The river trip from HELL

The river trip from HELL

NonFiction Created on 8-27-07 Views(34) Story Rating G

Okay so me and my boyfriend and our three kids head out to the Verde river for a day. we met a friend there and proceed to have fun for a couple of hours. No big deal right? on our way out, 3pm on Sunday we proceed down the same road we came in on. Rob, sticks my Expedition into 4-low and we proceed through the same mud pit we already came through that morning. halfway through the vechile slides to the right and slides into the deepest part of the mud. it sunk... :-(

By 7pm and four pull out attempts later we are still stuck and our attempts have made it worse. Our last hope for the night shows up around 9pm. In order to get success we begin digging out the bottom of the vechile because by this time, the axles and the frame are buried 10 inches in the mud. A friend, who shall be named Tyler, is on the drivers side of the vehicle digging away when he loses his footing and falls into the drivers side door. We find out that this vehicle can be locked on the outsied by pressing against the key pad. yep you guessed it, our keys were on the seat and now the vehicle is very secure. At this point I am really mad, the kids are scared of the coyotes and no one has eaten or had anything to drink. Chris, the friend we met there, is having a heat stroke so i take him, my kids and chris's truck back to our house the back way out of this place. i can't leave out that his radiator hose blew up on the way out of this place...by the way, I leave Rob and Tyler there.

An hour later we arrive at my house where Chris's dad comes to take him to the hospital. Its now 11pm at night. His truck is dead, i find the remote to my truck and begin making phone calls. As you can imagine, no one wants to help this late at night. rob walks in the door and says the truck is still there (80 miles away) and Tyler had to get home because he had to be up at 4am. we are now left with Rob's non 4x4 and his quad. Its at this point that we realise that Rob's keys are also in my expedition so we atempt for AN HOUR to get into his truck. Finally after breaking the back window...we get in his truck. getting ready to hook onto his quad trailor we realise that the key to the gate, the trailor and his quad are ...yep in my truck. exremely tired and pissed off we decide to head back there anyways and walk back to the truck.

Around 3am we arrive as far as we can go towars the truck. heading out on foot we walk down the mountain with flash lights until we reach the dirty truck. Too tired to dig much more we get the keys out, secure it and walk back to his truck. We then head to his mom's house to pick up her car because i have to have mu kids to my ex husbands house by 7am. arriving back to our house its now 6am. we get the kids up, dressed etc and take them to my ex husband who finds our events funny. (i could have smacked him!) after dropping them off we head back to his mom's to drop her car off and then pick up his truck. now that we have all the keys we need we head back to my house and load up the quad and head back to the river.

Its now 9 am and we reach my truck by quad. its a disgusting mess buried in 10 inches of the stinkiest mud you will ever smell. the flies and mosquitos are thick and my patience is NOTHING! we dig more out...at 6pm our help finally arrives!!!

Gump and Mike bring their HD's and a winch. It took both of these monstor vehicles and the winch power to finally move my truck.  yeah!!!

The clean-up...

Danny's car wash 2x

Independant car wash 3x

tires removed to clean out mud.

engine cleaning and power washed underside

Just as a FYI- On the ford expeditition the 4x4 is under the same fuse as the air. our air conditioning motor went out three days after we got it out of the mud.
