next week.”
“Whatever.”
Aria continued into the cafeteria and saw Josh sitting by her normal seat.
“What are you doing over here?” She asked, suspiciously.
“What? I can’t sit next to you when I want to?” Josh was eyeing Aria, trying to see whether she was surprised or happy. He could tell it was both.
“Whatever you want your majesty.” She said with a sharp tongue.
“Well I also wanted to ask you a teensy little favor.” He said, winking one deep blue eye. “You know that little Homecoming dance?”
“Yes.” Aria said, getting her hopes up.
“Well there’s this girl I was wanting to ask…” He said, shifting uncomfortably. “So do you want to go with me?”
“Yeah, I think that’d be fun.” Aria said, secretly elated and super excited.
“Great,” Josh said relieved. “I’ll pick you up at 8:00 Next Saturday.”
“Alright.” She smiled, trying not to giggle.
Josh stood and walked back to his own table. As Aria sat and thought. Friends filled the table around her but nobody even noticed that Aria had an amazing smile on her face. She was always thinking about something lately, what it was, nobody could figure out. But as long as she kept smiling everybody else was happy too.
“Hey Ar! You and Josh are like, best friends now! What gives?” Ashley asked.
“He just asked me to Homecoming…” Aria said, almost feeling in a daydream.
“Oh My God!” Ashley cried. “What did you say?!”
“What do you think I said?” Aria questioned.
“Oh MY GOD!” Ashley screamed. “ARIA’S GOING TO HOMECOMING WITH JOSH MONTE CARLO!”
Aria felt as if her heart had just dropped into her stomach. It was official. She was going to homecoming with none other than THE Josh Monte Carlo. And there was nothing she could -or wanted to - do about it. So the rest of the week went by as usual, until Friday that is. Friday, as Aria figured, would be the worst day of her life…
