“Whywouldn’t my sister save you?” Girard asked curiously but with a smile on hisface.
“Well your… you two are…” she struggled to say what I knew she wanted to say,yet I knew how she couldn’t looking at his sparkling face.
“Girard, will you come here for a moment, I asked. He hurried over to my side and lookedup at me.
“Girard, remember what we talked about, about how the world out here is very different,”I said caringly, placing my hand on his back. He nodded excitedly. Then heunder stood remembering.
“Ohyou mean she thinks we’re bad people, bad vampires.” He said in his kid likevoice, holding his index finger to his mouth. He looked over at her.
“No,I didn’t, I mean I don’t well I did but now,” she stopped at the sight of mycrooked eyebrows in annoyed puzzlement. She shied and her face strengthened up.“Do you have a name?” she asked with a defeated look on her face, though Ididn’t know what for.
“ItsRose,” I said shortly, “and this is Girard, you can call him Rob.” She had comecloser to us, and bent down on one knee to Girard’s level.
“Robhau? That’s an intresting name.” she said smileing. “don’t worry I don’t thinkyour bad.” She said.
“andWhat was your name?” I asked scepticaly.
“Myname is Lilly Ana Joliet,”she said extending her hand, I looked at it, with nointention of shakeing it. Still Girard reached out with both hands and shook itviolently.
“niceto meet you Lily Ana,” I said bowing my head slightly.
“Yeahnice to meet you Lilly,” He said.
“nowlet me explane pleas. First off I am sorry for my false assumptions it was notfair of me to make that snap decision. I saw what you did to the ship on thedocks, and well, that’s were it came from.” She said. I had to admit I wassupprised to hear her talking to us in such a manner. She was ready to go onbut I stopped her.
“Girardwhy don’t you go play for a minute just until were ready to go.” I said in thewarm voie I talked to him in, just to make suer that I didn’t scar him.
“oksister.” he ran off, and Lilly Ana began again.
“likeI said I am sorry and thank you, for saveing me.” She said.
“yourwelcom,” I said ,yet my voice still sounded cold. She could tell I didn’t meanit. Then again she knew she couldn’t blame me.
“lookI knew with what you’ve seen you have no reason to beleve me, I may be with thesame company as my colliges but I assure you I am in a completely differentfield of work, though I do not understand many of the ways you and you specesare I have no descrimanation for you kind.” She said.
“really, well in that case I have no reason to hold a grudge against you,” I said stillnot completely coninced, I glanced over to the colorful play ground full oftunnels and slids that make small children leap with exitment. I saw Girard laying on the ground at thebace of the play ground. Grinning a small grin then walking over to lift himoff the sandy ground I lay him on one of the benches. I stood and Lilly Anastood next to me.
“sotell me Miss. Joliet was it, what is you line of work if I may ask.” I said. She looked up at me.
“myjobis not that of a suppression officer, I work a a peac maker, well more likea transfer af messeges who agrees nor disagrees with neather side. I try tounder stand both humans and Vampiers. Then put in the word for both sides tobetter the company and our companions.” She said. I listened diligently butherd many flaws in her flawless perception.
“wellthat’s intresting.” I said closeing my eyes.
“whyare the two of you hear, if you mean us no harm?” she asked. I didn’t answer, conserving personal information was always one of my stong siutes.
“well,if you ever need anything as a representitive of the Unitty Corp. pleas contactme,” she said somewhat despretly. I smiled at her smally, lifting Girard intomy arms.
“Thankyou, I’m not sure if we will meet again so if we don’t farwell.” I said thenwalked off under the ornge street lamps. I called over my shoulder.
“youstay out of trobble now, I wount be there to catch you next time.” I saidleaveing her and walking away letting my own problems once again flood me. Shewatched me go, and for the first time in a long time I woundered if I wouldever see that human again.
Girardstill a sleep in my arms, I was lucky enough to find a motel on the out skirtsof the city. I lay Girard sleeping in the bed and pulled the white covers overhim. I smiled at his sleeping face. The night had exausted him I knew, best tolet him sleep, but by the morning he would be filled to the rim with jumpingenergy.
Overin the corner there was a wicker arm chair, I removed my red trench, and took off my black hat.Under my tight black vest was over back pants and boots. I hung my coat and hatand let my long stright red hair fall to my elbows. I crossed my leggs and layback in the chair placeing my hat over my face. Like Girard sleep quickly foundme.
