CHAPTER 13

We arrived at a restaurant that had no name. I was sure it did, but in California you just had to know it. When we were inside we were both escorted into a private booth. It didn’t feel very private to me. I knew that people could still see us and the only thing separating us from everyone else was some sheer white fabric. As I looked at the menu I realized that I had no idea what any of the food was. Fancy dining was not something I happened to be familiar with. I looked at Justin pleadingly. He must have known what was wrong because he offered to order for me. I nodded my head. “You’re so cute in your innocence.” he said smiling at me and stroking my cheek.

“Innocence? What are you talking about? I would think after Saturday night that that would be the last word you would use to describe me.”

He laughed and placed his hand on top of mine. “what I meant is that you haven’t been corrupted and turned into a California rich girl.”

I smiled at him, but thought maybe he should have used the word ignorance instead of innocence. He ordered our food and when the waiter left he promised that I would like what he had ordered.

As we sat there I began thinking about whether I wanted to tell him about the incident with Matt or not, but before I could decide he interrupted, “I’ve been wanting to ask you since you haven’t said anything about it yet, how did the job interview go?” he stared at me waiting for me to answer. I wanted to test his patience so I took a drink of the champagne that had been poured in front of me. He looked pretty antsy so I finally told him, “I got the job.” I said smiling proudly.

“Oh that’s great!!” he said sounding like he himself had got the job.

“Why are you so excited?” I asked him curiously.

“Well, that means you are staying right?”

“I don’t know.” I answered honestly, “I mean I have a lot of reasons to go home and I know my family would prefer it if I did, but still I have some really good reasons to stay.”

He smiled, “what reasons are those? The reasons that make you want to stay I mean.”

“Well,” I began, “this job is one and well…you.”

He smiled obviously obtaining the answer he had hoped for. He really was a reason I wanted to stay. I didn’t really believe that we would get much farther, but it was worth a shot. Besides, he made me feel things I’d never felt before. Was I crazy to think that we could actually have a relationship? Was there really something so wrong with me to think that I could happen? To me it did feel like it was starting to turn into more than just lust, but was it possible for an A-list celebrity and an absolute nobody to even have a relationship? Would I be able, or actually would we be able to handle to constant scrutiny the relationship would be under? I knew magazines could and probably would be much more harsh than they had been.
