As Eric pulled up into his driveway that evening, he saw Rebecca’s red mustang sitting there. Oh shit, he thought to himself. With all that was going on with Bri, he had totally abandoned his girlfriend. Rebecca was the girl that all the guys in the school wanted to date. She was gorgeous, with her slim, fit body and long blonde hair. Eric was head over hills for her, or at least he had been when they first got together. But for the past month, they had been drifting apart, and Eric was aware of this even though Rebecca would always change the subject when he brought it up. Here lately he had noticed how stuck up she really was, and he was starting to think that maybe they shouldn’t be together. But right now he needed comfort, and he didn’t feel like arguing, so he just got out of his car and walked over to her and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “Hey babe,” he said softly.

“Where the hell have you been?” she exclaimed. “You know that we were supposed to go to dinner with my parents tonight, and what do you do? Just blow it off like it is nothing.”

“I wasn’t just blowing it off, Becca,” Eric said, defending himself. “I went to the hospital to check up on Bri. She’s not doing so well.” “Yeah I heard,” Rebecca replied rudely. Everyone knows about how that little whore tried to runaway, and then got beat up by the guy she was seeing that had just got out of jail.”

“You better shut the fuck up!” Eric exclaimed. “You have no idea what happened to her, and don’t you dare call her a whore! She was a better person than you will ever be!” Rebecca looked at Eric in shock. They had had fights before, but he had never yelled at her like that. “You know what?” she said, “If you think she is so much better than me, why don’t you go be with her. I’m through with your bullshit. You can go be with your little whore now, even though you have probably been fucking her behind my back anyways. We all know how obsessed she was with you.”  Rebecca then turned and started toward her car. As she opened her car door to get in, she shouted at Eric. “You know, she probably won’t ever wake up anyways.” Then she got in and Eric was sure the whole neighborhood heard her tires squealing as she pulled out of his driveway and headed down the road.

Eric couldn’t remember a time when he had ever been so angry. He was mad at the man who put Bri in the hospital, and he was mad at Rebecca for saying those horrible things about Bri. Bri was the total opposite of a whore. In fact, she was still a virgin, where Rebecca had had sex with half the guys on the football team. Wait, Bri wasn’t a virgin anymore; Eric thought to himself, as he felt the anger building up even more. Eric didn’t know who the guy was that had done this to her, but he was pretty sure that if he ever found him, he would probably kill him, or at least hurt him to where he would never walk again.

The next week went by pretty fast for Eric. At school, he didn’t really socialize with anyone. The only time he really talked was when someone would ask about Bri, and then the most he would reply is, “She’s the same.” As soon as he would get out of school, he would go to the hospital to spend the afternoon with Bri. He felt like maybe his being there would help her to hang in there. Maybe she knew that he was there, and it would somehow help give her the strength to make it through all this and wake up. And everyday that he sat by her side, he would look at her and be in awe at how beautiful she was. He felt like such a jerk for never telling her how he felt before. But he had made up his mind that as soon as she awoke he would let her know how he truly felt, even though he let her know everyday.

After about a week and a half of Bri being in the hospital, Eric got a call from Matt late one night. “She’s waking up!” Matt exclaimed. “I’ll be right there.” Eric replied, and as he threw on some clothes, he couldn’t help feeling a little bit of excitement, along with worry. “What if she doesn’t remember me?” he thought to himself as he got in his car and peeled out towards the hospital.
