Best Friends forever? Part 6

CHAPTER 6
“Elizabeth. I’m sorry that shouldn’t have happened.” Jordan stuttered.
Elizabeth’s eyes widened as the full effect of what just occurred hit her. “It’s ok Jordan. I wanted it to happen.” she said smiling at him. After the words came out Elizabeth let herself believe them.
The two of them rolled over on their backs and stared up at the ceiling. Jordan pondered how he could tell her exactly what was on his mind. He wanted to tell her that he loved her and that if she stayed with him he would make her see how amazing she really was. He could see the dismay that she hid from the rest of the world.
Elizabeth closed her eyes all she could picture was the two of them on the swings the day before Jordan left
*Flashback*
“Why do you have to go?” Elizabeth asked
“I’ve already told you. My dad got a new job.” Jordan answered fighting back tears.
“I don’t want you to go.” Elizabeth cried. “I love you.” She said without even thinking about what she had actually said.
Jordan looked at her shocked. “I love you too Lizzy.”
*End Flashback*
Tears slid down Elizabeth’s cheeks. Pulling the blanket tighter to her body she rolled over so her back was to Jordan. She didn’t want him to see her cry. Elizabeth was in love with him, but he wasn’t in love with her and she knew it. That love had faded away the day he left. Elizabeth felt disgusted with herself. Was this all she was to men? A piece of ass. A sob broke free from her even though she was trying so hard to keep it in.
“Lizzy what’s wrong?” Jordan asked.
When he said that Elizabeth cringed. No one ever called her that except for him and he hadn’t said it since the day on the swings.
“This is wrong.” Elizabeth said.
“But you said you wanted it to..”
“I know, but it’s wrong.” she interrupted.
“Lizzy just calm down.” Jordan said worried.
“I can’t. Jordan I have to go.” she said standing up and trying to gather her clothes as fast as she could.
Jordan stood up and pulled on his boxers. He tried to close the space between them, but she just kept backing up looking like she was about to run. So before she could he grabbed her and wrapped his arms tightly around her so she couldn’t get away.
“Jordan please let go of me.” She cried more tears escaping her eyes.
“I can’t do that.” he replied.
“Jordan please I have to get out of here.” she said frantically.
“WHY LIZZY?? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO LEAVE??” he shouted.
Tears fell from her eyes. It always frightened her a little when he yelled, but she knew that when he did he was really upset or he just really cared about something. She felt the cold hard wall behind her it raised Goosebumps on her back. Letting a sob break free she felt herself slide down the wall and onto the floor. “You left me Jordan.” she said barely above a whisper. “You left and I knew in my heart you were never going to come back. Everything was so perfect until you left and now you come back and everything is just supposed to pick up where it left off?”
“What are you trying to say?” he asked feeling a lump rise in his throat.
“I’m saying that you left when things were good and they can’t just be like that again. It doesn’t work that way.”
Jordan sighed and made his way to the bed. He grabbed a blanket and slowly walked back to Elizabeth. The one that he knew in his head and heart that he had loved all his life. He had just never been able to tell her. He sat down on the floor next to her and coaxed her forward so he could wrap the blanket around her shivering body. She smiled weakly up at him.
“Look I know that things can’t go back to the way that they used to be.” Jordan said slowly trying to hold back his tears. “but I think that this time they could be better.”
Elizabeth tried to smile. “I can’t just fall in love with you again. The thought of you leaving will always linger in the back of my mind. I mean it happened before, there’s no reason it couldn’t again.”
“Lizzy, why are you doing this? You know I had no choice then.” Jordan hadn’t even realized what she had said until a few seconds later. “Wait? Fall in love with me again? What do you mean?”
“Jordan are you really this naïve? I told you I loved you before I left. Don’t you remember?”
“How could I ever forget.” He said out loud without realizing it. “I still remember that day like it was yesterday. I didn’t think you meant it like you were in love with me.”
“Of course I did. I loved you then Jordan and I still love you today. That’s why this isn’t right. I love you, but you don’t love me.” She finished letting a few more tears slide down her cheek.
“What? I meant it when I said it then and I mean it when I say it now. I love you Elizabeth and I know that I always will.”
