The Last Case Chapter 2

Other Created on 2-1-08 Views(33) Story Rating G

It was early in the morning, Ian was just waking up, when his brother called. “You won’t believe it. The murderer we’re looking for is a predator-type creature!” He sat bolt upright. “I’ll be there in a jiff.”
“Tell me everything.” Ian ordered, while combing the knots off his hair. “Well, it’s a monster, it’s got a bunch of animal genes, and appears to be human as well. And, we only found out from the DNA check. It was mixed with her blood, as… some sort of slimy and gooey substance. Semen, or saliva, maybe.” “Well, whoever’s, or whatever’s, ass is partial busted now. Well done, I’ll viewing your reports daily. Alright, now, go on, I have another case of vandalism for Freddy Brown.”
Pulling out his breakfast from a pocket, Ian noted down the creature description by Patrick from the folder of their daily reports. Unwrapping the paper to reveal raw meat of an unknown kind, Ian chomped down on his delicious food while reviewing the notes, one point by one.

“Excellent work, my friends, you found out about the creature at night, haven’t you? Well, who’d know it’d be me?” A chuckle erupted from his throat, and he resumed his work.

Ian took out his medicine after finishing his meal. “One day I’ll be cured of this…” he sighed as he jolted back into reality by a loud ring of the phone. “Chief Detective Monstru, there’s another murdered Pit-bull on the streets, how do we nab this serial dog killer?” “Send the dog for forensics, again.” he ordered the cop on the other line, his voice tinged with obvious annoyance. Slamming the phone down, he reached for a piece of paper. ‘To my dear Caroline,…’ was written. It was the speech for his beloved’s funeral service by him.
Day 2 of the murder case, but no clue, only that the criminal is half beast. It made him think of his surgery after the freak attack by his mortal enemy. Coincidence? Was it him? After all, he was slightly  schizophrenic. But it was impossible. He felt as frisky as a ferret when he got up that morning, almost as if he had eaten five bowls of chocolate. And then slept.
Patrick came in without his brother’s consent and took a seat. “I know this is a hard time for you, but trust me, you’ll  be okay.” Ian turned away, not wanting to let his only male sibling watch him let his organs of sight become waterfalls, or his lips to part a shriek and a cloud of rain. His ultra-black shades were on the desk, and Patrick tried them on as silently as he could. “Put them back on the table.” Cautiously, he slipped them off, amazed by his brother’s sense of hearing. He stalked out of the ajar wooden rectangle, and pulled the handle towards him, and let go of it when he heard the click of the lock fitting into place.
It was one of his daydreams, and it was one of those which he had solved a case so dear to his heart-his girlfriend’s murder. It wasn’t easy coping with that, especially after knowing her for eight years. But then again, she had slept with another guy, whom she had seen for five years. Rage and the spirit of forgiveness coursed through him when he found out. Perhaps it was time to move on, he had thought at first, but I am still in love with her. “But did I make the wrong decision?”
“I’LL KILL YA, AHAHAHAHA! YOU’LL PAY FOR MY OWN SUFFERING HERE,  MONSTRU! AHAHAHAHAHAHA…” The hysterical exclamation faded into the cool air-conditioned air. The detective shuddered, as though a gust of cold wind sliced across his skeletal face. He turned his piece of paper over, and started to draw a dead woman’s face on it, every aspect as detailed as an encyclopaedia. He let go of the pen when the picture became so realistic that it resembled that lady of 29. “Carol… I’ll get your killer… I see to his demise, or at least, I will try…” A small drop appeared, and a wipe from his finger collected the liquid diamond, before it evaporated into the cool and humid air…

The four took out the folder to write in: ‘That small drop is saliva. It means whoever did the horrendous crime probably practises cannibalism.’ They had told their boss earlier, and noted it down in the file later. The forensics laboratory had found that out after a series of tests on men. It wasn’t as easy as it looked, they needed the help of a buxom nurse to get the male humans to give their thing.
Later, a frail and shady character entered the police post, a spray can  gripped in the hand. The chief detective had to talk him out of vandalism, which wasn’t as easy as it sounded.
“Why did you do it? Out of pleasure?” “Yeah, man, like, are you dumb or something?” That touched his nerve, for he was never called dumb, nor was he able to contain everything when no one wanted to console him and listen to his troubles. His palm transformed into a fist, and his lips parted, to reveal pearl-white canine-like teeth clenched, and a wolf-like snarl filled the silent room. “Whoa, easy man…” “Take it easy you mean? Alright…” The lanky man stood up, two pale spider-like hands resting palm-flat on the desk, and words started spilling from his throat. With every statement, the juvenile’s eyes widened, for the truth was harsh: he was going to a boy’s home, for the second time.
“Excuse me, but are you Madam Geraldine Anderson?” “Why, yes, Officer. Can I help you?” She twitched, and looked really awkward, not to mention very nervous. “I’m sorry, but there was a car accident involving your husband this morning, and he had been declared dead upon arrival. Also, your son will be sent to a boy’s home for vandalism.” Something gleamed in her eyes, but a river of water flowed from her beady eyes, then reached down to do up her bandage which had fallen off. A drop of saliva dripped from Ian’s mouth to the floor, the wound somehow enticing. “Oh dear, the cold’s eating up my sanity. Sorry about your floor and leg, Madam Anderson.” “It’s okay, Monstru.” The famed detective of the city walked away, looking at the few dogs trotting along the pavement.  Their ears flattened, then altogether charged at Ian. Having walked to the house since his vehicle was used by his brother’s team, he ran towards the direction of the police headquarters. The maddest thing about the chase-he was much faster than the dogs, and had more stamina.

Lunch time in the station, and the place was like a ghost town, at least for the offices. Most had gone for lunch at their canteens, and only Monstru stayed behind to ponder on the case. But there was an intruding thought…
The image of the gory wound raged in his mind, something about it enthralled him. But there was no reason for that bloodlust. Perhaps he should take a break. But he stayed on, not giving up for anything.  No. not even that mouth-watering sight…

“Kill him, now, dammit! He’s turned into the monster!” “No, he hasn’t. Another did. His name is…”

Edison Jackson came into Ian’s office, holding a wriggling sack, exclaiming, “A small snake has taken residence in the ladies’ bathroom! How’d you do it?” “Caught it from the snake park. We’ve got them!” Edison walked out, smiling, for the plan of pranks on the policewomen had worked.

Jack Hunter came into the station, holding a pack of some white powder while two other officers held a man in a suit. “Drug bust.” “I see.” The receptionist continued with her work, then left Jack to do the usual procedures.
Ian stepped out, holding a small figurine, carved to looked like a dragon. It was a beauty, shining in the late afternoon sun. The sunset pink of the little nick-knack glowed a little, and it reminded him of the ruby and snow colour of that bloody wound… “Will you stop thinking about it?!” He placed the small toy onto the child’s hands, and whispered, “Happy Birthday, Jimmy. Sorry about the late notice. I’ve got to go…” His nephew walked away, to the direction of his mother’s car. She flashed him a gorgeous smile, and drove the Mercedes to the mansion five miles away.
Patrick walked in, his fats bulging in every place. Taking out a pen, he took down something into his personal pocket diary. ‘I hope Ian gets arrested, or something even more horrible. I want him out of here!’ “I see. But God put me here for a reason, didn’t he, dear brother?” Wincing, he tore the page out, and stuffed it into his mouth, before his brother could. “That’s better…” There was something eerie about that voice.

Evening finally arrived, and everyone could go home. It was dirty night, anyway; when no one cleans the station till the next morning. Most fell asleep on the first fall on the pillow.

“Seduce my love, do you? It‘s my turn for REVENGE!” The other man screamed, as the monster transformed before his eyes. “Not you…” “Yes, me…” The wolf-like person’s lips curled hellishly, revealing pointed canines that looked ready to tear him apart. His nails were claws, and the eyes… they completed the sinister aspect by having tiny slit pupils, and scarlet colour that was simply too unnatural. The poised man struck, leaping off the ground like a lion, and pinning him down, with the force of a wild boar on the body. “NOOOOOooooooo…” It was silenced when a horrible crunch of bones was heard, for the vocal cords and spinal cord that joined the spine and skull together were crushed under the pressure greater than what crocodilians use when they close their gaping violin jaws to pull the victim under. All was silent, except for the sound of the dark hunger being satisfied.
