My Bad Boy Prince Charming? (25)
|
I worked so hard for the whole month. My paychecks added up to almost one thousand dollars. Kyle’s added up to almost two thousand. We paid almost every bill completely.
“Wow. Minna, you were right. Lets look for a new place.”
“Next month.” I said.
“What?”
“Trust me. But right now, we need to cut down on electricity and AC and water.”
“Okay.” He said unsurely.
“Kyle, seriously. Trust me.”
“Okay.” He said after a moment.
I took on more shifts and so did Kyle. We rarely saw each other. One morning, I decided to leave him a note.
Kyle-
We should look for apartments tomorrow. We both have the day off. It’ll be fun!
-Love Minna
I stuck it on the door and left. I worked 120 hours this week. I would be getting extra money.
Kyle woke me up.
“Minna, are you ready?”
“You take a shower, and I’ll keep sleeping.”
“I’ll wake you up after my shower.” He said and kissed my forehead.
“Minna. Wakey-wakey.”
“Already?” I said.
“Yep. Hop in the shower now.”
I took a cold, quick shower to wake me up. I was ready in twenty minutes. I looked at Kyle. He had the newspaper and was looking at apartments. He circled the good ones we could afford.
“Ready?”
“Ready.”
Apartment number one was great. It was a kitchen, a living room, and a bedroom with one bathroom. The rooms weren’t to small, and we got a great view of the city. It all went well until the lady tried to show us how much cabinet room we’d have. Not only did the door fall off, but roaches were crawling everywhere. We left.
Apartment number two wasn’t too good. Four rooms, two bathrooms, termites, roaches, spiders, leaky roof, windows didn’t close all the way, bullet hole in the wall. It was a definite no.
Apartment number three was the best so far. Four good sized rooms. One and a half bathrooms, fresh new carpets, fresh paint. No bugs! The tenants weren’t too loud. Good neighborhood too. We decided to check this one out again later.
Apartments four through six were all the same. Two rooms. No bugs.
Apartment seven was amazing. Four rooms, no bugs, NOTHING bad AT ALL. TWO bathrooms. Over our price range, and bills would cost an awful lot.
“Can we go back to number three?” I asked.
“I like that one too.” Kyle said.
We moved in two weeks later. We didn’t have enough furniture to fill everything up though. I kept my long hours and let Kyle take a rest. After a week, we both had long hours again.
“Kyle, I’m going to look for furniture. Wanna join?”
“Yeah.”
We looked for couches, lamps, fans. We looked for things to make home, homey.
It was so much fun. It was like in those movies where the couple does stupid things and get kicked out. We had to drive a few cities away because we got kicked out of a lot of the good stores. After the whole day, we found everything. It was to be delivered the next day. We stopped at a Chinese restaurant for dinner.
“Today was fun.” I said.
“It was. No one can have as much fun getting kicked out of stores as we can.” He said.
“I know. That’s why we’re special.”
“Yeah. You’re special. Special ed.”
We laughed.
That night, I went to bed dreaming of how to decorate and how much fun tomorrow would be.
