Chapter 1: First Day of High School

Chapter 1: First Day of High School

Other Created on 8-2-07 Views(191) Story Rating G

It all started the first day of my freshmen year.  It was a normal and uninteresting day until I woke up late.  I jumped out of bed, threw clothes over me, packed my book bag, and headed downstairs.  When I got there everything looked the same; my brother was still asleep, my mom made pop-tarts, my lunch was sitting on the kitchen counter, and my dad was nowhere to be seen. Big surprise there.

My dad hasn’t been around since I was two and I vaguely remember him.  My mom says that he died but I know differently for three reasons. One: we never go to visit his grave. Two: whenever I ask what happened to him my mom would yell at me and send me to my room. Three: I can remember my dad saying “When it’s your first day of high school I will come and see you and give you something special. Good-bye, for now, my son and I love you.”  I have never told anybody the third reason or what my father told me but I always have known that he did not die and that he was going to visit me on my first day of high school…  Wait that meant he was coming to see me… TODAY!

I got to school on time but didn’t see my father anywhere and I was positive that I would recognize him on the spot.  Instead I was greeted by the usual people. The first of which was my crush, Rachel.  I met her in kindergarten, we instantly became friends, and I have liked her ever since.  She’s extremely shy and its hard to get her to open up to you but when she does everything you do with her just seems right.  We walked over to the locker we shared and grabbed our books; when Rachel’s older brother and my best friend, Drew came over to us.  Drew is always having to go someplace to meditate or do yoga or whatever else it is he does so some people call him a flake but he’s a really good friend.

At lunch the three of us were joined by Matt, Nick and Sammy.  Matt is a greedy little gitt who is always trying to better himself no matter who get’s hurt in the process.  We don’t even hang out with him but he always is around us. Matt is a muscle head to every meaning of the word.  I always help him with his homework but he’s getting better at it.  Sammy is a complete bitch though, but I have to be nice to her because she’s one of Rachel’s best friends and she is also Nick’s girlfriend.  Sammy is also a good athlete and is phenomenal in first aid and health.  Personally I don’t see how we need her around considering she always has a bad attitude and she is extremely lazy.

My train of thought was broken when Drew asked “Hey, Kevin, do you think we could all come over to your house after school?”

“Sure, why do you even need to ask?”

“Well, Mom’s being kinda mad at us for always going over to your house without asking.”

“Wow, why is she being so rough on you guy’s?”

“With Dad’s new job at the observatory she feels like she has to know exactly where we are at all times.” Rachel chimed in.

            BBBRRRIIINNNGGG!!!!!

“Well there’s the bell See you after school then, Kevin” Nick said.

AFTER SCHOOL AT MY HOUSE

“So what’s your dad’s new job like at the observatory?” I asked.

“I don’t know we haven’t seen him since he got the job a month ago.” Rachel replied.

“What do you mean you haven’t seen him for a month?”

“He lives at the observatory now so that he can work anytime and not have to worry about if he will be late and stuff like that?”

“No offense but that sounds like complete bullshit!”

“Yea I know and that’s why mom won’t let us go anywhere.”

            “How do you get that?”

“She’s not letting us go anywhere because she feels that we won’t come back to her and that we’ll run of like my dad did.”

“Wow so you can’t talk to your dad at all?”

“No he could talk to us by phone or email he just chooses not to.”

“Wow no wonders your mom is mad at him. I mean he wont even talk to his wife let only his two kids.”

It was about 10 o’clock when we decided to just go outside and hang out.

“Look a shooting star, how beautiful.” Sammy said while leaning her head in Nick’s lap.

“Wait is it just me or is that getting bigger?” I murmured.

Everyone nodded in agreement. We tried to run but our feet were cemented to the ground. We tried to scream but our tongues were glued to the roofs of our mouth. All we could do was stand there looking around at each other knowing that we were going to die. I wanted so badly to tell Rach I love her and I couldn’t stand not confessing it before I die. I tried so hard to move my mouth and I started to cry with frustration. The meteor was getting bigger. I have got to tell her I love her. I can’t die without telling her. I CAN’T. I WON’T…
