A new world called California Part 28

CHAPTER 28

I woke up at seven o’ clock the next morning to my phone ringing. “Hello.” I said in a sleep filled voice.

“Hey sorry for waking you honey, but I just landed and I need to know how to get to wherever you are. I was about to stand up, but felt horribly nauseas. “um, hang on a second.” I said running for the bathroom. I covered the mouthpiece as I vomited into the toilet. Oh shit I thought to myself. I wiped my mouth and put the phone back to my ear. “Ok, I’m back.” I said.

I explained to him how to get to my cousins house, hung up, and jumped in the shower. As I stood there in the water I started thinking. What if I was pregnant? What the hell would I do? What would Justin say? Would he freak out and leave me? It’s ok I told myself, you could just have the stomach flu. I knew that it wouldn’t take long for him to get there so I finished and dressed myself quickly. Just when I had finished straightening my hair there was a knock at the door. Not wanting it took wake up my cousin I hurried to answer it. I opened the door to see my wonderful boyfriend in the doorway. “Hi babe, my cousin is still sleeping so let me write her a note and grab my stuff and then we can head to the hospital.” I whispered.

“Ok.” he said quietly.

After I finished the note and had my things we made our way out to the cars. “I’ll call the car rental company to come have them pick yours up. I didn’t think I would get in so early so that’s why I rented it for you.” Justin said.

I smiled, “I appreciated it baby, thank you.”

“No problem.” he said flashing his beautiful smile.

We got into the car and he placed a call to the car rental company and got everything all set.

About ten minutes later we were pulling into the hospital parking lot. Justin found a spot and pulled in. After putting the car in park Justin sighed.

“What’s wrong?” I asked concerned.

“I was just thinking about what you said about your dad.”

“Oh, I wanted to talk to you about that. Well, last night things kind of worked themselves out. He apologized and I just felt like it was time to forgive him.”

Justin smiled and took my hand in his.

“You are such an amazing and strong girl.” he said kissing my fingers.

I smiled back. “Well, are you ready to head in? My dad really wants to meet you.”

“Yes, I’m ready.” he answered.

We got out and I took his hand in my own.

When we arrived in my Dad’s room I kissed Justin and squeezed his hand tight in my own. I though maybe my grandma would be there, but she wasn’t. My dad was laying there.

“Hi dad.” I said smiling.

“Hi.” he said groggily.

“How are you feeling today?” I asked.

“I’m better than I was yesterday. You sound like one of my nurses.” He said smiling.

“Well, Dad I am a nurse now.”

“I know.” he replied patting the bed for me to sit down.

“Dad this is Justin.” I said motioning for Justin to come over. “Justin this is my dad.”

“Call me Mark.” My dad said as he stretched his hand out to shake Justin’s.

Justin took his hand and shook it firmly.

“Kate would you mind letting Justin and I talk for a little bit.” My dad asked.

“Yeah sure.” I said feeling a little unsure about what was going to happen.

I left the room and made my way down to the first floor deciding I needed some coffee.

After I got coffee I decided to explore the hospital. I went up to the second floor and made a left. I took a few steps and looked to my right. There I was in the maternity ward staring at a bunch of new born babies. Well, that’s weird and not very helpful with getting my mind off of my current situation, I thought to myself. I stood there for a little while just watching a baby girl sleeping peacefully. Instinctively my hand went to my stomach. As I stood there I started thinking about what it would be like to have a child, to hold something so fragile in my arms. It scared me, but made me a little happy at the same time, I had always said that I wanted to be out of college and have a career before I had children. Well, I had done both of those things, but I wasn’t married. Not even close to it. I looked down at my watch to notice I had been gone ten minutes. I decided they had had enough time, so I began making my way back up to my dad’s room.

When I walked in I saw them talking and laughing. I smiled. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”

“No honey you’re not.” Justin said.

“Come on in and sit down.” My dad offered.

I sat down on the bed next to my dad and Justin pulled his chair closer to me and slid his arm around my waist. I felt like crying as I was sitting there with two men that I knew loved me. I felt different inside and my brain was starting to believe what my heart already knew. I was with child. My brain hadn’t given up the battle. I decided I would take a pregnancy test the next day. I was most worried about how I was going to tell Justin. I pushed my thoughts aside and tried to enjoy the rest of the day with my men.
