CHAPTER 15

I stood in the attic and I couldn’t help but get that agitated feeling at the pit of my stomach.  This was bringing back memories of my last adventure in an attic…  Levi’s face flashed through my mind and it sent a shiver up my spine.  I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down.  Remember, Levi is dead…  He can’t come back to hurt you anymore… I told myself.  “Where is that box?  I know it’s up here somewhere…” Emma exclaimed as she searched through the boxes scattered all over the floor.  I waited patiently for her to find the article of clothing and wondered what it looked like.  Emma had decided, since our announcement, to give me her wedding dress to wear.  I was surprised that she would do that, and I felt honored.  I just hope that the dress would fit and that it was beautiful…

“Here it is!” Emma exclaimed as she ripped open the box and pulled out its contents.  Sure enough, out came a long, white, flowing wedding dress with a corset bodice.  Emma put it up against herself to show me the dress from all angles.  It flowed out, but it didn’t flow out at the waist like many wedding dresses I had seen.  It gradually went out, giving it a nice shape, and a very elegant feel.  It really was a beautiful dress.  I touched the soft material and was relieved that it wasn’t itchy.  “It’s beautiful, Emma,” I replied as she handed me the dress.  I put it against myself and looked in the mirror next to me.  Emma smiled proudly at her dress.  “I’m so glad that you’re going to wear it… Well, I hope it fits.  You should go try it on,” she urged.  I nodded as we went down the stairs and I headed into the bathroom to try it on.

Emma waited for the verdict on the other side of the door.  As I looked at myself in the mirror, tiptoeing to get a better view because it wasn’t a full length mirror, I was beaming.  It was perfect.  Emma and I were about the same build and size, and it fit me just right.  I couldn’t believe it.  I loved this dress.  THIS was the dress I had been looking for since the beginning.  The one at the wedding shop was nice, but it just didn’t go with the picture I had in my head.   Emma’s wedding dress was just the wedding dress I had dreamed of…  I opened the door to give her the answer.  When she saw me, she got a tear in her eye.  I guess the hormones were acting up all ready…  “You… you look….”  Before she could finish, Roger and Burt walked by.  “You look like a marshmallow,” Burt stated.  “Can we put you on a stick and roast you over a fire for our smores?” Roger added.

Emma rolled her eyes.  “They’re just kidding, Katarina,” she assured me.  I nodded as I let out a giggle.  I knew they were kidding.  “You two are terrible,” I replied.  Roger and Burt began to laugh.  “But really… you look great,” Roger assured me.  Burt agreed.  “Of course she looks great.  It’s my wedding dress… and it fits her perfectly… It’s perfect,” Emma replied proudly.  “Now go change before Sam sees you; it’s bad luck, you know,” she added discreetly.  I nodded as I went back into the bathroom and changed.  When I emerged, I heard voices in the kitchen.  I entered to find Emma, Sam, and Burt at the kitchen table.  Sam turned to the noise to see me arrive and pulled out one of the chairs for me to sit down next to him.  He put his arm around me and relaxed his body a little bit towards me and continued his conversation.  “I feel just awful sitting around while all of you work,” he stated to Burt.  Burt shook his head.  “It’s understandable that you two are on the run, and you have no need to feel bad,” he assured Sam.  Emma agreed with him.  “Besides, you two are about to become husband and wife, and you don’t need to have money over your head,” she added.

I couldn’t believe how wonderful they all were.  Sam’s cousins were remarkable, and I just couldn’t believe our luck.  Our lives were like a see-saw.  We had good people, saviors, like Millie, Jack, Sonya, Burt, Roger, and Emma, but we had some bad guys who made up for all the good: Levi and Gabe.  They were hell themselves; literally…  As I tuned back into the conversation from my thoughts, I realized that it had changed.  “So when are you two planning on getting married?  Actually, the question should be, where?” Emma asked out of curiosity.  I turned to Sam and we both shrugged our shoulders.  We didn’t know Yorkshire very well, and we weren’t sure what church would be cheap but still elegant…  “We have no idea,” I replied.  And with that, everyone began to think of places.

I looked at all of their faces…  Burt had his hand to his chin and he was rubbing it, Emma was looking up in the air for the answer, and Sam had leaned against the table and rested his chin on his knuckles.   I had no idea, so I didn’t even bother to think.  Suddenly, it was as if Emma had had a light bulb go off in her brain.  “I’ve got it!” she burst.  We all turned and looked at her for her answer.  “Here,” she replied.  We all looked at her with confused looks on our faces.  “Here?” Burt asked.  Emma nodded.  “They can get married here.  I think it’s a marvelous idea, Burt,” she began, grabbing Burt’s hand in excitement.  “We can move furniture around and put flowers all around, some candles, we can rent some fold out chairs and make it all a very intimate and elegant feel,” she added.

I thought about it for a moment.  It wasn’t a bad idea…  In fact, it seemed to make the most sense.  We didn’t have much money for a big wedding, and this way, we wouldn’t have to pay for a church.  “I love it,” I replied, a smile escaping my lips.  We both glanced eagerly from Sam and Burt to gauge their reactions.  At first, they were both serious.  Then Sam’s face brightened and he smiled.  “You’re one smart cookie, Emma,” he replied as he pulled me close to him.  Burt’s face lightened and he smiled too.  “She is,” he added, assuring her that she had done a good thing.  “All we need to do is find a pastor to marry you two, and we’re good.  It can be a small ceremony,” he stated, making a mental list in his mind.  “I’m sure we can find a preacher by the end of the week,” Emma added.  I turned to Sam.  I didn’t think it was actually going to happen.  We were actually getting married?

“So soon?” Sam replied in astonishment.  Emma nodded.  “Of course!  I think it’s perfect!” she stated with glee.  “I think we should plan the wedding for next Sunday,” she added.  I turned to Sam for a response.  “Are we getting married next Sunday?” I asked, searching his face.  He smiled at me and kissed me on the forehead.  “I think so,” he replied.  Emma jumped up and let out a scream of glee.

“Psst,” I heard in a harsh whisper, as it jolted me out of sleep.  I was almost in a deep sleep, so I was about to attack whoever was waking me up in the middle of the night.  “Psst,” I heard it again.  I somehow managed to pull myself to sit up in bed as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes.  “Who is it?” I whispered back in an answer.  Slowly the door opened, with a low creek, and in walked Sam.  I rolled my eyes as I looked at the little clock on the nightstand.  It was 2:30 in the morning.  It was also our wedding day…  “What are you doing in here?” I asked in a whisper as he slowly closed the door, trying not to make any noise.  I had decided on having separate bedrooms because of the last fiasco we had sharing a comfortable bed.  Sam sat down at the edge of the bed next to me and I looked into his beautiful golden eyes.  I knew exactly why he was here; I could see the desire in his eyes, and I had seen it many times before.

“Sam,” I warned as I pulled the covers higher up around me.  Sam smiled as he leaned in closer.  “Yes?” he asked as if he was innocent of all crimes of passion racing through his brain.  “Don’t even think about it,” I warned him.  “You can wait until tonight…  We can’t…  And I know that there have been so many times before this that I almost gave in, but I’m glad we didn’t.  This will be special…  It will be wonderful, and we’ll be glad that we waited,” I added, searching his face.  I could see the disappointment as he still yearned for me.  I had a desire in the pit of my stomach, but I was trying to extinguish it until our wedding night…  And that night was almost here, if only Sam could wait.  “I know it will be wonderful, but… I want you now,” he replied as he leaned in closer and I could feel his hot breath on my face.  I felt my whole body tingle as the little hairs all over my body stood up.

“I know you want me too…  I don’t think I can wait anymore,” he added in a whisper that made his breath very heavy against me.  I struggled to think of something else as my eyelids slid down and I felt myself inch closer and closer to Sam.  “You are evil,” I whispered as Sam’s lips found mine.  I closed my eyes and felt energy rush through my entire body.  My heart began to beat faster as I slowly searched Sam’s body with my hands.  He only had on a wife-beater tank top and his boxer shorts, so I could feel most of his body without having to use my imagination.  His arms were very muscular, and I trailed the ridges with my finger tip slowly.  But I knew we were getting to the point of no return as he moved closer and closer and threw the sheets off of me.  I had to stop it before I regretted it, no matter how much I wanted to jump him and never look back.

“Sam,” I muttered through a gasp of air as Sam moved his lips to my neck.  I felt a struggle within me as I grabbed a fistful of Sam’s hair.  “Sam,” I muttered again through a moan.  “Goodnight, Sam” I replied, this time finding my voice to make myself heard.  Sam stopped and looked up at me.  He searched my face and suddenly got a conscience.  He let out a sigh and pulled away from me, only after lingering there for a few moments.  “Goodnight,” he replied as he got up and walked to the door.  “I love you, Samuel Livingston,” I assure him.  Sam smiled.  He leaned against the door and nodded.  “I love you too, Katarina Volstead, soon to be Katarina Livingston,” he replied.  I grinned widely at his words and felt pleasure in hearing them.  “Goodnight,” he added as he slowly opened the door and headed back to his room.  After I was sure he wasn’t coming back, I plopped my head back onto the soft pillow and let out a sigh for relief.  I closed my eyes and struggled not to have a sex dream about my fiancé…
