Chapter 4
France May 4th 1831,
It was spring, and Derrick barely saw Rosette anymore, so it was to his great surprise to see her outside. She stood a good distance away in her lacy white dress covering every inch of her body, lace gloves, and a white parcel shading her face. Someone, another young women, accompanied her, she was in a large brown dress with a brown sateen parcel as well covering her face. Even from the distance he could tell who she was, a flutter of shock went threw him, he knew who she was. The two exchanged goodbyes and Rosette walked over, glowing in the sunlight. The women in brown disappeared over the bridge. Rosette walked closer and was in front of him.
“Good day my lady Devlin.” He said.
“Good day to you as well sir.” She said under her shade.
“If I may asked my lady who was that?” he asked.
“That was one of my closest fiends, Simone de Adel, do you know of her?” she asked.
“I, I know she’s a vampire.” He said in a matter of fact tone. There was a small shift under her shade; she seemed angered in a sad way.
“Silly superstitions,” she said angrily, “and so what if she was? What would you do, what would you do if anyone you knew was a vampire,” she said the word in a mocking voice. Then she huffed, in a defatted action, and ran in the doors leavening him baffled in her dust, she closed the door and walked threw the dark halls. That was the first time the idea crossed his mind, could Rosette truly be…
Sara and the others were hiding behind a crude shelter consisting of a hill of dirt, discarded bags of potting soil and cement blocks. Sara was terrified. Lilly Ana was only glad Girard was safe with the others. All she could do was shout angrily at the officer in feeble attempts to stop his attacks.
“Officer stand down these people have started a compromise and I intend to see it threw to its full completion it is the policy that any vampire who seeks the cooperation of our work will be protected they are under my jurisdiction.” She yelled as loud as she could stare at the face of the officer.
“Look Miss. Get the hell out of here before you get hurt. Your compromise imminently disqualifies if the group is found with reds.” He said that and I gasped.
“They are not reds I assure you.” I yelled.
“Pleas stop this,” screamed Sara she stepped out and the general stopped his men from firing, they all held their guns up still fully capable of shooting once commanded to.
“Pleas speaking for my fiends as well, pleas we surrender and wish to mealy speak with you and the corporation, with miss. Joliet as our voice, pleas I beg of you,” she asked with her hands up, and a smile.
“You expect us to just…”the general growled. Then a voice interrupted.
“Oh come on Sara why are you surrendering to these worthless bustards?” asked a cruelly familiar voice.
“What?” hissed Sara as Jacob came from the shadowy inside of the house?
“You can’t really think we need to undergo to these humans, we could rip their throats out if we wanted to, they should be compromising with us.” He said sneering. But there was something different about him. He stepped further, and then 4 more vampires I had never seen before followed him. They all had glowing red eyes surrounded by black, as did Jacob. They were really,
“What the hell… kill her now!” three of them leapt towards the fast moving blur that had just leapt into the courtyard. Still when they had not even laid a hand on it, they were all sliced in half. They screamed as the silver sword sailed threw the air. Holding the silver sword, I landed on the ground in between the general his men and Lilly, and the reds.
“Well, look who escaped, I didn’t expect anything less of the great phantom slayer,” Jacob said in a voice that agitated me, I grounded a bit at the sound of the name.
“What?” Lilly Ana’s voice shouted.
“The, the slayer,” the general mumbled.
“Were is my brother?” I demanded.
“Hasty hasty don’t you want to just talk a bit first get to know each other before you ask questions.” He said mockingly. I charged at him, my sword held high, then as I brought it down on him, a face appeared that stopped me dead in my tracks, Girard had been placed in the path of my blade. I quickly withdrew. Glowering from under my hat.
“Looks like the brat proved useful after all.” He said. I thrust my head up; my sword lifted and sliced right threw his neck. There was a horrible scream and black smoke formed a cloud around him. Still his body didn’t go down, his arm still held Girard. Jacob finally stepped out from the slowly denigrating cloud. I herd Lilly Ana scream under her breath. He was standing upright with Girard under one arm, and his head in his other hand.
“Damn you,” he said angrily. Then the eyes on his disembodied head flashed cobalt blue. In a spit second my body had hurled into the wall of the building. I fell to the ground against the wall and the huge carton I had formed. Lilly Ana had quickly rushed to my side.
“Rosette!” she cried.
“I’m fine.” I said low and rasped.
“Beth take the brat,” said his head to one of the reds tossing Girard to her. He lifted his head to his neck and began twisting it, unleashing horrible tearing noises. Soon his skin had reformed over his neck.
“Your half dead as it is, look me up when you’re a real challenge.” He said. Then him and the rest of them were leaping out of the court year. The officers began their earth shaking bullet rain again.
“NO stop, you’ll his Girard.” I screamed but no one listened. Quickly I leapt to my feet and ran between the bullets and the reds leavening my sword with Lilly Ana on the ground. I closed my eyes and before a single bullet had hit me, my body felt weightless and I thrust my hands out to my sides. A Cobalt blue haze filled the yard and every bullet stopped in an invisible wall in front of me. I let them fall to the ground. Letting a few launch back and jam the guns that were not out of ammunition. Jacob let out a medical cackle, his voice coming from nowhere.
“Well thank you for your assistance slayer we are very appreciative.” With that I fell to my knees gasping for air. Falling on all fours I desperately tried to stand up. Finally in the midst of shouts and screams I finally lost conscious.
