In Your Dreams [4]

I walked downstairs. Thank God, dad was asleep. I walked into the kitchen, and I nearly gasped. I couldn't believe my eyes. There was actually real food on the table. I guess dad went shopping sometime. There were a few pop tarts in a box. I pulled them out and put them in the toaster. I opened the fridge, the milk we had hadn't expired yet. I poured myself a glass and drank it with my pop tarts. After breakfast, I walked upstairs to my room. In the corner, I had a bar hung from side of the wall to the other side. Across from the bar was Trisha's picture. As I did push ups or did pull ups on my bar, I would look at the picture, and in her eyes I would see the one thing I wanted. My one goal in life. I pulled out the iPod Trisha had given me  for Christmas. I had already put a bunch of songs on there. I turned on my usual workout song: Tears Don't Fall by Bullet for my Valentine. I began doing pull-ups and softly sung along to the song, "Would she hold me," I sung below my breath, "If I called her name." After my morning workout, I took a quick cold shower, and went out. It was Saturday and I had nothing planned for the day. I got on the skateboard I had forged from a garbage and fixed. I rode it downtown. I looked around me. It was Saturday morning, and many people were at the Farmer's Market down by Main Street. I looked in the crowd and saw the face that I could see from universes away. Trisha was shopping there. I snuck up behind her, "Boo!" I jumped on her, quickly grabbing her shoulders. She yelped softly and turned around, laughing, she playfully hit me, "You're such an ass!" she joked. I smiled, blocking her blows. "I'm good, and you?" I said. She laughed and gathered herself. "I'm fine, I was just picking up some things for home," she said. She looked at my cheek, "What happened to you?" she asked. My smile faded, I turned my face away, "It's better if you don't know," I said, "Yet," I whispered beneath my breath.

We walked along, looking at the different booths, joking and playing around. On our way down the market, she smiled as she looked at me, "There's something different about you," she said, "I can't tell what it is but there's a difference." I smiled, "Yeah, I felt different this morning," I replied, "I don't know what it is, but all I know is that things are going good for once." Guilt engulfed Trisha's face right when I said that, "Oh, if it's about last night," she said, I shook my head, "No, don't worry about it. It's not that, it's fine. I'm good," I comforted her, "Reality checks hurt but you know, you need them." She tried to smile but gave up, "I still feel like crap that I hurt you," she said. I tried to comfort her. "Hey, it's OK, don't worry about it. You're not the first to hurt me, and you won't be the last. People get hurt, but they get back up. It's OK, seriously, don't worry about it." Trisha sighed sadly and shook her head. "Don't feel any regret for anything," I said, "You didn't do anything."

Time flew by like leaves in an autumn wind. I could hardly keep track of time as minutes diminished to seconds. Hours passed by before we knew it. Before I could realize it, I was walking her home. We got in front of her doorstep, she turned to face me. She looked down at her feet for a moment, bit her lip, looked up at me and smiled. "Thanks for keeping me company today," she said, hugging her bag of groceries. I smiled, "Anytime," I said, "If you're feeling alone or want to talk, feel free to call me." She smiled, "I think I'll do that," she said. We both giggled. I smiled, and just looked at her for a moment. After a while, she caught my stare. She blushed and looked down at her feet a little, "What?" she asked playfully. "Nothing," I said, "I just like hearing your voice." Trisha's face softened, "Awww," she cooed softly. She sighed, "Kyle," she began. I looked at her intently. "Do you ever feel like you made a mistake, even if you thought you were so sure that you wanted what you chose?" I looked at her a little confused, "I'm not sure what you're asking," I said, "But I think I know what you're trying to say." She sighed, "Why are you still single, Kyle?" she asked. I felt stunned by the question, I chuckled, and thought. "I don't know," I said, "No one's ever taken notice to me, I guess." Trisha sighed, and looked at the ground. She rocked on her heels a little bit. "Kyle, I," she began but stopped. She shook her head, "I have to go," she quickly said, shaking her head. She spun around and ran through her door and closed it shut. I felt my disappointment, sorrow, and tears crash all around me. Everything seemed to be crashing down at that one moment. I had no idea why she did what she did.

Behind the door, Trisha was leaning against it and breathing heavily. Her mind wandered off to Kyle, "Oh no," she thought to herself, "I did it again; I hurt him! I hurt Kyle! I hurt Kyle! I...hurt..Kyle.....Kyle." His name echoed in her head. She felt herself get light headed and she felt as though she was being lifted at the very thought of him. She felt her heart pound harder and harder, making her fly higher and higher. Suddenly, she came back to her senses. She couldn't be falling for Kyle. She couldn't. She had Andrew. Andrew loved her, he love her with all his heart. Or did he? Trisha couldn't find any rest. Every answer led her to another troubling question. She felt sick to her stomach for betraying Andrew, she felt like shit for hurting Kyle again, and she felt terrible for letting Andrew take her while Kyle was obviously the better guy. Or was he? "I don't know anymore," she said to herself. She ran upstairs into her room, turned on the music, and sat there, trying to make sense of things. Her mind wandered off to Kyle as soon as the music began. It was the same song he had sung last night: Tears Don't Fall by Bullet for my Valentine. She dug her face in her hands and let herself drown in her thoughts.
