The Book
|
'The fear of battle loomed over the rivaled cities. The was much going on at this time though. Dragons, horses, minotaurs, warriors and spellcasters were all being readied for the greatest war known to man and beast.
'Elenia stood infront of the looking glass, trying to prepare herself mentally for what would be her hardest mission yet - leading her army and allies to war.
'Never before had he been in a war, nor even a large battle. Despite the hostility between the two cities, there had never been any real bloodshed. However, times had changed with the rise of two new rulers, a brother and sister.
'Stepping outside, Elenia met the eyes of her lover, Sylt.'
Jasmine put her book down as her mother came through the door.
"Jasmine... I said 'lights out'!" The old woman said in a raised voice.
"I'm 17..." She replied.
"Lights OUT!" She yelled.
Jasmine put her book away before even thinking about rebelling, "I heard you before."
"Then why didn't you do it?"
Making her way to the lights while pushing her mother out of the room, she replied rudely, "Well maybe I didn't want to... Maybe I was reading! It's my only hobby I'm allowed to do!"
Their was a silence between them as they stared eachother down. But when her mother opened her mouth to break the silence, Jasmine shut the door and yelled out to her, "I don't want to hear how good Jared is, ok? It's not like it's helping. You adults think you know everything, but what you don't realise is that by trying to make us jealous, you take away our dignity, our strength and our confidence. Fuck off, I don't want to hear it!" She locked the door quickly.
She heard her now irate mother storming down the stairs, preparing to vent it all out on her poor father.
"Why did that bitch have to marry my father? Just because I was one when they married, doesn't mean she my mum." She mumbled to herself as she climbed back into her bed. "Doesn't he realise how she praises and adores her son while I'm being treated as an unwelcome guess."
Ever since Jared had joined the family, Jasmine's needs and wants were put a side due to Lilly's (Jasmine's mother... Or rather, step mother) controlling ways. A step daughter is always seen as a threat to relationships, even one as young as Jasmine was.
To a step mother, it's not her child, and that's that. Well, that's how Lilly saw it, and Jasmine knew it her whole life. She never paid it any mind though, not until Jared came along 4 years after her father re-married.
It had been almost 11 years since that day but Jasmine always remembered how much she cried that night when they left her in the care of her uncle, a pedophile. She'd never forgiven them for that, for not believing her for until he was caught trying the same thing on baby Jared. Even then, Lilly had tried to put the blame on Jasmine for inviting him to do so to the both of them.
She never understood why Lilly hated her so much. Nor why her father would follow Lilly and ignore her pleas for help.
"Why did mum have to leave?" Tears began trickling down her face. "It's just like Cinderalla, except I have a dishwasher, (and on the occasion Lilly's gone, Jared is forced to help)." She buried her head into her pillow and tried to sleep.
