Love Of A Lifetime *Chapter 59*
|
Everything from there went into hyper speed. I don’t even remember driving to the hospital I just know that then next think I knew I was bursting through the hospital doors and running towards Landon’s room. The first think I saw when I got to the hallway was Mrs. Perry on her knees crying out Landon’s name in front of his open door. Doctor’s and nurses were rushing in and out of the room. In that moment time seemed to slow down immensely. I became dizzy from the quick change in pace of the time. As soon as I reached Mrs. Perry I was on my knees at her side. She was reaching out towards the door of Landon’s room. The first think I saw was his monitor flat lining. All the noises around me became muted as I watched the doctor shout ‘Clear’ and put the paddles to Landon’s bare chest. His chest raised with the shock of the paddles causing me give a little jump too. But nothing changed on the monitor so the doctor began again I couldn’t watch this. I closed my eyes and held Mrs. Perry to my chest as she continued to reach for her son. And then like a miracle the heart monitor started to beep again; it was the first thing I heard and then all other noises followed. I looked up as the doctor wiped the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve.
“He is stable” he told the room. I felt my heart start to beat again as soon as he said those words. From that moment on I never left the hospital, I never left his side. Three days passed and there was still no change in him.
“Lacey?” Mrs. Perry said in a concerned voice.
“I’m not going anywhere, so please don’t even try” I said with sleepy eyes. Mrs. Perry nodded her head.
“Here.” She handed me a cup of coffee “I just though you might want this”
“Oh” I suddenly felt very bad for my outburst.
“It’s okay sweet” she said as I took the cup from her. “Are you going to stay here for awhile yet?”
“I am not leaving his side till he wakes up” I said through my teeth.
“So if I went home to shower you would stay here then?” she asked. “I don’t want to leave him either but the doctors are starting to look at me funny” she gave me a weak smile at her attempt at humor. I smiled back and nodded.
“Like I said I am not going to leave his side.” I repeated. As soon as she left the room I went over to Landon’s bed and laid down next to him feeling the warmth of his body warm mine. I must have fallen asleep.
“Lacey” a familiar voice whispered softly. I smiled to myself as Landon brushed my hair with his hand. “Lacey wake up” Landon said.
“I don’t want to, I don’t want to leave you” I said realizing that I was sleeping. I heard Landon’s sweet laugh.
“It’s time to wake up my sleeping beauty” I couldn’t see him but I knew he was smiling. I opened my eyes awaking from my sleep expecting to see Landon sleeping next to me but his I were open and he was looking at me smiling.
“Hi” was all he said.I sat straight up rubbing my eyes but when I reopened them he was still there. Tears immediately came to my eyes as a looked at him. I still half expected to wake up and find him still in a coma.
“You’re not real” I whispered to myself as silent tears streamed down my face. “I’m dreaming” Landon’s own eyes began to tear up as he took my hand and placed it on his face.
“You’re not dreaming, I’m real, I’m here”
