A new world called California Part 31 [conclusion]

CHAPTER 31

2 YEARS LATER.

“Hey babe. How was work?” Justin asked, when I walked through the door.

“It was ok. Just long. I missed you two.” I said kissing Justin and then our beautiful daughter Jade.

“I missed mommy too.” Jade said proudly.

I lifted her up and spun her around. She squealed excitedly. I noticed Justin was on the phone.

“Who is it?” I asked setting jade down and walking over to him.

“It’s your dad.” he said wrapping his arm around my waist.

I ran my finger through his short hair and kissed his cheek. “I am gonna go get in the shower.”

“Ok.” he mouthed obviously listening to one of my dad’s long hilarious stories.

My dad had been thrilled when he found out that he was going to be a grandpa. He didn’t even care that Justin and I had Jade out of wedlock. He just wanted a grandchild so badly. He loved Justin and the two of them had forged a very tight bond even though thousands of miles separated them.

After I had finished showering and dressing I came out of the bedroom and noticed the house was eerily quiet. Only for a second though. Jade came running towards my screaming at the top of her lungs.

“What the matter baby?” I asked worried.

“Nothing mommy.” she said smiling. “Daddy wanted me to give you this.” She said handing me a little envelope. As soon as I took it from her so took off running back where she came from. I looked down at the envelope wondering what the hell it was and why Justin had asked Jade to bring it to me. I shrugged it off and slid my finger along the opening to the white paper. I felt something hard in the center of it and once it was opened I turned the envelope over and let the object fall into my hand. As soon as I saw what it was I immediately started to cry. I looked up to find Justin appear in front of me. He got down on one knee and took my hand. Jade was at his side seeming to know that this moment was important she stayed completely silent and looked up at me smiling.

“Kate.” Justin breathed, his voice cracking. “I love you with everything that I have in me. You are the world to me. Every moment that we have spent together has been the best of my life. I don’t know where I would be without you. You gave me a beautiful daughter which only made me for more in love with you. I know un-officially we are a family and I have never second guessed it, but I think it’s time that we make it official. What I am trying to say is….Kate will you marry me?”

Tears poured from my eyes as I looked into his. He was my everything. The first person I ever felt such a strong connection with. I had never loved someone as much as I loved him.

“Yes.” I said finally. “I will marry you.”

Jade, sensing that the moment had passed started to jump up and down. Justin rose and took the ring from my hand. He removed the promise ring and replaced it with the engagement ring. “I Love you Katherine Elizabeth.” he said wrapping his arms around me and lifting me up, “More than you will ever know.”

“ I love you too.” I said leaning down and kissing him, “more than you will ever know.”

I reached down and lifted Jade into my arms. Justin wrapped his arms around the both of us and Jade cried out happily.

“Jade honey.” I said setting her down.

“What mommy?” she asked.

“How would you like to have a new brother or sister?” I asked looking right at Justin.

I saw his eyes widen as the realization hit him.

“Yay! Someone new to play with.” Jade said running off to her room leaving Justin and I standing there staring into each other’s eyes.

“I took a test at work today. It was positive.” I said taking Justin’s hand in mine.

I waited for him to say something. He didn’t. Instead he just wrapped his arms around me and kissed me.

“I love you.” he said placing his hand on my stomach.

“I love you too.” I said as I placed my hand over top of his.
