Joe looked like he was going to take a gun out at any time and shoot me with it. My mom didn't do anything to help me, she stood their like she was glued to the floor. I tried to push myself up with my arms, but fell back down. "What are you doin' down here?" asked Joe. I didn't even answer him.

"I need to talk to you about something," said my mom. But she wasn't my mom. She was a female, that gave birth to me, and calls me her child. She doesn't act like it. I'll call her Kate, that's her name.

She pulled him by his arm and they walked to her room. He looked back at me and mouthed something. It looked like he said, "Tonight" And I mouthed back to him, "I hate you!" He laughed silently...

I heard yelling. Was she talking about what he did to me? I crept to the door and put my ear to it. It was cold. "Don't you ever come up to me and say I did something like that!" said the manlier voice. I heard a thump against the wall. I knew they were talking about me. I just had that feeling in my heart they were.

"Stop it Joe, please." said my Kate quietly. (If you forgot who Kate is, that's my "mother") She was speaking like a 3 year old to Joe, but she could slap me around all the time. I started to heat up like an oven. My eyes started to water up and I was about to cry.

I wasn't going to cry, I cried all the time, and it's a sign of weakness. But sometimes we all need to cry. I ran up to my room and I heard the door burst open. He was beating on Kate and I know he is. I took out my suitcase and put all my clothes in it, it was easy to fit them in there.

All I had was a pair of sneaker, a few pairs of pants, and about 2-3 shirts. I wonder how I got around all this time with that small amount of clothes. I looked out the window, and it was pretty bright. I must have been knocked out for a long time. I grabbed a picture of my older sister, Ana, she ran away a couple of years ago. I wonder where she is now.

I got my biggest jacket and crept down stairs. I made sure I wasn't making a lot of noise. But it was like I gained weight because I was making a lot of noise. I looked around and saw Kate's bedroom door open. She was slumped down in a corner with a black eye and her mouth was bleeding.

I dropped my suitcase and picked it back up, then I ran towards her. When I did, it was like there was some force holding me back. So I went to the back of the house where my older sister Ana used to sleep. I went into her bedroom, and it smelled like the perfume she used to wear.

I wonder if she's dead, or alive somewhere, maybe living a better life than me. The bed was neatly folded, like she had never rested on it. I sat down on it, remembering the times we had together. Slowly, I inhaled and exhaled. Letting all of the memories flow through my head. She would be 18 now, or maybe she is 18. I feel like she's dead.

I still love her no matter what. I picked up my suitcase and slowly walked out the back door, I looked over my shoulder. Maybe I can escape from this place, and start a new life.

Yeah, sure. A 14 year old running away from her non-caring mother aka Kate, and her step-father that raped her. I can't survive out in this world by myself. Even if I do need Kate, it's better than dying. I looked back again. Should I go back, or run away...
