“Landon” I whispered and I flung myself down to him. He groaned in pain, I immediately released him and pulled back.

“No, no please don’t move away from me. I feel like I haven’t seen you or touched you in ages.” He pleaded. I cuddled back down to him but more gently this time.

“You have been asleep for nearly 3 weeks.” I told him. “Do you… do you remember?” I asked leaning on my elbow. He closed his eyes and thought about the question before answering.

“There was an accident” his forehead wrinkled as he tried to recall what happened “Tyson and Tessa were there” he said, the mention of Tessa made me cringe. He felt it and opened is eyes. “What happened to them?” he asked.

“Tessa” I whispered softly.

“Is she okay?” I could feel his heart racing inside his chest. I shook my head clinging to him tighter. He closed is eyes tight fighting back tears.

“I’m so sorry Lacey” he apologized. I looked up at him astonished.

“You don’t need to apologize Landon if its anyone’s fault it’s the other driver. Jackass” I said the last part under my breath. He gave a small laugh then pulled me closer to him.

Landon stayed in the hospital for another week, but hating every second of it. Evan was brought to him and it was like his world was complete. No matter how much he loved me his love for Evan would always be more and I understood that; and my love for Landon was unconditional. I loved him with all my heart and those few weeks that he was gone were the most painful weeks of my life and they seemed to drag on and on. But he was back; and that is all the mattered to me.

“What are ya thinkin about?” he asked me one morning as we laid in bed as the sun raised higher in the sky.

“About how much I love you” I said honestly.

“Marry me” he stated more as a command rather then a question. I sat up looking at him like he was crazy.

“Landon you best be joking” I warned him. He smiled at me mockingly.

“I am 100% completely serious” he was still smile with didn’t quite have me convinced.

“Landon don’t be stupid” I told him.

“You think it is stupid to want to marry you?” he raised his eyebrow.

“No I think it is stupid that you want to get married now!”

“Who said anything about getting married now? Cause I sure as hell didn’t” he was still smiled which was a little irritating, but then I began to think. No matter how much he irritated or annoyed me I still loved him. I loved all his little imperfections.

“Someday?” I said.

“Someday” he stated.

“Daddy?” a small voice said from the door frame. Both Landon and I looked up as Evan tottered into the room.

“Hey buddy, come ‘ere” Landon said holding out an arm. Evan maneuvered onto the bed with a little help from his dad.

“Hi mama” Evan said looking at me. The smile on my face instantly faded. Mama? I sat up and looked at Evan who’s own smile faded as he realized he what he had just said. Landon looked at Evan too but stayed silent. I got out of the bed and stumbled out of the room.

“Lacey wait!” I heard Landon shout after me but he didn’t follow because Evan had begun to cry. I didn’t understand why hearing Evan call me mama upset me so much. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to be his mom figure it’s just that I will never be his mother. Admitting that bothered me a little. I to into my car and sat for a moment, I didn’t want to leave and even if I did I had left the keys inside. I just wanted to think. I jumped at the sound of someone knocking on my window.

“Lacey? Please open the door”
