Accidental Love [Chapter 24]

Chapter 24
"You can call someone to pick you up or we can have someone from the station drop you off at your house. The school has already been notified so it's no problem," The officer said hesitantly.
Sophie cleared her throat and tried to stop the tear flow. "Um, if I could get someone from the station to drop me off, that would be great..." She replied softly.
He gave her a sympathetic smile as he nodded. He walked out his door to tell the same officer that had brought her there to bring her back home. .
Sophie tucked Austin's note away, her eyes brimming with tears once again. She heard footsteps behind her. Sophie slowly turned around and she saw the lady that looked like Austin.
"Sophie..." The lady whispered.
"Yes?" Sophie asked curiously, her voice cracking.
"What did my baby's letter say?"
The puzzle pieces in Sophie's head immediately clicked and she knew instantly that the lady was Austin's mother.
Sophie couldn't bring herself to repeat what the letter said so she held out the letter. Austin's mother slowly took it as she read it.
After she was done, she folded it, and tears fell on her already wet cheeks. She said slowly, her lips barely moving, "Sophie, I do not know what you have done but it must've been horrible."
Sophie cringed as her heart dropped another level. "I'm not going to be angry at you because what my son did was entirely his choice." Austin's mother bitterly smiled.
"At least my son didn't die in vain... he died in love."
Sophie looked away as she held back tears.
"I only ask one thing of you Sophie." His mother said quietly. As Sophie met her eyes, she said, "Come to his funeral."
They heard a cough. Sophie tore her eyes away from Austin's mothers and gazed at the officer who had entered the room.
"Sophie, the officer who dropped you off earlier is waiting out front. Ms. McKain, you can leave unless you want someone to drop you off as well."
"No, I'll walk. I need fresh air anyways," Ms. McKain replied.
She looked at Sophie as she whispered, "Please."
Sophie nodded as she gathered her things and walked out of the door, taking Austin's note with her. As she settled into the car, she thought, how will I ever be able to face his lifeless body?
With that, she cried for another half hour with the officer driving looking back in pity.
Logan
Logan walked down the hallway towards his 7th period class. One more period, and then I'll see Sophie, he thought worriedly, I wonder how she's doing.
As he entered the class, everyone stared at him with curiosity. They hoped he knew something about Austin's death. He looked down at the floor to avoid those eyes that he felt were burning into his back. He looked around for a seat but all of them were full except for the one in front of Stacie.
Oh boy, he thought tiredly. He slid into the seat as the teacher began the lecture.
This is it, he thought, I promised Sophie I'd break up with her and now's the time. He ripped out a piece of paper to write on but a note fell on his desk first.
He slowly unfolded it as he recognized Stacie's handwriting-
Logan,
I'd have to be completely blind and stupid not to notice you're completely head over heels about Sophie. I'm pretty sure since Austin's... gone now; you're going to break up with me to be with her... Nonetheless, you never loved me. Meet me outside of our 8th period class.
-Stacie.
Logan tucked away the note as he anxiously awaited the end of the day. When 7th period ended, Stacie jumped out of her seat and exited through the door quickly. What’s her problem, Logan thought grumpy since he didn’t see Sophie the entire day.
He walked quickly down the halls towards his next class for two reasons. One, to talk to Stacie, and two, to escape those eyes that kept following him around.
As he approached Stacie who was standing near the door, he began reciting his apology and how to go about not hurting her. He raised his eyes and met hers, and saw it was too late. Her eyes were downcast, and she kept biting her lip as if on the verge of tears.
“Stacie, I’m so sorry…” Logan began, not being able to meet her eyes.
“Sorry for what? Sorry for hurting me?” She asked quietly.
“It was inevitable,” She stated, looking into his eyes.
“No… Austin was right,” Logan said miserably, “I shouldn’t have done that.”
“He’s right,” Stacie said bitterly but thoughtfully, “You shouldn’t have. But that doesn’t stop you from loving Sophie, does it?”
Logan didn’t answer nor did Stacie wait for one. “This is it,” She whispered, “Bye Logan, be happy with Sophie, you deserve it.”
She turned away to walk inside the classroom but not before Logan saw a tear fall on her skin. Logan hung around the door guiltily until the bell rang.
When he stepped inside, he saw tons of guys comforting Stacie and asking her what was wrong. She raised her eyes and looked at Logan pleadingly, to help get her out of there.
Logan broke into a sad grin. As Stacie gave him a tiny smile, he knew that somehow, just somehow, she was going to be alright.
[I have a new poem up calling “Drunken Love”, please rate. It’s like the other poem I wrote, “In this room, there lies a girl…” it tells a story. A different story. My friend’s girlfriend died in a car accident because of a drunk driver and I find it a horrible thing. Thank you and I promise you; the plot of Accidental Love will definitely get interesting.]
