The Day The Cannons Sounded [Chapter 3]

Authors Comments: I know it's short. I'm sorry. I'll try to get another chapter up later.

“I-I read the letter.”

I nodded. The tears had never dried. They were still falling.

“The-the kids are-are at Mom’s.”

“Bring them back.” I whispered.

Hannah looked puzzled. She must have thought that I would have wanted to be alone. She would never understand. I needed them. They were part of Edward. They had Edward’s DNA running in their veins. They had his eyes or his hair or his nose or his fingernails. They were all I had left of him. The kids, the letters, and very soon a folded up flag.

Hannah hadn’t moved to her car or to the phone.

“BRING THEM BACK!” I screamed.

The tears were silent no longer. They were full force. Hannah still wasn’t moving. Or speaking.

“BRING MY CHILDREN BACK GOD DAMMIT!!!!!!”

Silence. Stillness.

“Bring them back.”

Silence. Stillness.

“Bring him back.”

And then the light was gone. I was unconscious once more.
