I dove as fast as my Subaru would go down the road following the ambulances that held my 5 year old son Peter and my husband Matt. They had gotten hit when we were driving to the zoo. I had insisted on taking different cars because I had work at 2 and it was 1 then. I was one car behind them when it happened. The light turned green an they started to go when a tractor tailor that had lost its brakes right into them. It was horrifying and I couldn't help but wish it was me in the ambulance.

The road was very twisty and I was afraid to drive to fast but I had to keep up with the ambulance.The speedometer crawled up to 80 mph and the road was still very twisty.  I was coming up on a really deep curve and started to slow down.  The ambulance slowed down only a little bit and went around the curve with ease and disappeared on the other side of it. I started to panic and decided that I should speed up again to catch up to the ambulance. 

The speedometer crawled back up to 70 right when I came up on the turn. I went around it with only a little trouble but then I was in big troubleWhen I rounded the curve right after it was another curve with an open cliff on the long side. I slammed on my brakes and turned my wheel as far as I could to try to go around the turn, but I was too late.

M y car swerved and launched off the cliff into the open air. It dropped out of the sky and plummeted to the ground it landed sideways and the car started rolling down the hill. I was wearing a seatbelt so I didn't roll around in the car. 

Each roll the car took smashed the roof closer to my head. I knew that I had to somehow stop the car from rolling so when the car slowed down a bit I grabbed the wheel and turned it as hard as I could. When the wheels came back to the earth the car started to turn. After a few rolls it was facing forward again and still rolling but slower now. The car then stopped rolling and was right side up still sliding down the steep hill.

I finally opened my eyes and I was sorry I did. The car rolled right into a tree branch that I felt go through me.The car finally came to a complete stop. I looked down at my chest where the branch had impaled me. It had gone right through my abdomen.From some classes I took in collage about the human body, I knew it had gone through my liver and that I would  long to live.

I hoped that Matt and Peter had gotten to the hospital safely and I knew I had to tell them that I loved them.  I grabbed a paper that had landed beside me and put it on my lap. I could only think of one thing that i could write with so I dabbed my finger under my wound and got some bllod on my finger and started to write. I wrote "I love you Peter and I love you Matt." I folded it once and stuck it beside me. 

I started to feel really tired an knew that I had lost a lot of blood.  I wanted the pain to end. To keep me from going crazy in my last few minutes I thought of Matt and Peter. How they would feel without me. I started to get frantic thinking that Peter will never be the same again. I quickly pushed the thought out of my mind and thought of Peter playing. I remembered how Matt would toss a ball to him and Peter would hit it. I always said he would become a baseball player because he hit the ball every time.

I suddenly felt numb and the pain went away. I felt very calm and knew the time had come. I slowly closed my eyes and saw a picture in my head of me,Matt, and Peter. I smiled and drifted into a deep sleep that I would never wake up from.
