Accidental Love [Chapter 32]
|
Chapter 32
Sophie awoke the next morning to her alarm clock buzzing. Hitting the snooze button, she stretched and smiled until she realized what she had been told the day before.
She, hurriedly brushed, showered, dressed, and ate before heading out the door to school. She had lied; her dad was still in the house eating breakfast.
Sophie checked to make sure Logan’s car was still in park. She ran up her block and turned the corner so he wouldn’t have seen her if he had chose to open his shades.
Doors opened at the school an hour earlier than the actual bell schedule. Sophie looked at the school digital clock and saw she had 10 minutes left. There was no point going to the library so she went to her first period class and chose a seat. She felt like something was missing; like she was forgetting something.
Crap, Sophie thought, volleyball practice after school. Two reasons why I don’t want to go: 1. the coach would yell at me for last time. 2. Stacie was going to be there.
The bell rang, finally, and students started wandering in, one after the other. Of course Logan was the last one, with an iPod headphone stuck in his ear.
He turned it off as he saw Sophie, and smiled. Much to Sophie’s dismay, he took the empty seat next to her.
“Hey,” He said quietly, giving her a peck on the lips. Sophie looked at him and flashed him a tiny smile.
She tried to enjoy the rest of the day because she had no idea how much longer she had with him. Mind you, the day went incredibly slow for Sophie which was good for her since she was dreading volleyball. However, it came to an end at last as the last bell rang.
Sophie kissed Logan goodbye and continued down to the gym. She changed into shorts and a t-shirt, locked her locker, and walked out of the room. Eyes were on her as she went towards the coach to apologize.
“I’m sorry, Coach, what happened last time will never happen again, I let my emotions get the best of me.”
The Coach eyed her skeptically and finally gave in. She breathed a sigh of relief as she started walking to an empty spot in the gym. As she passed by Stacie, she heard her whisper, “I’m sorry for your loss,” She looked genuinely concerned and sympathetic. She had guessed Stacie had already gone and apologized to the Coach. Sophie nodded and started her warm-ups; touching her toes, and jogging in place.
She immersed her mind in the game and forgot about all of the other problems that lay in her future.
Walking on the streets towards home, Sophie rubbed her neck as she thought about the major problem on her hands. How to break it to Logan.
She trudged into her house and slammed the door shut behind her.
“Sophie,” Her mother called, coming into view from the kitchen, “Logan—’’
“I know, Mother, he has a right to know what is going on. I’ll tell him,” She cut-off, irritated. She walked up the stairs, slow as possible; to delay the heartbreak they would be suffering in the future.
She opened the door and wasn’t greeted with a pleasant sight.
Logan was sitting in her rocker chair, hypnotized by what looked like a necklace moving back and forth between his fingers. The gold was flickering was every which way. His expression wasn’t exactly content. He looked severely pissed.
Uh-oh, she thought worriedly looking at the floor, what’s he doing here? She glanced back at Logan who was now coming towards her.
“Logan, I can explain—’’Sophie said stopping, to lick her dry lips.
“Were you ever planning to tell me?” He said coldly, ignoring her previous words.
He shoved the necklace in her hand and ran out of her house.
Sophie stood there, shocked. Her eyes dropped down to the necklace, which was she quickly noticed was a locket. She opened it up and saw their pictures inside.
Sophie closed it and clenched it in her fist as she felt a new wave of tears coming on. She sighed and then noticed she didn’t feel a smooth surface.
Flipping the locket over and looking much closer, she made out an inscription on the back of the locket.
Sophie + Logan, Forever.
