Accidental Love [Chapter 25]

Chapter 25
Eighth period bell finally rang, and Logan shot up from his seat and raced for the door.
“Logan, stop the running, this isn’t a gym!” The teacher yelled after him.
“Sorry!” He yelled back. He skipped going to his lockers and barged through the school doors. He half-ran, and half-jogged towards his car. He flung open the door and starting the car. Pulling out of the lot, he saw a cop and remembered his seatbelt.
Speeding on the road and his eyes darting in the review mirror for any police officers. Luck wasn’t on his side as he encountered red lights everywhere.
Damn it, he thought frustrated. He slammed his hand against the steering wheel.
Finally he pulled into 45th Street and parked expertly into his garage. He hopped out, pressed the lock button and ran over to Sophie’s house. He rang the doorbell but he heard no reply.
What the fuck, he thought sighing, she’s not answering. He ran around to the back and jumped over their fence to entire the backyard. Sophie’s room was on the second floor right near the window. He squinted his eyes and made out a slender silhouette.
“SOPHIEEE.” He screamed. She turned her back to him. Fuck, he thought frustrated. He glanced around hopelessly until he remembered what he did when he was five. He quickly turned around and sighed with relief as he realized the tree from when they were little was still there.
He put one foot on it and hoisted his other leg on the branch. Balancing out he thought grimly, the muscles I built from basketball came in handy. With that, he jumped onto the slanted roof that led out to the yard, and sat on her ledge. He knocked 3 times on her window.
It was quiet for a minute and then he saw the curtains part. Sophie looked out with frightened eyes until she saw it was Logan. She opened the window and moaned, “Go away.”
Logan wanted to hug her so badly, she looked like a wreck, her clothes had wrinkles, there were black stains on her t shirt from the tears and eyeliner, and her eyes were red and puffier than Stacie’s.
Sophie retreated back to her room but she forgot to close the window. Logan took advantage of this and climbed into her room. He saw Sophie on the bed with her hands in her face.
Logan sat down next to her, close but not too close. He watched her sob a couple of minutes more until he couldn’t stand it any longer.
“Come here,” He whispered, holding his arms out. Sophie fled to his arms, sobbing into his chest. Logan held her tightly and rocked her back and forth repeatedly until she slowed down to hiccups.
She suddenly got up and went towards her desk to retrieve the note Austin had written. He held it out to Logan who took it carefully.
He read the note through and with a heavy heart; he realized how much Austin loved Sophie. Sophie crawled to Logan and sat near him.
“It’s my fault,” She said, gazing at him with blank, dead eyes.
“Honey, it’s not your fault, don’t say it is,” Logan replied back, “It was his choice… to do what he did. You had no part in it.”
“But I kissed you.” She replied back, monotone.
“And I kissed you.” Logan replied back. He placed his hand on her cheek and he stared deep into her eyes. She gave no response.
“It’s not your fault. And if it, it is just as much as my fault as it is yours.” He said fiercely.
A cold tear fell on Logan’s hands. He brushed the tears away and refolded the note. He placed it behind him on the mattress and brought her closer to him.
She slid down and got comfortable, resting her head on his chest.
They both gazed up at the ceiling, lost in their own thoughts.
“Austin’s mother asked me to come to his funeral.” She replied in a dead tone.
Logan didn’t reply. She looked up towards him to find him gazing back.
“I have to go.”
“No, you don’t. You have a choice,” Logan replied.
“No… I’m at fault for this,” She began. Seeing Logan’s pained expression she added, “Partly at fault.”
Sophie continued.
“I would like if you came with me.” She said quickly, gazing down.
Logan tilted her head back up and whispered,
“I’ll go anywhere you want me to, as long as it’s with you.”
With that said, their lips slowly met as they melted into an everlasting kiss.
