Saving Myself ch 8

You better believe that after Millie left Sam was sleeping on the floor! He grabbed some blankets and a pillow, and I grabbed a sweater to cover myself up. We had come extremely close to letting our inner desires take over us. But I knew I wouldn’t have been able to look at myself in the mirror if I had slept with Sam. As much as I loved him and wanted him, I had to keep my promise to my father. All I had left of him was that ring; it was as if he was always with me. I just couldn’t have sex with Sam; it would almost be a slap in the face. When the sun came out bright and early the next morning, I was awakened by a kiss on my nose. I slowly opened my eyes to see Sam hovering above me with a purple flower in his hand. “Where did you get that?” I inquired as I took the flower graciously. Sam smiled. “The forest has some amazing wild flowers. I decided to take a little walk this morning and saw this flower. I decided to bring it back to you,” he replied.
Sam seemed happier now. It was as if we had achieved finding a little bubble to live in where Gabe could never find us. I was relieved that he was doing better. He leaned down and kissed me as the butterflies emerged. I grabbed the back of his neck as he sat down on the edge of the bed and continued kissing me. His lips trailed down the nape of my neck as I breathed deeply in exhilaration. But if Sam didn’t stop soon, we would be in the same position we were last night. It was getting increasingly harder to lock my desires within. Sam realized my dilemma and slowly pulled away, breathing deeply onto my neck. “Breakfast is downstairs,” he muttered as he finally got off of the bed and walked towards the door. After I was dressed, I went downstairs and ate a wonderful breakfast of pancakes that Millie had so graciously prepared at 7 in the morning. She really was a saint.
“How did you two sleep?” Millie asked, all though I’m sure she imagined just how we slept… Sam and I looked at each other and smiled awkwardly. “We slept great,” Sam answered as he took a bite of his pancakes, drenched in syrup, just the way he liked it. “I see why you had this house built out here. It’s so secluded and the nature is just refreshing,” he added. Millie nodded. “My husband, Bill, had this house passed down to him from his father. His father built this place long ago because he loved to be alone. When he died, Bill got the house in the will, and we moved out here. It was the best decision we made. It’s so peaceful and quiet,” she mused as she took a sip of her tea. “I have to thank you again for letting us stay here, Millie,” I stated as I reached across the table and touched her hand.
After breakfast, Sam urged me to go on a walk with him on the trail he took that morning. I reluctantly agreed, even though I had all ready been on many of these trails. I had gotten lost in this forest once before… It still brought back some terrifying memories even though it was beautiful. We walked for some time in silence before Sam decided to speak. “So… what am I like in the future?” he questioned, turning to me as we turned down the path towards a beautiful pond filled with wildlife. I shrugged my shoulders. “You’re… different to say the least. You have this hardness about you that makes you look tough, and you make lots of decisions based off of nothing concrete… But you would do anything to keep me safe,” I replied as we stopped and I sat down on a rock.
Sam nodded his head as he turned towards the blue sky. “That’s one thing we both still have in common,” he muttered as he looked at me and gave me a wink. I breathed in deeply as I let the nature take over me. It was such a freeing feeling. I could just stay out there for hours… “What would you do if you lost me?” Sam suddenly asked, turning towards me with a meaningful look in his eyes. I didn’t like to think about that. I shook my head and suddenly became frustrated. “Why are you asking that?” I demanded, feeling the anger rise inside of me. “We don’t know for sure that I will survive this, Kat,” he exclaimed as he picked up a rock and skimmed it across the pond. I stood up and grabbed Sam’s hand. “Don’t talk like that. I can’t think that way. If I lost you, I would die. I just can’t live without you, Sam. Stop making me think that way,” I replied with hostility.
Sam sensed my frustration and realized he had gone too far. I could feel the lump rising in my throat as I struggled not to cry. I looked up into Sam’s golden eyes and it was almost unbearable. “I’m sorry, Kat… I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything,” he apologized as he pulled me into his arms and held me there for a few minutes. I closed my eyes and listened to the music of the birds and the nature call around me. I felt a little more at ease hearing Sam’s steady breathing and the stream of water nearby. I gripped Sam tighter as I put my nose on his chest and smelled his scent. “Do you want to go for a swim?” Sam suddenly asked as I pulled my face away from his chest to see his facial expression. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” I remarked. Sam shook his head as he let go of me. “It’s a beautiful day, and it’s really warm. That water would refresh us… You’ve never been skinny dipping?” he inquired giving me a playfully seductive look. I rolled my eyes at him.
“No, Sam Livingston, I have not been skinny dipping and I never will,” I replied as I turned away from him. “You don’t want to go in the water?” he asked, making a puppy face. I shook my head. “NO, SAM,” I warned him as I turned to go back and sit on the rock. Suddenly I felt myself being picked up as Sam came up behind me and grabbed me. “SAM! STOP IT!” I demanded as he marched over to the pond. I wriggled around, hoping Sam would put me down. When I saw that was no use, I decided there was no way he was throwing me in. I grabbed his neck tightly and didn’t let go. “Sam Livingston, put me down this instant,” I demanded through my teeth. I looked up at Sam to find him laughing as he entered the water fully-clothed. He continued to laugh as he struggled to get me off of him.
“This is not funny!” I yelled as I held onto him with all my might. When Sam realized I wasn’t letting go, he plunged in. As my body hit the water, there was a shock wave that ran through me from the cold feeling. It was refreshing… I was submerged and hit the bottom of the pond and quickly pushed myself back up. When I emerged, I immediately began hearing Sam’s laughter. I searched for him and found him a few feet away from me, so I splashed him. “You are evil, Sam Livingston,” I hissed as I struggled to wring my hair as the water traveled down my clothes. I began to walk out, but I felt Sam’s hand grab mine to stop me. “Come on, Kat. That was funny,” he replied. I wanted to be angry, but as I looked into those eyes, I just melted and laughed right along with him.
I slapped his arm in anger as he pulled me into his arms. “All right, Sam, let me go so I can get out and dry off,” I demanded as I pushed away from him. Sam rolled his eyes. As I walked out of the water, Sam splashed me. “You are going to get it,” I hissed as I turned sharply around and attacked him with all my might. I used my arms with full force to splash him as he shielded his eyes from the water. After he was distracted, I jumped onto him and forced him under the water. When we emerged, I was locked in his arms yet again, my lips nearly touching his. I was staring straight into his eyes as we were locked in a gaze. I melted under him and smiled as I reached my hand up to his water-drenched face. The drops slowly trailed down his face as they all collected at the tip of his nose and fell to the water to form ripples.
“I love you,” I whispered as I ran my fingers through his hair to drain the water. Sam smiled down at me as he pushed the hair that was sticking to my face. He rubbed my chin with his thumb while his other hand held me around my waist. “I love you too,” he replied as he leaned in and kissed me. Our wet bodies pressed up against each other as our stomachs touched. I held onto locks of Sam’s hair while he moved his hands to my back and rubbed me gently. I groaned softly at the pleasure of his touch. This was too much to handle! I didn’t think I could overcome the temptation for much longer. Sam briefly moved his lips away from mine and began to kiss my neck. I breathed heavily as my heart pounded faster, and faster. “Sam,” I whispered as I held his hair tighter. His hands trailed down to my legs and suddenly he pulled me up and wrapped them around his waist.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and looked down into his golden eyes, filled with desire. I felt the same desire rising inside of me, ripping me apart. I began to kiss Sam on the neck and hear his heavy breathing. As my lips arrived back to his, he pulled me closer and showed me how much he was yearning for me. I locked my legs around him as he moved his hands from my legs to the front of my pants. We briefly stopped kissing as he looked down at my body, drenched with water, and a see-through shirt. My heart pounded faster and faster as I suddenly felt it in my ears. Everything around us disappeared and I was lost in a world with Sam. I couldn’t take it anymore. I moved my hands down to Sam’s pants and took off his belt, throwing it onto the grass nearby.
Sam searched my face and I saw the surprise in his eyes. I told him I wanted this. I didn’t care anymore. Just as I was about to unbutton his pants, there was a deafening sound in the sky. We were brought out of our bubble to realize that the noise we had heard was thunder. The sky was no longer blue and cloudless; it was a dark grey, and it was beginning to drizzle. Sam carried me out of the water and put me down softly on the ground as he picked up his belt and put it back on. I drained the water from my clothes and hair and grabbed Sam’s hand as we headed back for the cottage. We had hoped that the rain wouldn’t start until we got inside, but about a mile away, it began pouring.
But it wasn’t a terrible thing. It was exhilarating to feel the rain on your skin as it beat down against you like a massage. Sam and I ran the rest of the way, laughing at the timing of Mother Nature. When we reached the house, we quickly got inside as the rain continued to worsen. As we entered the house, Millie was there to greet us. “I was wondering where you two were! It started to rain and I was getting worried!” She sweetly handed us towels to help us dry off and coaxed us into the living room. “We have a visitor who has been looking for you two,” she informed us as we entered. I turned to her in confusion. “A visitor?” I inquired. But before Millie could answer, I all ready knew. My eyes widened in horror as I stared into the eyes of the man I never wanted to see again; Gabe.
