The Last Case Chapter 14

Other Created on 2-8-08 Views(44) Story Rating G

Patrick woke to find his brother not in the office, not in his house, not anywhere. Then, he appeared once again at the edge of town, with nothing but a decomposing liver in his hands. “My god… Who’d do such a thing?” A lady gasped when he sped past her. “She fainted from the smell. Another woman helped her up, spitting at Monstru. “How could you just take a raw organ and run across the street with it, scaring the residents, and disgusting them!” He paid no attention, his mission too important to get distracted. The forensics department has to determine who this guy is, before they report him missing… “Vladimir Biggs had just been reported missing.” He cursed under his breath.
“Positive, Biggs has been murdered by this cannibal.” “Set a curfew, don’t allow anyone out after ten. Only policemen. Get that permitted by the mayor. NOW!” He snarled at the inspector of five years. Grabbing another officer by the collar, he growled into his face, “I want you to go, find the team working on this case and get them in my office, pronto!” “Ian. Won’t others rebel if you set it at ten? Why not up the lights a little?” “Money wastage. We have been told not to do that again. Besides, the mayor told us that we should at least come up with a reasonable plan. Or perhaps I should patrol once a week, then I’ll find a way to punish them. A day’s jail in our darkest cells?” “Good idea. The curfew will be immediately. The public speakers will go for that. I’ll take care of that…” The mayor proclaimed sarcastically. He had heard that and was about to inquire about what he will do about it. “Mayor Kevin. We are thinking hard, even I can’t solve it. It seems this killer knows my tricks. What do you propose, mayor?” “I think, they should fire you and that Jack Hunter!” “Aright, then. Fire me and see what happens to these sorry people you call detectives!” He left abruptly. “You will take a day’s suspension. Tomorrow, I will see your desk quite empty!” He screamed at the fuming policeman.
The rest sat there, thinking of what they should do at that moment. They still couldn’t believe the ignorant mayor. He had not even set foot in their work. And now he’s going to tell them what to do? “Listen  up! We will investigate this man’s death, we’ll see the evidence on it.” They just stared blankly. “Sir. Even the dumbest one here knows that there’s no evidence; no murder weapon, no DNA from the killer, no clue to his whereabouts. The closest so far is that he’s a cannibal, he probably have an assistant and that he only leaves one organ as his signature. These were ruled out by Monstru. And he’s the best in town…” “Enough! You lazy bastards mention that name again, I’ll make you all jobless, ruin the lives of your families!” “Why I oughtta…” “Cool it, man! You want your family messed with, you go aggravate him later!” “Good. Now, off to the crime scene.” Everyone except the mayor scowled. This man was pushing it…
The forensics department missed the lanky one. He always spotted a flaw in their office, and told them how to correct it. Even told them once what was wrong with the body. He was nice, just a little strict. This case happened to shake him up a little. But the mayor trying to ruin him? He might have gone mad.

And that was what he did. He was attacking a bull, one that was quite unruly, subduing it. His cousin, Charlie just shook his head. There goes our shoot-out for the week. It was the third time he ate down the fence. And harmed the cows.” Jack watched this destructive behaviour, gasping when Monstru knocked it down for the second time. “Mayor Kevin? He’s so dumb, he can’t tell between good and ugly. He just gave the best in Manhattan a suspension because he hates me? HE IS SO BLOODY STUPID, I DON’T KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE THAT FAT TURKEY BOTTOM!” His anger was seething out of him. The rage was strong enough to have the struggling bull pinned down, staring furiously at the man’s eyes.
Then, in one fluid motion, Monstru bit off its left foreleg. Then, he tore off its flanks, eating it raw. Carrying the whole carcass to the uninvited spectators, he licked the blood around his mouth. He dropped the heavy beast on the table, and stalked off, towards the river. Hunter followed silently. He brought a bottle of clove oil with him, thinking that maybe he could calm Ian with a bit of a aroma therapy after his raging onslaught.
Ian grabbed at many river fishes. Most succumbed to his grip once they were out of water, but some thrashed, and still got caught by the man. The bigger salmon simply swam away,  leaving Ian to jump in, and catch the fish. He got out, with the bloody  vertebrae in his mouth. “Let’s go…” Part of his steam had worn off. “Ian. Would you like to come over my place, and sleep?” “Sure. Never seen your house before…” He had the aid of Jack carrying the whole school of marine animals. They gave the load to the restaurant Charlie’s wife, Mrs Ashley Monstru,  ran, which was a Japanese seafood one.

The mayor entered the nicely lit and decorated Asian food eating house. “So, Pippins… How are you liking our date?” “You know, under Monstru’s rule, we never date each other… In fact, he doesn’t have an eye for anyone, only… Ingrid…” “Stop saying his name! Please!” “Hello Mayor Kevin…” Ashley walked over and decided to take the order from the man of authority himself. “Yes. I’d like to have the great dish for tonight, and she’ll have a sushi meal…” “You won’t abuse my brother-in-law’s secretary, would you?” She asked so casually it seemed she was just joking. “You suspended him. And you dare step into his sister-in-law’s own eatery? Shameless. You  are!” The news had spread fast, he observed. “I don’t want to have my appetite ruined. Just bring our order!” “The election’s coming up… I’ll vote for Jerry François…” He sighed. “Just get our order…” She walked away in a huff. “Monstru’s a well-liked guy… and I can be hated just for enraging him.” The waitresses simply stood rooted, appalled by the behaviour he had shown. This was really an obnoxious man as the officials said.
She returned shortly, holding a plate of sushi only. “What is this?” “The special, sir. For Pippins. We serve ladies first.” Another came into the private room with a big salmon on a large plate. “Monstru caught. This is our special for the night. The only one.” This was delicious, of course, but he could still see the teeth marks on it; it did put him off, but it was forced down to satisfy his hunger for fish. He paid his tab, and left.

Meanwhile, Hunter had massaged his buddy with the oil of cloves, and  he had relaxed a lot more, his fury extinguished. “A day off… More people will get murdered…”
