Attack of the Gremlins

Attack of the Gremlins

Fiction Created on 9-16-06 Views(85) Story Rating G

I lay beneath my heavy quilt; beads of perspiration trickling down my forehead. Paranoia taking over my body and mind the miniature green gremlins that lurk beneath my bed begin to congregate in one isolated corner next to the cobwebs and cookie crumbs. Then suddenly an ear-shattering squeal sounds out above the noises of the night. I go into hysterics, the panic controlling my every move. I pull my legs closer to my body, gently rocking myself back and forth. I shiver feeling a sudden burst of air on my bare legs sticking out of the thin nightgown that I wore to bed that night. I scream as loud as I can, realizing that my blanket is gone, exposing me to the evil creatures under my bed. My cries for help fall to deaf ears, soon fading into the darkness of the night. Warm tears streaming down my face as I sit there terrified not knowing what to do. Scrambling up to my feet with a sudden newfound confidence I yell to the gremlins "Come Out! I know you're down there!" I try to sound confident, and courageous, but do not succeed. The gremlins sense my fear and merely laugh at the sound of my trying to stand up for myself. Their taunting laughter echoes from under the bed and surfaces out into the night. As the laughter bounces off one wall and onto the next chills go up my spine and goose bumps form on my arms. I feel a warm hissing on the back of my neck causing the hairs to stand on end. I spot the lead gremlin pulling back his arms preparing to swing a spiked club at me. I roll off my bed just in time, swiftly running out of the bedroom door. I run down the hall trying to ignore the creepy shadows that lurk on the walls. I quickly turn the corner and slide down the banister, taking care not to slip off. When I reach the last four steps I jump off the banister and jump over the railing, safely landing on the couch. I scramble to my feet and run into the kitchen looking for a knife of some sort to use as a weapon. I find the perfect thing, a freshly sharpened butcher knife with serrated edges and a firm grip. I quickly grab the knife and get into position to fight, making sure that I am surrounded on three sides so that the gremlins cannot sneak up on me.  With in seconds I hear the gremlins stomping down the steps two at a time. My heart rate speeds up, I can feel the strong beating against my ribs. Then I see them the end has come. The troop of gremlins lines up in orderly fashion preparing for a long serious battle. I try to figure out a strategy, but fail to find one. There's no way for one person to defeat what appeared to be at least thirty or more gremlins. coming up with a solution, I calmly stand there, awaiting my death, Ignoring the pain and blood as the knifehits my skin, not even flinching or letting one single tear escape. The gremlins stare in awe as my hand starts slowly losing grip on the knife, and I take my last and  final breath.
