In the middle of the night, everything looked gloomier, The curtains were curling on the wind, and clouds were covering the moon.  Suddenly Anna awoke, hearing what sounded like doors and windows locking, she looked around her room and as she rubbed her tired eyes she saw it. The strange eerie shimmer creeping under the door and crawling towards her, little more than an inch from the ground, until it reached the foot of her bed, where it rose, taking the form of a gigantic, snarling bulldog. Its eyes glinting in the now-showing moonlight and blood red flank heaving in time with what- for any living creature- would have been breathing. The beast bared its teeth, saliva dripping from them, and leaned in closer like an angry lion. Anna was petrified; her scream was little more than a croak- it seemed her voice had left with the dog’s arrival.  Then, just as suddenly as it had arrived, the dog disappeared as if it had been a dream. Anna just sat there, huddled under her quilt trying to calm herself down and convince herself she was awake, a thousand questions racing through her head.
She tried to go back to sleep but every time her eyes closed the dog was there, its wild, demonic face plastered in her mind.   In the end she surrendered to just lying there until the night brightened and dawn arrived.
chapter 2    “Anna, come on, its time to get up, your breakfasts ready and school’s calling!”   Groaning, Anna rose from bed, stretched and answered her mothers call. Slipping her uniform on, she grabbed her comb and hurried downstairs, brushing her hair on the way, still unsure of the night’s events.   Pouring herself some orange juice, Anna yawned and ate in silence.“Are you all right Hun? You’re very quiet” her mum inquired.“What, oh yeah, just tired. I didn’t sleep so well,”“Positive?”“Positive” Anna answered.“Certain?” Her mum asked a slight smile on her face.“Mum! ” Anna laughed.“Ok, ok I’ll stop, you better hurry. You’ll be late,” she said, pushing her daughter out of the door.   “So, who lead the Spanish armada? –Just to recap, ok, Anna, can you answer?  ” Mr Raymond asked, before walking up to Anna’s desk, shaking her arm- and his head- slightly and repeating her name, slightly annoyed.“ Huh!?” was Anna’s answer.    The whole class sniggered, as she lifted her head, went crimson, and apologised.   “Well, ok” the teacher responded, accepting her apology, before putting on a less sympathetic tone and adding, “don’t let this happen again.” Reverting back to his laid- back self he carried on with the lesson”  “Class, anyone able to answer… no? Anyone remember the question?”
Another outburst of laughter and smiles, this time Anna joined in.
chapter3  Lying in bed that that night, Anna thought of the dog, shivered slightly and closed her eyes, hoping it wouldn’t return.   Eventually she dozed, finally falling asleep and finding herself comfortably dreaming…   ‘Bang, click, snap’- The now too familiar sound, once again woke Anna up.   With a slight groan Anna sat up, but instead of looking around, her gaze fell straight to the door and stayed there. Nothing came through. Now her gaze drifted to her window, she went to check if it had locked- in case she had been mistaken. She got up, turned her lamp on, and tried the window. Locked. Taking a deep breath, she got back in bed and took another look around.   “Behind you!” remarked a voice, which shouldn’t be there.   Going rigid and gulping, Anna slowly turned around and found her-self facing a very strange man. He was creepy looking, in his top hat and tuxedo, especially with his slightly evil looking smirk, yet strangely, she wasn’t too afraid of this stranger, - even though only half his body was in her room. She thought he had an almost kind and honest face, like a gentleman almost.   “Excuse me, one moment.” The gentleman spoke while stepping through the wall fully, walking through her and over the bed, and then straightening him-self up.“I am sorry to disturb you, on such a lovely night” he apologised – It was cloudy and dismal-“Oh, you don’t mind dogs do you?”  Anna’s eyes filled with fear as she said it was all right, then added, “what type is it?”   “Don’t worry, he wont hurt you – tonight anyway- I believe you had a run- in with him last night.” The ghost stated.   “That dog is evil! Why do you say he won’t hurt me?” Anna’s eyes grew even wider as she asked this.   “Because, he belongs to me- well I look after him- he actually belongs to Saytaan, or Satan as you probably call him. Last night, he got away from me, it won’t happen again. ” By this time the dog had appeared in her room. But at one command it went and sat at the gentleman’s feet quietly, tongue lolling from the side of its mouth, head cocked and staring at her intently, even ominously, but it made no move.   Noticing her fear, the ghost man inquired “Do you want me to put him on a lead? He can’t get off that. ”    “Please. What do you want anyway?” the last part of this sounded impolite and impatient, by now she had lost all liking of this ‘gentleman’ and didn’t care about sounding pleasant, after all, he said he worked for the devil!    “I only came to apologise, I shouldn’t have let Devil, here, get away from Me. ” the man answered, gesturing to the dog, Anna wasn’t sure whether he as smiling or smirking as he said this- either way, it was creepy.   “Ok, but, leave me alone now, please. All you and your dog are doing is making me exhausted ” She pleaded, before yawning and unintentionally proving her point.

“Oh, that isn’t all I’m doing!” muttered the man.

“What? And who are you anyway?” Asked a now very flustered Anna.   “ Oh, haven’t you figured that out yet?” Stated the stranger, “I have quite a few names actually, my proper title being ‘the devils keeper’, but you probably know me better as ‘the grim reaper’. Either way I’m the one that does the devils dirty work, I am the one that you should fear, I am the one that makes your life …HELL. ” Here he gave the most ominous laugh ever, Anna could imagine the proverbial fire blazing at this, the ‘devils keeper’ stopped laughing and carried on, his eyes hooded, “the devil is actually overblown, obese, fire-mad and intensely lazy. Yet he gets worshipped and feared.” He finished with lethal intent and spite in his voice.    “Sounds like you’re a little jealous. ” This time, it was Anna who was smirking. Now the fire around him was real, except it was black as well as the usual dazzling flame-colours, even his eyes seemed to blaze.   “How dare you imply that I’m jealous, I am not jealous of that obese lump. You are just another worthless soul, another thing for me to clear away. Into the nice pit of Hades, if only it was you I’ve come for tonight. Just you wait; you’ll see me again, sooner… than you wish.  And then my job will be done and that coward of a wanna–be God can do his own dirty work… ” At this he got carried away, muttering to himself, the dog started to join in, grunting and howling along. Anna sighed and placed her head under her pillow, groaning inwards.    Eventually the reaper stopped moaning, and Anna removed her head, she only just managed to stop herself laughing at the sight before her, the grim reaper had stopped blazing and if it had been anyone else, she would have believed he was now sulking. He was crouching in the corner with his head down, his dog was whimpering and nudging him with his nose, trying to figure out what was wrong with the reaper.   “Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you. I was only joking. Please, don’t get upset.” Anna pleaded, immediately feeling bad and ashamed, she hadn’t meant anything by her comment.  The ‘devils keeper’ muttered something to himself before rising, quickly stroking the dog and accepting her apology with a “Yes, well. Water under the bridge now, I must go.”   He released the dog from his lead, straightened himself up, and left, the dog growled once, before following the gentleman promptly through the wall.   “Great, another day of dreaming. I’m glad today’s Saturday! ” Anna stated yawning.

Grumbling about what could possibly happen next, she got dressed.

“Oh, great, ” Anna mumbled, once again yawning.

Slightly confused, asked her mum about something that was now troubling her, “Mum, was the supposed to be an eclipse today?” It was midday and the whole street was crowded together, gaping at the sky. The sun should have been shining, but it wasn’t. Instead the azul blue of the sky and amazing golden sun were both obscured by what looked like a moon and a hellish, creeping cloud scarily similar to that of the dogs fog- although this one was much bigger. Anna ran out to join the spectators hoping someone would tell her what was happening. No one knew.

As the cloud drew closer, the awe left peoples eyes and was replaced by pure terror. The moon, which should have been stationary, was following the cloud centre which had been steadily drawing closer, moon plummeting towards the ground.

Chapter 5

As neighbours ran inside screaming, others came out to see the commotion, only to follow their friends’ footsteps back inside a moment later. Only Anna stayed calm and stayed outside, she was strangely mesmerised by crashing sphere. What was it?     Before this question could even be asked the ball seemed to just fall apart and as it did so each separate piece just disintegrated, or to be more precise, disappeared.  Now Anna really was worried, how could something of that size just disappear like that?  How come she wasn’t scared? And what was that strange light doing up in her room?     ... to be continued...
