The Last Case Chapter 13
|
Ian woke up with a nice feeling in his stomach and body. Jack was alongside him, but he seemed a little happier than usual. “Jack. I’m sorry about yesterday.” “It’s alright… I should be the one sorry for not being able to help you…” “The distraction worked perfectly, that’s why we were able to kill that dumb-ass. Don’t be so hard on yourself, Jack.” With that, he left the room, for the station with Hunter near his side. People watching them thought they were either gay or brothers. Seriously. Who kisses their partner on the forehead when he is down? Only brothers or a gay couple. They deduced they were brothers of some sort; perhaps God had created their souls together, and they will be brothers spiritually. Little did they know the real truth…
The sleuths shuffled their feet as Monstru looked out the window. This wasn’t good. “None of you actually bothered to find more clues to these murders? What, and you guys told the media of our investigation so far? What were you thinking?” George was sweating profusely. What were they thinking? “Brother. We haven’t gone because the clues are the freaking same! We have no witness, no foreign clues. None had shown any rape evidence, only mutilated body parts. You said it yourself. There’s a cannibal. We can’t just line everyone up, can we?” He rubbed his temples. Come on! There must be a better reason, he was tempted to shout. “Okay. Then line one by one. Starting with Charlie Monstru…” He dismissed them, and stared out the window again. There was another report for a missing lady, Loraine Francis, and this killer was becoming more sick: a brain at the playground. The children that went there later were overwhelmed by the smell, and were traumatised by the sight. At least when their parents told them that was what a brain that was from a healthy non-smoker looked like. Too much information!
‘He needed rest from the exhausting journey through the woods. The demon was still alive and pursuing his prey. He couldn’t take it anymore. Whipping out his gun with only one bullet left, he trained his eyes to spot the monster. Then, all was black for him as it attacked from behind.’ The Devil smiled. This is going to happen quite soon… His grandsons will do just that.
Arch-angel Gabriel came and threw a soul so stained with innocent blood into his arms. “Take him! This guilty sod does not have a place in heaven!” After his short exclamation, he flew back to the realms above. “Ah… So you are my next slave driver, eh?” “Okay, sir…” He took the whip, cracking it at the bony souls that were condemned. “When are you guys coming?” He pondered and returned to his conversation with Draco, putting away the book he was reading.
Ian was running-the dogs were chasing him again, their daily workout. Everyone watched as the dogs began to tire out, then stop as Monstru jumped over the fence and around the sidewalk thrice. “Okay. Now, what is there to do?” Then, without even waiting for the reply, he grabbed Hunter and ran towards the forest, where he had picked up a new scent… A fresh scent of a man as a poacher. Another stag was being shot and left to die while its antlers were ripped from its head forcefully.
The wolves were not there when Ian and Jack reached the scene. The stag was dead, and the illegal hunters were stowing away the huge antlers when Monstru wrestled one down. The rest nearly got away as two others arrived on the scene. Jack had caught two of them. The stag could not be saved, however, because the medical help arrived too late, and the cruel tearing of antlers without sawing it off caused its skull to protrude from its head. They had failed to preserve an animal’s life. Failed. This was quite common, considering the fact the Chief hated animals; to him, they were food, workout, and killing practice.
“Sir, the graves of Wendy and Stanley Keith have been reopened last night, seems that some one stole a bone, and cried on the spot. The resting spots of Ashley, Maria and Leonard Keith had been dug up too. Wonder who would do this to your foster family…” The salty raindrop from his left organ of sight rolled down his gaunt face like a boulder on the mountain. “Just close up the graves. Don’t give me the details.”
“Charlie, we have to have a lie detector for making sure you tell the truth, and no false information. And yes, we have the same attorney, and we have legal rights to hammer you to answer.” “You know how to push other’s buttons. No fair.” “First question: How cooked do you like your meat?” “Well done. Blood isn’t my type.” “And you still ate my thanksgiving medium cooked turkey?” “Yeah… Next question.” “Do you know who is Loraine Francis of Chicago?” “I think I do… is she a teacher from my school?” “Yes.” “Oh. Of course I do. She’s my history teacher for an eighth grade class.” “She had been murdered. Her brain was at the playground.”
“Her brain? No way! And the report was filed seven minutes before it was found?” “Apparently so. This cannibal is something to contend with.” “You sure it’s the work of only one person? There might be more.” That struck Ian. He hadn’t thought of the answer to that. “Last one before we let you go for the time being. Did you have a grudge against her, or do you know anyone who might?” “I don’t. She’s a great teacher, and she has no enemies. Besides, from the papers, I know none other victims, besides your ex-girlfriend and her lover.” Damn! This killer slaughters random people, harder to solve. Ian had gone crazy again. “I see. You’re free to go for the time being. You haven’t told a lie so far. And tell little Jimmy I said he could come over this Saturday if he wants to.” “’Kay Cousin. Three days… I’ll see you then…”
He walked away, listening to the birds chirping their nightly song. Ah! The sweet life! This innocent man who had just eaten a heavy meal was about to be attacked. Ah! The demons will have an unexpected feast from his stomach!
