And since I knew it, I was not grateful when Mr. Swan, the sociology teacher, assigned him as my partner during a project. I think he knew how much I didn't want to be with him. Thanks Mr. Swan.

So, I turned around in my seat to face my fate. I didn't do it happily, but I did it. I glared at him balefully, hoping to . . .  I don't know. Hoping for something. He didn't seem to notice my glare and held out his hand.

"I don't believe we've been formally introduced. I'm Dante."

Oh, he had a nice voice. Deep and soft, almost like dark chocolate. I cursed God for making all around hot guys who were untouchables for lowlies like me.

"Jay," I replied and reluctantly shook his hand. It wasn't hot, or cold, just cool and smooth. Smooth was an essential adjective when describing Dante.

"So, what exactly is this project?" he asked, resting his chin on his hand and looking at me throught his glasses and dark bangs. As you can imagine, having a gorgeous guy this close to me did nothing for my thought process. But I wa fairly proud of my self when I managed an intelligent answer.

"We're doing a study of religions. Each group is assigned a religion and we study it and then present our findings to the class," I shrugged. "Not that bad."

"So what am I supposed to do?" he asked, straightening up some.

I shrugged again. I assumed he'd play solitaire while I did the research and wrote the paper. That's what the guys I knew usually did. It didn't bother me much because I generally worked better alone, I had lots of practice. And working with someone? Not so much.

Thankfull, the bell rang about two seconds later and I escaped to the library. I no longer even tried to brave the cafeteria, it took too much acting, and I wasn't good at it. The cafeteria was like a test you had to pass if you wanted to fit in somewhere, and I didn't. And I knew it, so I no longer tried.

I waved hello to the librarian as I strolled through the double doors to my customary seat in the corner. It was a comfy little loveseat and I settled into it and pulled my latest book from my messenger bag. It was called Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, and it was frigging awesome. I loved it.

Unfortunatley, my reading was interrupted when someone sat down next to me on the loveseat. I glanced up, and my eyes went wide in suprise.

What the crap was he doing here?????
