Drop-Dead Gorgeous 2
|
Just to let you know, this is the sequel to my first story, Drop-Dead Gorgeous. It isn't going to be called Drop-Dead Gorgeous 2. It's going to be called "Saving Myself." This is just to let you know where this story is coming from so you're not confused.
CHAPTER 1
The last thing that I remember was seeing Kat’s face as I disappeared. I didn’t want to leave her; I didn’t want her to be alone… But I knew that soon there would be someone to take my place. Well, it was going to be…me. Suddenly I was in the middle of the road again, and there were other people nearby. I searched frantically for the one person I wanted to see. She has to be alive… I can’t save her now… My eyes scanned the street for her brown hair. I just couldn’t have failed… “Sam?” I heard her beautiful voice say. My heart began to pound as I turned to face the love of my life. I looked her over; there were no shards of glass in her arms or her forehead. In fact, she looked like the perfect picture of health. Of course, she looked a little older than I saw her last. Her hair was bit shorter than before, but she was still the same woman I had loved since the moment I met her.
I rushed to her side and pulled her into an embrace. “You’re alive,” I whispered as I held her close. I didn’t want to let her go; I just wanted her to stay in my arms forever. “Sam?” she questioned in confusion. Of course, this must have all been confusing to her. She had no idea what was going on. “Why wouldn’t I be alive?” she asked as I continued stroking her soft hair. I pulled my head back to see her face as I placed my hands on her soft, blushing cheeks. She was just so beautiful. It was such an exhilarating feeling knowing that I had done what I intended to do. “You are beautiful; you are drop-dead gorgeous, Kat,” I replied. Kat smiled as she smacked my arm playfully. “You’re silly,” she replied as she looked down at my shirt shyly. “You’re acting as if it’s been forever since we’ve seen each other. We were just inside Zelda’s two seconds ago,” she added looking back up at me.
I nodded, knowing that it didn’t matter what had happened a few minutes ago. It didn’t matter what I had gone through, just as long as she was alive and with me again. “I love you, Kat Volstead, and I cannot wait for you to become my wife,” I replied as I leaned in and kissed her passionately. I was just so overjoyed to see her smiling face; to see that she was all right… As I lightly pulled away, she shook her head at me. “I don’t know what’s gotten into you, but I like it,” she stated with a giggle. I smiled as I finally let her go and grabbed her hand in mine. “Can we get married right now?” I asked, suddenly feeling extremely impatient. Kat rolled her eyes as she slapped my arm. “You can wait another 24 hours, can’t you?” she asked. I shook my head. “No; I don’t want to wait that long. 24 hours feels like 24 years to me,” I replied.
Kat smiled one of her beautiful smiles and squeezed my hand. “You are the perfect man, Sam Livingston,” she stated sweetly. Right now, this moment was perfect. I knew I had made the right decision.
I looked through the photo album at the familiar faces smiling back at me through the pictures. I was sitting on the floor of my living room while the TV made pointless drone in the background. I smiled as I found a picture of Millie and I sipping tea at her cottage in the woods. She had lost so much since I met her… Jack… I still felt pain whenever I thought about him. He was like a brother to me. I continued to flip the pages to see Sam. I felt tingles all over my body as I thought about him. It was wonderful to know that I was going to live to see our wedding day this time. Well, he hadn’t actually proposed to me yet, but that was definitely in the near future. I had stopped working at Zelda’s for quite some time now. I somehow found the nerve to go on a real job interview with a real company; and they hired me. I was making good money, and Sam was working with a friend on their own business.
Who knew Sam could be so business like after the way he used to dress? Or is it, how he WILL dress? I looked up as there was a knock at the front door. I knew exactly who it had to be. It was my Sam… I quickly jumped off of the floor and rushed to open the door. Sure enough, there he was with those beautiful golden eyes staring at me. I smiled the biggest smile as I jumped into his arms. “I missed you,” I greeted as I smelled his wonderful, intoxicating scent. Sam laughed his husky laugh in my ear. “I saw you this morning,” he replied as I let him inside. I nodded as we headed into the living room and he sat down on the couch, staring down at the pictures. There were piles and piles of them all over the floor, surrounding one lone photo album. “What’s all this?” he asked out of curiosity as he picked up a few of the pictures and looked them over.
“Memories… Wonderful memories,” I answered as I took my spot and continued leafing through the pictures. Sam smiled. “Look; this one’s from the time we took that road trip to Florida. You’re making a face,” he replied as he began to laugh. I pulled the picture from his grasp and made the same face. “That’s because you wouldn’t let me change the radio station. All you wanted to listen to was that stupid country… You know I hate country,” I stated with a bit of hostility. Sam nodded as he leaned back on the couch. “I know; that’s why I wouldn’t let you change it. To be honest, I don’t like country. It was just hilarious to see you squirm,” he revealed. My eyes widened as I jumped up and attacked him on the sofa. I jumped on top of him and smacked him playfully. “You are so evil, Sam!” I yelled as he grabbed my arms and wouldn’t let me move.
“I am; but you love me anyways,” he countered as he managed to keep me still long enough to kiss me. I’ll admit; it did quiet me down. I leaned my head against his shoulder as he held me in the silence. This was nice… I loved being in Sam’s arms. It was the only place I ever wanted to be. Suddenly the front door opened and my wonderful mother entered. I quickly slid over onto the empty part of the couch. Sarah hated us displaying our love in front of her… “Mrs. Volstead,” Sam greeted as he stood up. Sarah walked past us into the kitchen with a bag of groceries. “Hello, Sam,” she greeted. Sam followed her into the kitchen. “How are you today?” Sarah shrugged her shoulders. “I’m fine; how are you?” she asked. Sam smiled. “I’m wonderful… Do you have any plans for tonight?” Sarah looked at him skeptically.
“Shouldn’t you be asking Kat that question?” she replied snidely. Sam had gotten used to Sarah’s tone. For some reason, she just didn’t seem to like this Sam as much as the other Sam… “I was wondering if you would like to join the both of us for dinner tonight at a lovely restaurant. My parents will be joining us, of course. It’s very important…” Sam explained as Sarah began to put away the groceries. “I don’t know,” she hesitated. Sarah always did this. She looked for ways to avoid spending time with us. I hated it… By this time, I had entered and was standing in the corner of the room, disappointed with my mother. “Mom,” I warned her. She let out a sigh and threw her hands up. “All right… I guess that would be all right,” she finally gave in. I rolled my eyes as I put my hand on Sam’s shoulder. “She would be delighted,” I translated for him as we exited the kitchen.
Sam shook his head in disappointment. “I just don’t understand her… She’s never liked me,” he stated sadly as he sat back down on the couch. I rubbed his shoulder to soothe him. “She likes you… At least, she will,” I replied. Sam rolled his eyes at my statement. “There you go again,” he stated in annoyance. Apparently because I had all of this information about my future, I loved to torture Sam with it. Ever since our first “date” at Zelda’s I had the upper hand in the knowledge of our relationship. And because it was growing nearer to June, I knew Sam was about to pop the question. “Stop saying stuff like that; I hate that you’re always right… You know everything before anyone else does,” he stated. I laughed as I put my head on his shoulder and put the photo album on my lap, flipping through the pages. “I told you; I’m psychic.”
