In Your Dreams [11]

Trisha wandered around aimlessly in the church's library. She liked being down there, it was quiet and peaceful. Being surrounded by books that gave her hope helped her escape from reality. As she went around the corner of a shelf, she noticed the Reverend reading a large, old book. Trisha peeked around a corner, careful not to bother the Reverend. Reverend James had a stern, worried, and concentrated look on his face. After a few minutes of skimming through the pages, he pounded his fists on the table in frustration and got up and stormed to the wilderness of books. Curiosity called to Trisha. She peeked to make sure the Reverend wasn't looking. She flipped through the book. From what she could make of it, there was the word "Scribe" mentioned a lot. Suddenly, Trisha felt someone touch her shoulder. She gasped and spun around, "Reverend, I'm sorry," she said, "I was just curious what you were reading." Beneath the layers of frustration and the sleepless eyes, Trisha saw the Reverend give a fatherly smile. "It's all right, Trisha," he said, sitting down, motioning for Trisha to sit next to him. "Reverend," Trisha said, "What is this 'scribe' the book keeps mentioning?" James exhaled loudly and brushed his sleepy eyes. "The Scribe," he began, "Is a great evil. It has been a threat to humanity and the Church ever since it first set foot on this Earth. The Scribe itself is intangible. It is a spirit that has been here since the creation of the Earth. No one knows what it is, but many priests believe it is a creation of the Devil himself." Trisha's eyes widened, the hairs on the back of her neck pricked up. "Every generation," James continued, "The Church kills the body harboring The Scribe using an ancient Aztec knife that the Aztecs used to kill Scribes and other abominations. Now, the Scribe walks this Earth once more. And we are trying to find him." Trisha's heart pounded wildly with excitement, "Where is it?" she asked. James looked at her with fearful eyes, "The Scribe is here! In our town! It came to Church yesterday!" James hissed. Trisha's face became pale, "What can I do to help?" she asked. James smiled softly at her, "There's not much you can do," he said, "Just keep your eyes and ears peeled for anything unusual." Trisha smiled and nodded, "Now, off you go," Reverend James said, "It is getting late. You should be running on home." 

I sat in my room, Fluzzie on my lap as I gently scratched his head. I just thought about Trisha. She was all I could think about, her bright blue eyes, golden hair, soft face. Suddenly, I heard noises outside. Four people in white robes and hoods were walking down the street, muttering incantations. Suddenly, I felt strange. I looked at my hands and gasped. It was as though I were dust and they were a vacuum. As they came closer, more of me got pulled towards them. Suddenly, they looked at me. They all drew swords and ran for my front door. I closed my eyes, trying to focus on someplace to teleport to. But I couldn't. I knew where to go, but I couldn't come up with the image. I couldn't do anything, I was trapped. I heard my dad screaming at the intruders. Suddenly, I heard a sword puncture him and him gargle, drowning with the blood in his mouth. I looked around, frantically. Then I did the only thing I could, I closed my eyes and jumped out the window. Suddenly, an image flashed in my head. When I opened my eyes, I found myself in a dark room. I had no idea where I was, but at least I was away from those people in white....whoever they were. "What's going on?" I hissed, trying to focus again. Why couldn't I focus when they were near me? Who were they? Why did they come for me? Nothing made sense. I sat down on the ground, closed my eyes, and tried to focus, trying to regather my thoughts.
