The Kidnapped Prince

Once upon a time there lived a girl named Bella and she was the prettiest young lady in all of town. She lived with her father was poor, working as a miller. That day, her father had asked her to go buy some fruit from the town square. It was about noon when she heard the royal trumpets signaling the presence of the Queen and King. However, this time the Prince, whom girls started and talked about, wasn’t there. “ATTENTION ALL! We have disheartening news. The prince has been kidnapped!” the King said. Gasps and murmurs floated throughout the crowd.

“How can this be?” a woman cried from besides Bella. “We do not know,” the King replied calmly as possible, “However, we received a random note asking for 3,000,000 gold coins.” A shudder went through the crowd. “But where will you get the money from?” Bella asked, knowing that not even the King and Queen had that much. “I’ll work double shifts at the mill!” a man offered. Soon, people started volunteering to contribute money. The queen rose from her throne and asked for silence and smiled. “I am forever grateful for knowing such kind people but we could not possibly accept it.” She explained. “Then what shall we do?” a young man asked. “Start looking for him at once… who knows, perhaps the kidnapper is among us?” the King said grimly. Fear spread throughout the crowd and whispers arose. “We shall inform you if we receive new information, good bye and thank you all!” The King said as they slowly departed with the royal trumpets blaring. As the crowd slowly resumed their daily work, the air was still tense. People were looking at others with a suspicious glance. Bella wondered, just where o’ where can the Prince be.

The Prince slowly awake with a start. Where am I? He thought. He heard mysterious chanting nearby. He slowly walked over to the iron gate and peered out. He saw an old witch throw 3 cloves of garlic in the stew. “Now that I have the Prince, my 3,000,000 gold coins shall be on their way!” She said gleefully and cackled laughing. Her front tooth was missing; she had 7 warts on her face and red bloodshot eyes. She reminded Edward of old leather and she stank like a year old container of yogurt. The witch danced around the room casting ghoulish shadows on the walls. The Prince, whose name was Edward, stifled a gasp and returned to his cot which was dusty as an unclean attic, “What shall I do?” He murmured out loud. “I’ll tell you what you should do.” The witch said as she grinned evilly. Prince Edward stayed quiet in fear. “You’re going to sit here, do nothing foolish and obey me if you ever want to see your parents again.” She snapped. Prince Edward didn’t dare utter a word. “Now I’m going out to buy some groceries, be quiet and just sit here.” She told him as she took out his wand and zapped herself to appear like an innocent girl. Edward nodded quickly, trying to get her to leave. He recognized her from the Kingdom; she shopped daily at 3:00 pm.

She locked the main door behind her and muttered “Door, door, guard this home with all your might, as I take my flight, and soar into the night, don’t open until this spell I recite.” Prince Edward memorized this spell knowing it would come in handy. As he peered out the window, he saw the witch leave with a broom and he knew escaping would be hopeless. Disappointed, he stared out the window until he realized his kingdom was near. He gazed out until he saw the tallest tower in the Kingdom and that was Bella’s father’s mill. He didn’t remember her father’s name but he certainly remembered Bella. With a fair face, rosy cheeks like roses, and black as tar hair, she was definitely the prettiest out of all the girls he had met. He sighed in disappointment as he realized out of all of the girls that liked him… she wasn’t one. He snapped back to reality as he noticed that the light in the mill was on. He had super sight eyes because it ran in his family genes. Luck was on his side, a sound as loud as a gun shot went off outside. It was thunder.

Bella sighed as she racked her brain trying to figure out where she had kept her binoculars. She sat in front of a huge window overlooking the woods right outside the Kingdom. “Just when you want to watch birds you can’t find them.” She grumbled to herself. She let her mind wander to Prince Edward. Even though she acted like she didn’t like him, she still had a crush on him. She thought of his purple eyes that were like violets and‑--BAM! She straightened up listening attentively. BAM! That sound wasn’t loud, like a pin dropping to the floor, but Bella could hear it. She looked out the window and saw everyone working as if everything was normal. Bella looked straight ahead to where the noise came from and then realized it was just thunder. As she was about to turn back around, she saw movement in a tower near the woods. She squinted in an attempt to see who/what was there and saw someone or something jumping up and down with black curls in their hair… wait a minute! That was Prince Edward! She frantically started looking for her binoculars. She looked in her bag, then her secret hiding spot, and finally spotted them perched on the ledge. She grabbed them and looked towards the tower. She pointed to herself and then to him silently asking if she should come over. As she looked out of the binoculars, she saw him mouth the words, “Tomorrow at 3.” She quickly nodded and waved her hand to say good bye. He nodded and Bella went home.

Prince Edward turned from the window and sighed with relief. He shook the door 3 times to see if it would give away. He kicked the wall and exclaimed, “DARN IT!” Suddenly the wall parted and closed and out came a frog. “Finally I’m released! For seven years I have been trapped in that place because of that witch! I’m free at last!” The frog cried out. The Prince gasped. “You-u-u talk-k?” He stammered out. “Why yes! I am so grateful that you have freed me! In return I shall help you escape here.” The frog replied hopping everywhere. “But how?” Prince Edward asked as he sighed. “I’ve tried just about everything.” The frog said, “Did you even blow things up? I heard a bang…” “Oh no, that was just the thunder. Luckily a girl heard it and saw me. She’s coming over to help at 3.” The Prince said assuredly. “Oh good!” The frog replied anxiously, “We’ll find a way to get ourselves out of here.” They heard the witch recite the spell outside. “Hurry!” the Prince ushered. The frog hopped under Edward’s cot and stayed quiet as a mouse as the witch came down the hall.

“Hope you haven’t done anything you’ll regret.” The witch said as she eyed him. Edward nodded. “Good, now here’s your dinner.” She said meanly. She dropped apples outside the gate which was identical to the ones found in prison and went back to the kitchen. When he was sure she wasn’t returning the frog hopped out, flicking his tongue at a fly. “Right so, how are we going to get out of here?” The Prince whispered. “The witch goes out daily during 3. I already know the spell she used to keep you locked in, it was the same one she used on me. We just need to know the spell she put on the main door.” The frog replied. “Oh! I know the spell she uses for the main door!” The prince said excitedly. “What is it?!” The frog asked impatiently hopping up and down. “It’s … door, door, guard this home with all your might, as I take my flight, and soar into the night, don’t open until this spell I recite.” Perfect!” The frog cried out. “We’ll look for a way to get out of this tower when we get out of this cell.” Prince Edward yawned and said sleepily, “Okay…I’m off to bed now, good night frog!” “Good night, Edward.” The frog replied. With that they both went to sleep.

The next morning the Prince awoke to the frog licking his face. “Good morning!” the frog said happily. “G’ morning!” the Prince answered. They heard foot steps down the hall. As soon as the frog hid, the witch stood in front of the cell. “Ah, you’re wake, I heard noise last night, what were you doing?” she asked suspiciously. “Oh... nothing, I talk in my sleep,” The Prince said quickly. “What an unusual child.” The witch muttered as she retreated back to her room. The Prince sighed at his close save as the frog came out. When it struck 3 the witch once more came down the hall and told the Prince, “Don’t do anything foolish.” After 10 minutes Prince Edward smelled a fragrance that he knew well. He peered out the window and saw Bella coming down the path with a broom. “Bella!” he shouted happy to see the first human in a day. Bella looked up and smiled. “I have a broom that I can ride. I’ll fly up.” She shouted back as she neared the tower. She threw one leg over the broom and rose up until she was parallel to the door. The frog hopped in front of the locked door and muttered a spell. As the door parted, he said, “Come on Edward!” Edward ran out of the door. The frog ran ahead and used the spell Prince Edward had told him to unlock the main door. The Prince stopped at the open door and looked down. He was at least 150 feet above the ground. He took a deep breath and said, “How do you ride this?” “Jump and put your leg over the broom.” Bella replied. The Prince stood there nervously, and then jumped out the window, throwing his leg over the broom. The frog hopped on with his skinny webbed feet grasping the broom. As they flew downwards Prince Edward and Bella smiled at each other and rode back to the castle taking the empty road. Prince Edward wanted to avoid the witch. “I’m home!” Prince Edward announced as they landed in his room. His parents rushed into the room. His mother exclaimed, “Oh my… I was so worried! Thank goodness you’re alright.” “But who kidnapped you?” the King asked furiously. “The evil witch did! She lives in the tallest tower just outside the Kingdom! She must be getting back home, please hurry.” The King strode out the room to go meet the witch.

The witch had just arrived home and went down the hall to check on the Prince. Oh no! He isn’t here! She thought. The witch stomped her feet all around the blazing fire in the kitchen until she accidentally lost her footing and fell in. “Noooo!” She screamed. As the King entered the witch’s house using Bella’s broom, he smelt a nasty odor from the kitchen. Making his way there, he looked upon the sight and saw the witch’s ashes. “Well, that’s the end of her.” The King declared and went back to the royal castle.

Meanwhile, Edward was gazing at Bella mesmerized by her beauty. “Bella, where did you learn how to fly on a broom?” He asked. “Oh... when I was little my father taught me since we lived in a town full of GOOD witches.” She replied flushing. “Bella will you marry me?” He asked suddenly. Bella was shocked but gladly replied “Yes!” Edward told his parents as Bella did likewise with her father and they got married 3 days later with the magical frog as the royal pet. Bella and Edward were now content for the witch was now dead and they lived happily ever after.

rosebud9955 I've had to write similar types of stories in my English class as well, so I know how you feel writing in a style you aren't comfortable with. This was a nice story, except that honestly the part about the frog in the wall and how Bella and Edward escaped, confused me abit. It all happened in a rush and I was having trouble following the pattern of events. Despite that though, I greatly enjoyed reading this story. God bless and thankyou for posting it. =)

necrosiss I HAD to do this for my English class, we were doing fairytale psychology or something, idk. Anyways, this is definitely not my best work, I don't even believe in fairytale endings, how am I supposed to even write one. My friend told me to put it up since SHE thought it was good. Corny, cliche, classic. That's what my teacher wanted, and she got it.
