Harmony woke up, still feeling sick and immobile. She felt warmth next to her, and she slightly relaxed. Her neck felt wet, and the more she thought about it, she realized Darik was lying next to her.  (Now I remember…last night…I fell asleep on Darik, but now he’s asleep on me…and if we are friends…why do I suddenly feel like there’s something more here?) She turned her head and looked down at him. “He’s sweating badly…he is sick as well.” She slowly reached for the wet towel on her night stand. She grabbed it, rung it out in the bowl, and then slowly wiped his forehead with it.  *FLASHBACK TO AFTER THEY FIRST MET* “Is that you, Darik…” his mother, Kina called to him.  “Yes…mother…” Kina walked into the room where they were. Kina paused when she seen her son and the strange looking little girl covered in blood.  She walked over to them. Harmony only looked down, still holding fear in her eyes. “We will discuss this later Darik. See if she will let you clean her up, and I’ll finish diner.” Darik led Harmony into a bathroom.   “I don’t…know what to do. You are a girl…but…” Darik started to walk off, and Harmony grabbed his hand, as if she didn’t want him to leave. He turned to her curious. “Da…rik…” He smiled faintly, “Yes…” “Thank-you.” He said nothing more, but instead began to wipe her face, and then softly wiped her forehead.  He walked over to the tub where his mother had apparently run bath water for him, but he let her get in, and he went to the other bathroom to bathe.  A little later, Harmony had to wear some of Darik’s old clothes because there were no little girl’s in that house. At diner, Kina got Harmony to talk a little. “I’m Kina, Darik’s mother. What is your name little one?” Harmony looked at Darik, and then to his mother, but didn’t answer. “Ok…how old are you then?” Harmony held her head down and then said, “Six.” Kina smiled, “You are a year younger than Darik. I won’t ask what happened to you, but you are welcomed here with us.” Harmony panicked. “NO! IF I STAY HERE THE MONSTERS WILL GET YOU! THEY’LL KILL YOU LIKE THEY KILLED MY MAMA AND MY PAPA!” “Monsters?” Kina looked at Darik with her expression becoming serious. “Vampires…” “THAT SMELL…FEELING! THE MONSTERS ARE COMING! I HAVE TO GO NOW!” Harmony got up and ran out of the house. “Darik!” “Mother!” They ran after her outside where two Vampires were holding Harmony. “No…they’ve got her.” Darik became upset and his Vampire blood boiled. Though he was young he was still strong.  The star-moon-sun pendant around Harmony’s neck lit up. Derik and Kina ran towards them. “NO! DON’T HURT KINA AND DARIK!” Harmony yelled. The pendant glowed up, flooded with Harmony’s tears. There was a large flash, and the two vampires were demolished. Harmony dropped to the ground, but was caught by Darik. When she woke up again, Darik was sitting beside her with a wet towel, rubbing her facing, just as she was doing. *FLASHBACK END* Darik was moaning in his slumber, restless. Harmony tried to move, but as soon as Darik felt her body move away, he grabbed her tightly…refusing to let her go. “Don’t leave me…alone.” Harmony felt weird, and yet, she liked the feeling. “Darik…” He slowly opened his eyes, and looked up at Harmony. “You smell…so sweet.” Harmony’s body froze stiffly, and she thought of Vampires in that moment even though she knew in her heart, Darik couldn’t have been one. “What are you wearing Harmony…or maybe it’s just your sheets.” She sighed, relieved to hear the rest of his words. He knew he had frightened her with that comment, which is why he did it. “You’re sick…aren’t you Darik…” “No…I’m fine. I just need for you to get better.” “No…silly. I’m fine. In fact, I feel a hundred percent better since you gave me that pill. I wonder what it was.” She smiled trying to reassure him she was okay. “So, we have an hour to get ready for school?” “Yea. So I’m going to go and get our uniforms out of the laundry room. You stay here Darik.” He let her go and she got up and cheerfully ran out of the room. (You’re not well…you’re lying through those pretty little teeth of yours Harmony. I know you…much better than you think you know me.) Darik thought as he clenched his chest, and bit his lip.   Harmony returned with her uniform on and her toothbrush in her mouth while she held Darik’s uniform and toothbrush in her hand.  He got up and walked to the door to get them from her.  “You should go ahead and get ready to leave. You know the routine Harmony.” She nodded as she starred at him, getting an ominous feeling from his body.  He walked into the bathroom and began to get ready himself. (The students at school don’t know the truth.  They don’t know the relationship between Darik and I. The only ones who know the truth besides us are Cain, Leon, and Dominick who are actually Darik’s blood cousins. Whenever we come home, we take different routes that lead to the main street. He walks on one side with his cousins and I walk on the other with my friends. We speak then, and try to act like everyone else. He’s a junior this year, and I’m a sophomore, so we don’t see each other unless it’s lunch, or just gym class.  Amongst the students at school, Darik acts as if he doesn’t care. He only hangs with who he wants to, and brushes off other people. It’s only an act. The only reason we haven’t been to school is because I’ve been sick and when we get back, we have to make up lies about why we were absent on the same days, so we miss as little days as possible.  Sickness, family, and occasional weekends, like the one that just passed, is the only time anyone is allowed to leave STAR ACADEMY. We stay in the dorms on Campus where everything we need is provided. But sometimes, things get hard for Darik and me.) After she finished brushing her teeth, washing her face, and combing her hair, she went to Darik. He was done as well.  “Is everything locked Harmony?” “Yes.” “That’s good. I’m going out the back door, you go out the front.”  Harmony had a sad expression in her eyes, worried about Darik.  He hugged her smiling. Then he whispered to her, “I know that you aren’t better Harmony, but if anything happens to you on campus, I won’t be able to forgive myself. Take it easy today, please.” (So he knew after all.) “I will Darik…try.” He let her go and walked off. She went out of the front door, locked it again, and took her route to school. “Harmony!” Raya screamed to her. Harmony turned around and smiled, but was nearly knocked off her feet by Raya and Monika.  “You could have called! What’s been going on with you?” Monika said. “I was sick.” “We were worried,” Angel, another friend of hers, said.  “I’m fine guys, really. I hope someone took notes for me while I was gone.” “Why should we? You are like the smartest sophomore that you ever want to meet in your life. And besides, everything has been reviews,” Raya said. *giggles from Harmony* “Okay,” she replied.  “Oh my god! Look! There they are!” Monika said. “It’s Darik, Leon, Dominick, and Cain of the junior class!” Angel said.  The three of them shrieked loudly.  The boys turned to the girls.  “All of those human girls are pretty cute,” Leon said. “I agree. But we grew up with Harmony so…” Dominick said.  “Even if so…she still is cute. Don’t you agree,” Cain said to Darik. “Yea…” he replied. “How about we go and walk with the girls today?” Leon said. “Sure, why not,” Dominick said. They all crossed the street at the cross walk, and went to where the girls were.  “Good morning, ladies,” the boys said. Everyone except for Harmony nearly melted in their shoes.  “How are you feeling today, Harmony?” Leon asked. (He knows as well. Did Darik tell him I was sick?) “I’m just fine. Thanks for asking Leon.” “What about the rest of you ladies,” Dominick said smiling. “We’re feeling great!” they said romantically.  “Well we should all hurry along to school then,” Cain said. The girls walk in front giggling, clinging to one another. Raya looked back at Cain and he smiled sharply at her. She blushed and quickly turned back around.  “I think Raya likes you,” Leon said to Cain. *Cain, Darik, and Dominick look at Leon stupidly. Then Leon laughs embarrassed feeling stupid* “That’s the understatement of the year,” the three of them said to him. “I was just saying,” Leon said. The other boys sighed. “We know.” “Monika has a thing for you, Dominick, and well, it seems that Angel has a thing for me…” Leon said.” “And I don’t care how many times Darik denies it…he likes Harmony,” Dominick said. Darik looked at the back of Harmony’s head and then looked down. By that time, they had arrived at the school grounds. “We’ll, we will see you later girls,” the boys said walking off in another direction on campus. “See you later,” they said. “You should sit with us at lunch later,” Cain said smiling. *more shrieks from the girls* “Gladly!” they said. As known, Darik and Harmony had no input in the words of this conversation.
