Chapter 2

The Birth of a King

Many years pass as Bwalin awaits the baby king. Night falls on the mountain, and as a storm passes through the clouds Bwalin falls fast asleep. In his sleep he dreams of a king magnificent and glorious, born from a dieing mother and lumberjack father, he hears a name that as soon as it echoes in his mind he knows he is the chosen king. The first king of the city of Spearington. His name is Brogan, son of Brogith the lumberjack. His dream continues and he sees Brogan becoming strong and mighty, and king above all. He leads an army to a battle, but not against Drakens, no he dreams of the king fighting Goblins and Orcs. Bwalin awakes from his slumber, not worried from his dream, but enlightened, he has found the king. He doesn’t worry about the Goblin and Orc alliance, because it is very unlikely the pair would fight together. Bwalin decides to travel once again to Spearington so he may find this Brogan child and raise him to be a king. Bwalin makes his way on the path to the city where he finds two men out for a mid day fishing, and as he passes them they stop him,

“ He old man I think you’re going the wrong way, the Elves live east of here” one chuckles

“ Hey, yeah, you’ll find no one interested in your tall tales around here old man” the other says

“ Young men, I’m not interested in you or any thing you have to say, unless you can tell me how to find Brogith in the city” Bwalin replies

“ Oh well, you’re not just a drifter then?” one asks

“ No my name is Bwalin, I’m a wizard from the mountain, I come with a tale, yes, but not a tale that concerns you as of the moment, unless you could escort me to Spearington to find a child of Brogith the lumberjack if that be the case then you are welcome to hear all that I have to say” Bwalin replies

“ Forget that, I don’t think so old fool, sorry I don’t trust crazy old men” one replies

“ I’ll go Mr. Bwalin, I’ve got a weird feeling you mean good for man” the other says

As the two continued down the path, Bwalin told the tale of how the city of Spearington was holding a king as they walked at that very moment. The young man was a ranger not a fisherman, his name was Glade, he was traveling across the world to gather a better understanding of the races. They continued walking the long path to Spearington and Glade told Bwalin about traveling to the white forest and the green forest making friends with all the Elves and then making the dangerous journey to the highlands to visit the Dwarves, and he even went on to say he traveled to the Golden City where he met a Draken female child, named Cahara, after the great ocean beyond the border of Spearington. Bwalin never mentioned the Draken threat throughout the course of the journey, he only noted that a war was brewing, in case he was wrong Bwalin had grown old and he could have been imagining this whole bewaring feeling. Bwalin asked him if was ever going to settle in one location after his travels. Glade simply replied yes, but not in Spearington. Bwalin told of how the king will unify all the races in a future war and that Glade would make a great general in the Human army, but unfortunatly for Bwalin, Glade disapproved of the notion of such a major war.

“ Not that I doubt you Bwalin, but I can’t see myself wanting such a fight, say if do settle down back home I wouldn’t want to leave for a war I didn’t believe in so once again I’m sorry” Glade said

“ You’re a great man as far as I know you, and so far you’re the first I’ve met in such a long time, way back since the council of old have I met one such as your self, and I wouldn’t want to burden you anymore than having to walk a foolish old man to a foolish city, where I’m bound to make a foolish decision” Bwalin replied

“ Wait…you were on the great council in the time past?” he asked

“ I was, lets not speak of such tragedies” Bwalin said

“ Very well, Bwalin you’re a very honest old man, I wouldn’t go as far as to say foolish, but a dreamer of sorts definitely, well here we are Spearington, I wish you luck on your journey through” Glade said

“ I wish you the best as well my young friend, and I thank you” he said his goodbyes

Though his journey continued through the city to find Brogan, little did he know just how important the young man Glade would prove to be. Bwalin walked through the town square asking everybody he ran into where he could find the home of Brogith. Until finally he met a man who pointed him in the right direction. Bwalin saw a stream that led right into a small log cabin surrounded by trees, a little garden in the back that seemed un attended for some time. A small picket fence went around the house, the fence had been broken and he noticed that the door had been forced open. He walked up to the fence and saw no fire in the fireplace, just smoke traveling up the chimney. Next he seen blood all over the floor as if the cabin served as a butcher shop. Bwalin couldn’t help but to sit down and put his head right into his hands as soon as a single tear came from his old eye he heard a faint cry from outside, it must have been a baby he thought, it sounded like a baby, maybe all hope was not lost. Bwalin steeped out he door and turned to a bush around the house to find a baby trapped in the wool he was covered in inside the bush. On the side of the cabin hidden from the northern sight, he saw Brogith lying on the ground dead. Bwalin took the baby and started back to town. When he arrived in the square he laid the baby down on a coat of wool on a stage and called all who lived in Spearington to attend the square, and to gather around this stage. When none would listen, Bwalin’s eyes rolled back and lightning struck the ground around him, young Brogan began to cry and so Bwalin comforted him and spoke once again, this time around everyone in the square listened.

“ Tell me good citizens of Spearington, have you ever wondered why in this city there is a castle unattended, locked before you, have you ever wondered why none of you possess the key” he said

Then Bwalin reached into his cloak and proceeded to pull out a silver key, and as the people watched him place the key into the lock behind him and see that the lock cam off they all stood still and spoke not a word.

“ Yes good people I have come before you baring the key to your kingdom, and yes Spearington will hence forth be no longer just the capitol of this world, but a stronghold for the just and the powerful, a city where you will all be equal under one banner the banner of the king, and I have brought to you a king, child now but soon he will grow into your strong and powerful leader, and until then I will guide him through his up bringing and his training to be your king, long has Spearington been the victim of the hordes of goblins and orcs, and the mockery of the Dwarves and the Elves, but on this day the Human kind will be equal and also unify under one king, King Brogan, follow him help me follow him and guide him through our darkest times and he will repay the favor to make you all his brothers and sisters and mothers and fathers for he has no family, help him to be king and to be your family!” Bwalin finished

When he was done, men from the Spearington guard came forth to swear their undying commitment to their new king. The women of the city all vowed to share in taking care of the child and everyone vowed in helping Bwalin raise a warrior, a knight, a man and above all a King!
