Chapter 13

 

                   As soon as the rest of the guys (yes, it was guys only.) were sorted into teams, Logan caught Austin’s eye and they both made their way towards their court without looking away.

 

All of Logan’s and Austin’s friends seemed to be concentrated on them more rather than the game.

 

The teacher caught onto this and rolled his eyes.

 

“Since more than half of you seemed interested in their game rather than your own, we can just watch them play each other.” He said sarcastically.

 

To his surprise, the guys didn’t protest. In fact all of them murmured, “Sure, cool with me.”

 

As they sat down on the bleachers, their eyes were intently looking at them.

 

“Guess it’s just you and me.” Austin smirked.

 

“Obviously.” Logan said coolly.

 

There was no way I’m going to let him win, he thought, he stole  the girl I love and now he’s going to steal the game as well? No. No fucking way.

 

“Alright, heads or tails?” The gym teacher asked.

 

“Tails.” Austin replied.

 

The teacher flipped the coin. It was heads.

 

“Logan gets the ball.” He said. Logan grinned.

 

“Isn’t going to make a difference, we all know who is going to win anyways.” Austin said, pissed.

 

“That’s right.” Logan said evenly, “Me.”

 

Austin glowered and said, “Let’s just play.”

 

Logan began to dribble down the court and Austin was hot on his heels. Logan faked right and jumped up and threw the ball towards the net. It circled the rim and fell through.

 

“THAT’S how you play.” Logan said smirking.

 

Austin frowned as he grabbed the ball and began dribbling towards the opposite side.

 

“You never told me why you didn’t like me.” Austin grunted as sweat beads were forming.

 

Logan kept blocking him from every which way.

 

“You hurt Sophie more than once.” Logan panted back. Austin faked left and jumped up to make a three pointer but Logan was quicker. He knocked the ball from the tips of fingers and caught it quickly.

 

“I know I did, and I’m sorry for that. But you’re mad at me as if I stole the girl you love or something. I mean you guys broke up.” Austin breathed out heavily.

 

Logan stayed silent as he kept dribbling. He tried to make a shot but it just bounced off the backboard.

 

Austin grabbed the ball and dribbled it to the opposite side again.

 

“I do love her.” Logan said frustrated.

 

Austin froze and forgot about the ball. Logan took this to his advantage and snatched it away. Dribbling it down court with Austin right behind him, he struggled to get the following words out.

 

“But she doesn’t like me nor ever will.”

 

Austin somehow stole the ball, ran down to his side and aimed for a shot. He made it directly in the center of the basket.

 

“Three points to three points.” They heard the teacher call out, “One minute till the end of the game.”

 

Logan being a faster runner grabbed the ball and ran fast down the opposite side of the gym.

 

Austin blocked him from every which way. “That’s right, she likes me.” Austin said reminding him.

 

“10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5….” They heard the guys shout out.

 

“Don’t be the bitch you are.” Logan said as he aimed from the three pointer again.

 

He made it in just as the teacher blew the whistle signaling the end of the game.

 

They hadn’t noticed the game was so long it took up the entire gym period.

 

“Logan won!” The teacher called out as if that wasn’t obvious enough.

 

He heard cheers from his friends. Even though I won, I really didn’t, he thought, Austin has Sophie and that’s the biggest victory of all.

 

Logan said glaring straight ahead, “Just take care of her.”

 

Austin scowled. “Get Sophie out of your fucking head, she’s mine and she’ll always be mine. I know how to treat girls unlike you.”

 

Logan paled.

 

As they headed into the locker room, Austin saw he had struck a nerve.

 

“Don’t you enjoy playing with Stacie’s feelings just because you can’t have Sophie?” He said sarcastically.

 

Logan had enough.

 

He grabbed Austin by his shirt and shoved him up against the locker. He growled, “I hear that she ever fucking cried –for ANY reason and you’re dead. Got it?” Logan looked at him dead in his eyes. Logan let go of him roughly.

 

He stormed off to go change.

 

Austin stared after him.

 

“Before you ordering me around, maybe you should get yourself checked out first.” Austin yelled after him.

 

Logan ignored him and slammed an open locker shut as hard as he could.

 

Austin then realized the whole locker room had gone silent.

 

“THIS ISN’T A SHOW PEOPLE, GET MOVING, DON’T YOU HAVE LIVES?!” Austin yelled.

 

Everyone started talking at once and lockers started slamming shut.

 

As Austin walked out of the doors, he saw Sophie there waiting for him.

 

She smiled at him and he plastered a smile on his face. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Logan come out.

 

His eyes landed directly on them.

 

Austin wrapped an arm protectively around Sophie’s waist and led her away.

 

He could still feel Logan’s eyes burning into his back even as he turned the corner.
