“How did you do that?” I stepped back a little afraid. He took a step towards me.

“Please do not be afraid. I am here to help you” he said slowly.

“You have helped me enough, I just want to go home now” I told him getting a little pissed that he wasn’t letting me pass. I was about to argue more but the pounding in my head turned into something much more. It was like my scull was being ripped apart. I screamed crumpling over to the floor. I felt Rowen’s cool hands grasp around my waist holding me up. I don’t know how I got there but the next moment I was laying down on the couch.

“Here drink this” Rowen handed me a glass of water.

“What is happening to me?” I demanded and another surge of pain split through my head causing me to drop the glass and scream again. Rowen put his cool hands on my forehead.

“Shhh, it will be okay, it will pass” he whispered, and then the pain faded, slowly, but still it lessened.

“Do you remember what happened to you?” he asked. I thought really hard.

“I was walking home from the party and then there was a man” I was thinking about the man hard, trying to remember the things he said. “Caleb, his name was Caleb. He bit me” I placed a hand on my throat and felt a bandage there. I shook my head I must be dead or dreaming because what Caleb had done to me, the way he looked, the things he said, it was like I was saying he was a vampire or some other demon. Which was outrageous! Vampires and demons don’t exist!

“This isn’t real” I said closing my eyes hoping I would wake up from this so real nightmare.

“But it is real” Rowen said, he was sitting on the arm of the chair again staring at me. My eyes widened.

“Are you… are you a vampire” I stuttered.

“No” he shook his head.

“But you live in the dark, you are very cold, and that thing you did by the door…” I was crazy. Then the thought occurred to me, if I actually had been bitten by a, I couldn’t bring myself to say the word again, did that mean that I was a…

“Am I a…” I looked at him wide eyed.

“No, you are still very much human”

“But not completely” I realized aloud, Rowen shook his head.

“No, not completely” he repeated, I stood up outraged a little, why was I letting him manipulate my mind like this. I knew there was no such thing as vampires, they aren’t real!

“Vampires aren’t real!” I shouted “What did you do to me?!” I put my hands on my head trying to get a grip on reality.

“Danielle, please sit down” he said placing a hand on my shoulder. I hardly knew this guy, but I felt some sort of attachment to him. I pulled away from his reach.

“I need to go home” I whined.

“You can’t, that is not your world anymore!” he said angrily
