The Beginning... |

Late Night Decisions
|
The junkyard had always been dirty. It was a natural state of events. Old, twisted, rusty vehicles lying sprawled across the fenced in junkyard, like skeletons, only a shadow of their former glory. Used candy wrappers, tin cans, bottles, were strung about the area, all things typically found in a junkyard. Lying on the ground in between an old sorry looking wooden and canvas chair and a torn and decaying recliner, the decaying corpse of a young orange striped cat lay stiff in a black trash bag, twist tied in a vain attempt to hold back the stench of death.
Two figures, more heard than seen in the darkness, crept slowly through the refuse. The taller one grasped a pin light in his hand. The new moon created a sense of seriousness not usually seen in the two boys and the light, though small, seemed far too conspicuous for their clandestine operation.
“There’s the bag over there.” Whispered one of the boys.
“Are you sure we should do this?” The other asked nervously.
“You’re not gonna back out now, are you?”
“No. But let’s hurry.”
“Here’s the bag, now pick it up quick.”
The younger boy reached down to retrieve the black bag, and he nearly gagged with the stench. Suddenly, out of the darkness they heard a low growl. Two glowing eyes appeared out of the black of night.
The animal lunged towards them, his muzzle turned up and his teeth bared.
The younger boy holding the black bag stood completely still. His lungs seemed to give out on him; he was no longer capable of breathing. The scene played out in slow motion in his mind, and he couldn’t seem to tear his gaze from the beast.
By now the older boy was screaming. “Give me the bag! Give it to me you stupid kid, or I’ll leave you alone with the dog.” He tried to pry the bag from his fingers, but he seemed to be in a death grip. He gripped a piece of the plastic and began to yank it away from him. The plastic began to tear, releasing more odors from the widening opening.
The snarling dog ran closer. The younger boy noticed abstractly that its fur was jet black. Foam wreathed its mouth, and he wondered if the jaw was strong enough to break bones. Lost in his terror, his mind had switched off all sense of rationale, leaving the boy with pallid observations.
Just as the dog reached the boys, the bag tore completely open and a stiff lump dropped from the bag. The animal tore into it, tearing it to shreds. The two boys stood dumfounded in silence. In this manner, the issue was decided.

hmm. this is so different.
great job, there's a lot of creativity in this! I could've never come up with something like that for an essay/story thing. |

This is from an assingment I had to do. I had to write a story one page long that ended with the words, "in this manner, the issue was decided." Please rate and tell me what you think about it. Feel free to critique. I'm always looking for a way to better my writing. :) |
