Romance Created on 7-15-08 Views(54) Story Rating PG

Ashley stood at the door in shock of what she had just heard. 'Devin was...he couldn't be like that.' she thought. 'This can't be happening.' Ashley tried to calm her breathing then knocked on the door. “Yes.” Devin called out in a stranded voice. “I got your clothes.” Ashley whispered taking them in. “Your clothes from yesterday shrunk so I got you some new ones.” she said to Avril before walking out.

Devin watched as Avril slipped her shorts. Her skin was calling to him and it was taking all his strength not to grab her, spin her around, and beg for forgiveness for something he didn't even remember doing. 'What am I gonna do?' he thought solemnly.

Sighing Avril took the bikini and put it on. Ashley seem to think the less clothes she had on the cooler she would be. Avril stared at herself in the mirror she had changed so much. Sure she seem the same but if you really looked at her you could see that everything had changed some how. Once her belly had had some curve to it now it was so skinny it made her pelvic bones stick out and it wasn't just her stomach that was doing this it was her arm, legs, and face, everywhere that could stick out was. Her eyes that were once shinny and bold were dull and shy. She hadn't smiled in so she'd forgotten what it looked like.

Avril sighed the string just wasn't want to cooperate. Pulling it tight she turned around, “Come on lets go.” she said not looking him in the eye. Sighing he nodded his head. It was gonna be a long trip.

As they neared the door his mother's glare deepened. Avril sighed and rolled her eyes, 'She thinks her son's so perfect.' Avril thought in disgust. 'If only she knew.' she thought shaking her head almost wishing her Deylay wasn't blocking others from hearing her thought.

Looking at Ashley she could see she was on the verge of crying. Avril pursed her lips, “You must really love your brother.” Avril said load enough for only her to hear. Ashley looked at him then took Avril's hand quickly. Her hand lingered long enough to tell Avril that she'd heard then she took her hand back. Everyone stared in wonder as Avril turned pale with shock. Avril nodded then grabbed the door nob and opened it. She couldn't stay any longer.

As she started the car she began to fight for breath. Devin knew he should stop her but couldn't muster that courage. When they reached the first town he asked her, “Hey you mind if we stop I'm kinda hungry?” Devin figured that this way they couldn't say he didn't try to stop her. Taking a deep ragged breath she nodded. 'I hate Deylay!' she thought pulling into a restaurant parking lot. Walking in a man caught her eye. Suddenly a mass of memories flooded in.

The man's name was Eric. For a time before she'd met Justin they'd dated but after what Justin had done to her she'd pushed everyone away. She'd hurt him a lot and she hadn't cared. They'd been in love and then she'd let Justin pull her away from him and then she'd turned cold to him. The last time they talked he'd been trying to get her to stay with him and leave Devin alone he'd had a bad feeling. Avril sighed he was right.

As she returned to normal she heard Devin whisper, “I changed my mind lets get out of here.” “What you afraid of a big bad wolf?” Avril said tilting her head Eric's direction. “So you remembered him?” Avril nodded. Devin stiffened his jaw and started off to the booth nearest the door. Avril stopped him and pointed to an empty table in the dark corner. Nodding quietly he followed her.

As Devin walked past Eric one of his buddies smelt him and elbowed Eric. Devin could feel Eric's gaze as it followed them to the table were they sat. Eric continued to watch until he saw Devin's face. Eric clinched his jaw he knew who that was.

Getting up from his seat he walked to Devin's table. “Who's life you gonna end today?” Eric asked placing his hand on Devin's shoulder causing him to flinch. “What's wrong buddy you and I both know I can't hurt you until they find Avril's body all I can do is take you to court.” Eric smiled towards Avril's menu. “You picked the wrong guy to hang with because he's gonna kill you.” Eric's statement was blunt and piercing cutting Devin deeply but it was Avril's reply that hurt the most. “I already figured that one out.”

Eric stared in her direction for a moment thinking he knew that voice some how, and then spit, “And yet you sit their contently?” “He's not the one who put the cuffs on.” She stated thought his question had not required an answer. Eric face slowly slipped into a look of shock now he was sure he knew that voice and the attitude that went with it. “You mind putting down that menu?” He asked impatiently. “Yes I would.” she replied not really ready to met up with him again. Quietly he swore and said, “Put don't the menu or I'll put it down for you.”

Sighing she put down her menu and looked at him. “Hello Eric.” she said calmly. Eric looked at her and couldn't believe his eyes. “Avril?” She tried her best to smile but fail horribly. “I-i-ah-he-ah-dead...” Eric scrunched his eyes in confusion. “How is this possible you've been missing for seven days now?” He finally stated. Quietly Devin answered for her, “I don't kill people I don't remember.” Eric looked at Devin and stared for a moment. “What do you mean?” “I mean exactly what I said.” Devin stated loader this time growling at the end. Eric grinned a toothy grin and looked over at Avril. “Can I kill him?” Avril swallowed, closed her eyes, and then shook her head. “I need him.” She said quietly looking down at her menu again.

Eric took a deep breath and swallowed nervously, “I don't think I heard you right could you say that again?” “You heard me right.” she replied trying to calm herself. Eric blinked and then pulled up a seat and sat do next to her. Sitting close enough to whisper in her ear he said, “What has he done to you?” Scowling and moving over a little she replied quiet loudly. “Nothing. The witch did it all.” Eric jumped up like she'd just told him that she had the plague. “The witch?” Avril rolled her eyes, “I'm beginning to think that their's something wrong with your ears.” Eric looked at Devin then at Avril. “When?” “About six days ago we woke up in the middle of nowhere-” “It was seven.” Devin broke in. “No it was six.” Avril glared at him. “Your missing a day because you slept through it.” Avril stared at him for a few seconds then it clicked. “Your right seven, but anyways it turned out we were just miles from the witches house...or at least were she was staying.” Eric nodded, “So tell me what have you been up to for seven days?”

Hours later after they had told Eric all the non-juicy parts of their journey thus far Avril faked a yawn. “I think its time to get some rest we have to leave bright and early tomorrow this stop has cost us too much time already and the court will be moving soon.” She said getting up. Devin nodded wanting to get out of their quickly. “Ok. Eric said getting up as well. “I know the hotel manager over their and I can get you a room for cheap over there.” Eric said not really give them a choice though it was to appear as though it was one. Avril nodded, “Show us the way.”

Lying down in the bed next to him she took a deep breath this would be their last nigh to do this. She sighed. 'This would be his last night.' Looking at her he could tell something was wrong but after that morning he wasn't daring enough to ask. Leaning back on her pillow she quickly drifted off.

Devin watched Avril as she slept. Her sleep was fitful and disturbed and it was keeping Devin awake. Suddenly she let out a scream and started clawing at her arm were they had given her, her Deylay treatment. Devin Reached over and grabbed her arms, trying to stop her. Suddenly Avril's strength increased and the only way for him to stop her from tearing herself up was to get on top of her. When he did this, Avril became increasingly more difficult. “Please let go, it burns.” she whimpered. When he refused she started scratching and bitting him to get him off.

The venom from her Deylay was just starting to burn when Eric and his friends burst in. “What are you doing to her?” Eric asked looking at the blood that covered them both. “Her Deylay's acting up.” Devin said still struggling to stop her. “Please, it burns, it burns, I got to get it out!” she sobbed. Then when he wasn't expecting it she reached over and cut into her arm with her finger nails pulling a layer of skin away. “No.” he said pushing her arm down. Angered by this she pulled her arm from his hand and scratched his face leaving five perfect lines on the side of his face.

Growling he slammed her arm down and tightened his grip on her. “Avril.” he said looking at her as she thrashed around angrily trying to get away from him. “Avril!” he said louder looking at her face. Suddenly she stopped and her eyes shot open. Looking up at him she relaxed and watched him relax.

“What happened?” she asked quietly looking at his face and arms. “Your body was fighting the Deylay treatment again.” “Deylay treatment?” Eric asked in confusion. “I tried to tell you but you only want to know what Avril had to say.” Devin stated not taking his eyes off Avril. “You treated her Deylay?” “I had help but yes I did.” Devin replied slowly still on top of Avril. “Wh-” Eric started before Avril quietly broke in. “You can get off me now.” she whispered to Devin, who in turn blushed and rolled off. Devin's blush didn't go unnoticed by Eric who smiled to himself. 'The vampire has feeling for a slayer now that's rich and I thought that they were emotionless.'

Looking over at Eric Avril quietly asked him to get her mp3 player from her bag. Devin looked at her in surprise. She hadn't taken that out all trip. “Thanks.” she mumbled before putting the head phones on and laying down on the bed once more. Nodding once towards Avril Eric and his friends walked back to their rooms.

A few hours later Devin awoke to the most annoying song ever being repeated over and over again. Apparently she had rolled over on it and turned on the speaker. His sensitive ear's had picked up the song and not he couldn't sleep. Reaching over he tried to grab the player out of her hands. When he touched it, she reached out and hit him then rolled over turning up the volume. The powerful speaker began to blare the song making it worse than it was in the beginning.

Devin sat up, pulled his feet against his chest, and placed his hands on his ears. Suddenly Eric burst in again. “You messed with her, didn't you?” he said not really asking. “Yeah now how do I stop it?” “Um beast me but uh hurry up and figure it out cuz that's annoying.” he said taking a seat Eric began watching him intently. Reaching over Devin ran his finger over her bare side know that she was extremely ticklish. Avril pulled away quickly and dropped the mp3 player. Snatching it up Devin quickly turned of the speaker and placed it in her hand again.

Blinking slowly she rolled and looked at him. Pressing stop on the player she asked him. “Why'd you do that?” “Because I can't see how you can listen to that.” he said pointing to her player. Smiling she shook her head. “Sorry.” she whispered before falling back asleep.

Later that same night she began to toss and turn again and nearly broke Devin's arm. Looking at her he could tell she was looking for something but what he didn't know. “A heart beat.” Eric said from his seat. “Do what?” Devin asked slightly confused and irritated that Eric was still in their. “She's looking for a heart beat her Deylay causes her body to have trouble keeping her heart beat steady when she sleeps. Thus her Deylay activates and causes her to look for the heart beat of the person she's sleeping with or if she's alone it forces her awake.” “How does it know I'm here?” “Memories. Deylay can access memories from the beginning. Some say its cuz Deylay is caused by memories, I don't know but I do know that you really should draw her close to you or else she's gonna flip...You do have a heart beat right?” Eric said nervously. “Yeah...” Devin replied wrapping his arms around her. Avril's thrashing stopped the moment she hit his chest. His faint heart beat was going a mile a minute what would happen when she woke up to this? “You might want to calm down her heart is gonna match your beat by beat and if your heart's going nuts hers is gonna follow.” Eric grinned. Devin shut his eyes and tried to relax.

When his heart beat had slowed to its normal speed, he asked, “What are you doing in here?” “After what happened to night I was pretty sure that some of her old habits when it came to sleeping were returning and that you might need some help. I was right.” Eric chuckled. “You know I was taught that vampires were emotionless and that they couldn't love no matter how hard they tried but it seems I was taught wrong.” Devin glared at him. “I think is kinda sweet a vampire in love with a slayer that's a first.” Devin blushed a covered his head, “Would you leave already?” “Sure it looks like I'm done here. Oh, uh she's gonna kill you when you wake up.” “Why?” he asked suddenly. “Because y'all are gonna over sleep and miss the court.” Devin grabbed his watch and started to set the alarm on it. “I wouldn't even bother with that you sleep through it.” “Who do you know?” “I can see the future. It's my gift.”
