“Sarah honey, we're back early the car broke down” my mum shouted up the stairs.

“Oh my god!” I said to Sam.

We both shoved our clothes on quicker than we ever thought possible. I heard my dad walking up the stairs. If he came in now, he would go ballistic. He never lets me and Sam go upstairs on our own and so if he saw him now, I don't know what he'd do.

He was outside my door now. I could hear him. I pushed Sam under my bed, right to the back so that he couldn't be seen.

“Can I come in?” my dad said from the other side of the door.

“Err, ye sure”

He walked in looking very mad. Sitting on my bed he asked me why Sam's jacket was downstairs. I quickly thought of an excuse and explained that I had found it and he must have left it the other day. I'm not sure whether he bought the excuse or not but he went anyway. I now had to think of a way to get Sam out of my house. We lived in a 2 storey house so it wasn't as if he could just go out of the window.

My mum shouted upstairs.

“We've got to go to the supermarket, get some food for tea. It's too late for us to go to the coast now. If the tow truck comes for the car, just give him the keys please.”

“Yes mum”.

They left. In the other car. We didn't take any more chances, I let Sam out of the back door so he could go over the fields back. That was so close. Closer than I ever wanted it to be again. Yet deep down I knew that I had loved every bit before my parents came home, and that if I wanted that again, I'd have to take the risks.
